I guess I'm not missing out on anything?
Hell no.

Apocalyptic Raids 10-10-2005 10:42 PM

It was actually Marty who wanted them to go in that directions.
I hope you're joking. Even Megadeth fan boys can admit that Risk sucks. "Crush 'Em" and "Breadline" are awful as well as the other songs.
I'm a Megadeth fan boy and Risk is what got me into 'Deth. It's got a special place in my heart. :)

I'm a fanboy, and hell, I'll go so far as to say that anything released in between CTE and TSHF (with the possible exception of Hidden Treasures) should be hunted down to the last copy, and then burned to the ground

BTW, have any of you guys checked out the good news on Megadeth's homepage? :thumb:

Jev 10-11-2005 09:38 AM

I like Crush 'Em. Haven't got the rest of Risk though.

IAmAnAsshole 10-11-2005 10:19 AM

Yeah Risk is not the standard we are use to from the mighty 'deth but still....

Risk > Any other Metallica album post The Black Album

At least we can say that ;)

....btw great news that Megadeth is continuing.

Nah. I <3 Garage Inc.
Ummm.. No?!
Well i cant think of anything better that they have done post Black Album

I was never a huge Metallica fan though, apart from the whole of Kill 'Em All and a few songs off Justice....which happened to be the years Dave (wrote most of the stuff off Kill 'Em All) and Cliff were still in the band.
Nah. I <3 Garage Inc.
Garage Inc. is alright but theres a lot of 'meh' on it and Hetfields voice lost some of its edge IMO

Cliff was dead before Justice.
/probably already know.

Arise II 10-11-2005 10:47 AM

I think he was just talking about Kill 'Em All when he said that. But yeah, it was poorly phrased

Jev 10-11-2005 10:53 AM

It's weird how the Metallica thread turns into the Megadeth thread and vice versa at times.

You can't really prevent it either :P

Happy to hear Megadeth is still alive...
IMO Risk is an average album, it's just not as good as their other ones.

lightningmetal666 10-11-2005 11:54 AM

Good to hear that megadeth is still going on.

I'm still trying to get down Holy Wars on guitar. (that whole RIP guitar book scares me and I've been playing for over 3 years AND am a Music Major) It's getting to the point where I'll pick up my Master of Puppets book for a while because it's easier to play. LOL. I guess that's a testament to the awesomeness of Megadeth.

For those who have the book, don't even bother with trying to learn Poison was the Cure. I think it was a typo but it says to play 8th notes at 320 bpm. Sorry but I don't know ANYONE that can play that fast. (I mean marty is freakin' awesome, but I doubt even he can play that fast).

Jev 10-11-2005 11:55 AM

He obviously could. Check out Cacophony.

RustedPieces 10-11-2005 01:36 PM

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Posion Was The Cure is played at 280bpm.

8th notes at 320 isn't very fast, that's 16ths at 160. Even I can do that...

16ths at 320... I doubt Dave would be able to play it.

I just checked the book, it is 320.

Jev 10-12-2005 09:08 AM

I think Dave's pretty underestimated. I mean some of the stuff he sings and plays.

Themadhatter 10-12-2005 09:49 AM

Singing while playing Holy Wars is virtually impossible in my eyes. That's incredible.

fatbandit 10-12-2005 10:08 AM

Yeah. I've tried, and I'm only doing bass.

The rhythm on the 877087707810 and singing is like...

As well as quite a few other occassions.

:smash:

Lightning_Rider 10-12-2005 11:26 AM

I started learning Holy Wars too, it's probably gonna take me a few weeks till I can get the whole thing down well, depending on how much I practice it. So far it's pretty tough but achievable with enough practice. he 2nd part of the song with the string skipping I had a quick look at and it seemed pretty tough, I've never been good at string skipping at all though. :upset:

fatbandit 10-12-2005 11:41 AM

Meh, I learnt the bass part in an afternoon sometime.

The guitar is hard though, especially the lead parts.

The clean solo is pretty solid :/

:smash:

Chu 10-12-2005 11:47 AM

My brother apparantly knows a guy who can do the flamenco solo on a bass...
I have no way of finding out if this is true though...

Lightning_Rider 10-12-2005 11:51 AM

Well I've only been playing for about a year and two months so I'd say it's a challenging song for my level, but that's how you get better. :thumb:

fatbandit 10-12-2005 12:09 PM

haha, I have a 7 string bass, and I transposed the Spanish solo to a Bass tab on Guitar Pro.

I gave it a few looks and then it received a hearty '"Fuck that for a game of toy soldiers!".

How it can be achieved on a 4 string and sound good, I wouldn't know :/

Meh, there's nothing that incredibly difficult in that song.

Five Magics on the other hand...

Lightning_Rider 10-12-2005 01:52 PM

Heh... How long you guys been playing?

RustedPieces 10-12-2005 01:55 PM

In Hook In Mouth, Dave says "As long as theres a P.M.R.C." What's a P.M.R.C.?

MAthiAS 10-12-2005 02:03 PM

I think it was the corporation or whatever that was doing all the music censoring back in the day. Something to do with that at least.

I've been playing a long time. I only consider myself to have gotten serious about it in the last couple months, though I guess you could say I've been practicing regularly for 2+ years. I started guitar at age 6 though, I'm 15 now.

Chu 10-12-2005 02:09 PM

Bull**** you're only 15
