I have no idea what you guys are talking about when it comes to seeing maynard naked. I guess the US likes that kind of thing
|
There's a picture where Maynard is naked, but I think it's computer graphics and it's really hard to make out anyway. Does your version not have the picture where there are people sitting on a couch watching a person bend himself into a ball or whatever?
|
Nope. Never heard of that. When I'm sober I scan my album art and give you a gander, just so you can see the differences.
|
Oh ohk cause my cousins cd is different and I looked in the local cd shop and it was also different to mine
|
Yeah, I also seem to have the boring non-holographic version. Sucks living in the UK for this, I guess.
|

Thats what I have and usually what I keep as the album cover...It's actually quite interesting. When I first got it I must have looked at it (and all the other images) for hours, heh. |
Long time no post in the Tool thread.
If someone would post, updating me as to what's going on with the Tool cover tracks, I would appreciate it. I have started working long days, and then I have band practice at night, so, I haven't had much time to do Tool stuff... This weekend, I'm hitting the studio with my band, so I doubt I can do much...but don't think I've forgotten about our little project...I know there are still people waiting it out for more bass...I've not forgotten your requests, I've just been real busy
Kurrupt uploaded his guitar version of Part Of Me, which he also posted in the guitar forum (people criticised your tone ). Im still out the loop completely thanks to financial restraints. And Ken is still (hopefully) going to upload his drums soon. Not a lot in other words |
Hey guys, you know what tomorrow is?
It's the 4 year anniversary of the release of Lateralus. That'd be awesome if we got some type of info on the new album in honor of the day, but what do I know...Tool are weird. |

I usually don't like seeing naked men on my CD covers, but to each his own.
The eye is the best IMO. |
You know, in my opinion, and it's probably the same as a lot of other Tool fans, each one of their albums has been better than the last. To me, Lateralus is a brilliant, complete album, and I'm just wondering if Tool will be able to come up with an album even better than that. Anything they put out will be judged against Lateralus, and that's really a lot to live up to. Do you think they'll be able to make an album even better than Lateralus? I really hope so. I just can't wait to hear what they come up with next.
|
Madey is allowed to like naked men. And the JoZ is pretty ope......
..but anyway, most of the tool pictures are disturbing. Undertow being the worst. And Ænima ones were funny |
Lateralus was a very, very, very, very good album but I still think that it's brilliant. I still believe that Ænima is the best.
But to answer your question, Lateralus is definitely an album that Tool could improve on. I would say that Danny's work on that album was BRILLIANT but other than that, it was just an extremely good album. However, I have heard better.
Madey is allowed to like naked men. What would you consider a better album than that? BTW, AIC rocks. |
I think their next album will be very comparable, if not, the best. They have improved over all of their albums, although, I can't decide if I like Aenima(I really need to learn how to do the cool letter thing) or Lateralus better.
I see. What would you consider a better album than that?
BTW, AIC rocks.
Ænima Dirt OK Computer Mezzanine The Downward Spiral The Fragile DSOTM Some of these are better and some are equal, IMO |
See, I would disagree with you on every one of your album choices. I like all of those. In fact, I love Aenima, Dirt, and DSOTM, but I wouldn't say any of those are better than Lateralus. It's all about preference, obviously. To me, Aenima is a little too repetitive and a bit sloppy at times, and I just prefer the crisp sound of Lateralus. I happen to like the lyrics better, especially in songs like "The Grudge" and "Reflection", but I can easily understand why you would like Aenima better. I'm just obsessed over Lateralus, that's all. Hah, obsessions are healthy, right?
|
Well.. of course it's all preference. However, Lateralus is a lot more repetitive than Ænima, imo. Lateralus is more of a progressive album but Disposition, Reflection, and Triad are extremely repetitive. I think those three songs are mediocre as studio versions.
I think Lateralus is a better live album because they add so much in. The drum sequence in Triad and just the overall ambience was unparalleled. |
Actually, the thought that, instrumentally, Blackwater Park was a better album than was Lateralus. However, I'm not a big fan of growls.

I think repetition in Disposition, Reflection, and Triad is what makes them so great. It works to set a mood in there. Kind of like in Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V), the guitar solo before the singing starts, is very long, but it helps establish a mood to it and gives it a very satisfying feeling when it's finally done. To me, Disposition is an intro to Reflection in the same way that Parabol (which could also be considered repetitive) is an intro to Parabola. It works for me very much, I guess. |

They only split them to give each section its own title. Ænema was less repetitve in places as it was sepearated by filler tracks every other song, which gave it a more spaced out feel. |

I understand that, but when you think about it, there really isn't much to the songs. I know they're different types of songs but I like the other progressive stuff on the album like The Grudge and Lateralus because the songs change more, throw in twists, and have great endings. Disposition, Reflection, and Triad were all drawn out too long. They really should have just done live versions for those songs because the studio versions are too dull for Tool. |

I love the length of the songs, to me, like I said already, it really sets a mood for the song. It's just my opinion, and I'd imagine it would sound better live. |
Songs like 46 & 2 and Stinkfist aren't as good live, imo. I think that the longer songs with more ambience are much better live because they add so much more. Whereas with the radio-type songs like Stinkfist, the clarity and beat is a little off.
Instrumentals were meant to be live. |
Do the Black Mages tour at all?
Not any proper style tours. They've played shows across japan, and they'll be performing at the Final Fantasy concert in LA. I should start a petition to get them playing other countries. They would make a good festival addition. |

Not yet, though its probably the next progression from my mogwai obsession
Otherside of the country from me :'( BTW, AJG, how fast is your internet?
Good ol' broadband, though the exact speed im not sure on, as we've apparently been upgraded recently on our ISP. Then again, im not sure what it was before, though ill guess at 128 stuffs per whatevers (too tired to pretend to know what im on about :( ) |
Lateralus is a brilliant album, but I kinda feel it falls under its own weight sometimes. After the title track or maybe once Disposition has slowed my mood down I kinda feel like I need a break if I'm really focusing on the music, and i'm sure other people would fall before this point.
I do love the album as a whole, but it's a little too long, by say, 10 or 20 minutes, IMO. That's not to say it isn't an amazing, wonderful, life changing album. Because it has been all of those things, but it's certainly not perfection. I hope on their next release they could cut down (not necesserally out) some of the more unnecessary parts. Though I'm sure some people would disagree and say "every part is necessary for the perfection that is Lateralus!" I personally never really "got" Triad to the extent where some people say it's so awesome, though I really like Reflection and Disposition. Sure, Triad's tone is sweet, and it has some coll sounding bits, but it's just more or less a powerchord jamm, surely? |

Lateralus is definately not perfect, although like Aenima (can some remind of the alt key to do the AE logo) it does has it's moments (and songs) of brilliance. Hopefully, the next album will bring something to the Tool sound that we havent heard before, and it will become somthing we can all embrace and choose to love. Also, with the new opening page at toolband, does anyone know if the page on lachromenchy (majory sp?) still exists? and if so, how would I get back to it? |
I love Disposition and Triad, but I'm just not into Reflection (even though I listen to it every time). The only thing I really like about it is the tabla playing. Otherwise, it's a rather boring eleven minutes after the first couple of times you listen to it. My only real problem with Lateralus.
|
Triad bores me. I <3 disposition with a passion. The way the band gel in that song is just great. Reflection has some great moments but it is too lengthy imo. And triad, well yeah 'powechord jam' kinda sums it up, it's just bringing the album to a close really.
|
Æ = Alt + 0198
Triad is my least favorite of those three songs. I think Reflection is perfection (/lame rhyme) and Disposition is amazing. |
