thanks man :D

Jev 01-07-2006 10:56 AM

If it's not that try Stream Of Conciousness.

\m/-CHeV-\m/ 01-07-2006 11:04 AM

ghettoeddo 01-07-2006 02:45 PM

\m/-CHeV-\m/ 01-07-2006 02:50 PM

it goes:

Introduction (As I am), Full band (Honor thy father), Isolated drums, Audio Commentry, Endless Sacrifice, Honor they father, Stream of consciencness, In the name of God, and Endless Sacrifice.

\m/-CHeV-\m/ 01-07-2006 03:39 PM

Jev 01-07-2006 03:51 PM

Oh God I got that all wrong.

shamed-angel 01-07-2006 06:02 PM
I saw them both nights at the Hammmersmith Apollo in London.
It was the thing he plays right at the start of it, on his red pad thing. It lasts about 3 minutes on the album but it must have gone on for about 10 minutes live.
You were? So was I. That gig was the third best gig I've ever seen. Behind two other DT shows! :D

bwnstl 01-07-2006 06:08 PM
What's your playlist?

It would probably be better if we commented on yours then 20 people making lists.
Good idea.

Images & Words - either Metropolis Pt. 1 or Under a Glass Moon
Awake - Scarred
Falling Into Infinity - New Millennium or Lines in the Sand or Trial of Tears
Metropolis Pt. 2 - Fatal Tragedy or Beyond This Life or Dance of Eternity
6DOIT Disc 1 - The Glass Prison
6DOIT Disc 2 - either War Inside My Head + TTTSTA or just TTTSTA
Train of Thought - This Dying Soul
Octavarium - TROAE or Panic Attack

With the right (or rather wrong) combination of these songs it brings it to right around an hour and a half, which sucks because I need time for talking about the band too and probably station programming. What do you all think?

Mine would have to be.
When Dream And Day Unite: Status Seeker, YTSE Jam.
Images And Words: Learning to Live, Metropolis.
Awake: Voices, 6:00.
Change of Seasons
Scenes From a Memory: The whole record... :( Like in Roseland.
Six Degrees: The Glass Prison, Misunderstood, War Inside My Head
ToT: ITNOG, Endless Sacrifice
Octavarium: Panic Attack, Root Of All Evil, Octavarium, Sacrificed Sons.
I honestly would break down if I ever saw them playing a set resembling this.
I really like 8VM, it's one of my favourites, actually.

Not as much as SFAM or I&W, But I really do like it.
I'm going to have to agree with that. Except I would choose it over Awake.
8VM is amazing, and is like cross between I&W and the First Disc of SDOIT. Which to me, is pretty perfect. Except for an entire album sounding like SFAM again. Which would be amazing.

6DOIT Disc 1 - The Glass Prison

Picks bolded or italicized.

No, the point of this is that I'm doing an artist feature on DT for my college radio station. The time limit I have is an hour and a half, hence why I'm not playing CoS or 8VM. I made that post because those are the songs I'm thinking about playing and I was wanting some constructive input about what you all thought.

Deth-Thank you for your post, I appreciate it. I have to say I'm not a fan of Lifting Shadows Off a Dream and that as good as Endless Sacrifice is that I like the fast paced-ness of This Dying Soul. Thank you for your input though, I'm definitely taking it into consideration.

ValeOfShadows 01-07-2006 11:06 PM

I only just figured out that i love In The Name Of God.:p I never even noticed it before that. BTW does anyone think that the start of Octavarium(song) sounds a lot like Pink Floyd for the first 3 mins or so.

Bryan Blakey 01-08-2006 02:24 AM

Hey, I'm starting to get into Dream Theater, and I was wondering what you guys thought would be a good album to start with. I have an iTunes gift certificate so I'm probably going to buy one of their albums from there.

edit:
ok, basically off itunes I can buy three of their albums:
Live at Budokan
Train of Thought
Octavarium

I can also buy Metropolis, Once in a Livetime, or Awake, but those three are only "partial" albums so I can only buy the songs individually and not all the songs are available, so I'd rather not go that direction. So out of the first three mentioned, which is probably the best?

