I think our live debut at a proper gig (as opposed to a house party which we did earlier in the year) should be well-polished and more likely to be enjoyed and appreciated by the crowd.
Don't play it. I was in a very similar situation as you. We decided to go through with it though. We ended up sucking hard. Be as polished as you can in all cases.

We did great at that house party though. I got $50 :D

It depends on what songs you're playing though, and how good your band mates are, and how familiar you are with the songs.. Vince was playing Ramones and what not, and everyone in the band was very familiar with the music, even though they hadn't played together.

My band was doing harder stuff to play, and our drummer is pretty bad. It depends.
No!

Don't learn guitar, learn drums. Or bass. Guitar = everyone plays.
I'd love to play drums, but I have no where to put them, and I doubt I could afford them. For now,I'm learning guitar, and then later on I could always learn drums I guess.
Good ranting++, sir. That's the way to handle maverick guitarists.

(edit - to cobert)

I had an hour long MSN argument with my bassist about whether we should play this gig we've been offered on Thursday. The situation is this: We have 2 fully written songs, one of which could use a bit of polishing and tightening (these are the two on the recording). Then there's another song which is still an acoustic demo, and has promise but will need work to become a full song. Then there's two covers, both of which we all know but neither of which we've played together since about March. To top it off, we can only practice on Wednesday evening and Thursday before the gig. My bassist thinks that's plenty of time and we should definitely play whatever, whereas I think we'll have to rush and end up really sloppy. I think our live debut at a proper gig (as opposed to a house party which we did earlier in the year) should be well-polished and more likely to be enjoyed and appreciated by the crowd.
With how much ranting i do, i have to be getting good at it. :p

Actually, maybe you should play the gig, but just practice ALOT on wednesday. You dont know when youll get another live show again.
James: I'd say go for it. My band got together two weeks before our first gig and we were well received.
Well we had our first ever practice 6 days before our first gig. Although, that was a house party and we only did covers. This is a real gig, with PA and a sound desk and paying punters, and we're playing originals. I wanna make sure we can do a bit better than bosh through a few Green Day covers!

I just spoke to my drummer on the phone and we're gonna have a practice on Wednesday and see if we think we can do it. Thankfully we don't have to commit to anything at all as I know the guy who's running the event. He says he'll keep us a slot if we want it, but it's fine if we decide not to play.

Actually I'd never heard half the songs we played before we learned them. But I'm just that good

Eh, yeah. But if you want in a band, trust me...guitar is not the way to go. Unless you get to know drummers/bassists.

DepthsOfDreams555 11-14-2005 06:03 PM

I got three cavaties filled at the dentist today and my mouth feels huge right now.

These