ValeOfShadows 01-08-2006 02:57 AM

i personally like Octavarium more than ToT. But Train Of Thought has great songs like Stream Of Conciousness. But id go for live at Budokan. It has songs from both albums. And songs that aren't from either so it gives you a feel for the band. And its live!

I would go with Octavarium, the first one I bought, and I loved it. I still love it, I probably am going to listen to a few songs from it tonight. Amazing album in my opinion.

DimebagDarrell 01-08-2006 05:44 AM

Cant go wrong with Train of Thought if you ask me, also Metropolis II: Scences from a memory should be checked out

shamed-angel 01-08-2006 05:47 AM
Cant go wrong with Train of Thought if you ask me, also Metropolis II: Scences from a memory should be checked out
That's to be expected from someone who has dimebag as their username, ToT is by far their darkest, heaviest album. However, that isn't what DT is about to me. I think anyone new should check out Awake or I&W to see what DT really is about.

GenuineImitation 01-08-2006 09:26 AM

I would get Budokon. It has both stuff from ToT and 6DOIT, as well as the awsome Instrumedley and a few songs from other cds (Pull Me Under).

thats what i'll say too. you get a variety of DT with Budokan. you get heavy DT (ToT stuff), mellow DT (Solitary Shell), instrumental-awesomeness DT (instrumedly, SOC), and classic DT (pull me under).

GenuineImitation 01-08-2006 09:33 AM

Budokon may be slightly more money, but its definetly worth it.

i have images and words and awake and personally im not a massive fan of I & W i much prefer ToT but yeah your right its down to my fav style of music, still waiting to hear the new one octarivium if its spelt like that though.

Lord Abortion 01-08-2006 12:27 PM

Budokan blew my balls off.

Solitary shell is absoutely incredible, the second disk of 6DOIT Has barely been out of my ears since.
Goodnight kiss and the war inside my head are brilliant too.

Hollow years is a surprisingly great track, I should listen to FII more often.

I'm getting the CD now.

scenesfromatheater 01-08-2006 12:31 PM
I should listen to FII more often.
Too right. Live at the Marquee has been in my CD player for about a week now. Labrie's vocals are absolutly incredible.

Lord Abortion 01-08-2006 12:51 PM

New thing:
If DT did a set with two tracks from every album, what would you want?
WDADU-The killing hand/ Fortune in lies
Images and words- Surrounded/metropolis
Awake- Space dye vest/ The silent man
ACOS-title track/ perfect strangers
FII-Hollow years/ take away my pain
SFAM: the spirit carries on/ beyond this life
SDOIT:Disk 1- the glass prison/misunderstood
disk 2-Goodnight kiss/ solitary shell
TOT-In the name of God/Endless sacrifice
8VM-These walls/the answer lies within

Encore:
wait for sleep/Learning to live
This dying soul
octavarium

Bryan Blakey 01-08-2006 12:52 PM
Budokon may be slightly more money, but its definetly worth it.
Yeah Budokon is $15.99 while the others are $9.90, but I'm going to go with that one because it seems like it gives me the best mix of their different styles, which is what I'm looking for since it'll be my first DT album.

Thanks everybody.

I'd definitly agree, Dream Theater with the prog elements overpowered by the metal elements is bad as far as I care.

In response to Lord Abortions thing:

WDADU: Status Seeker/YTSE Jam
Images and Words: Metropolis/Under A Glass Moon
Awake: Erotomania/Space Dye Vest
FII: New Mellenium/Hells Kitchen
Scenes: The Spirit Carries On/Dance of Eternity
6DOIT Disk 1: The Glass Prison/Disapear
6DOIT Disk 2: Sollitary Shell/Goodnight Kiss
ToT: Endless Sacrifice/In the Name of God

Encore:
Finally Free
Learning To Live
A Change of Seasons

Lord Abortion 01-08-2006 12:56 PM

I was really put off by the setlist for Budokan when I first saw it. How wrong I was

temporary 01-08-2006 01:02 PM
I was really put off by the setlist for Budokan when I first saw it. How wrong I was
So was I, because I just saw that all the classics from Images and Words and Awake were not on it.
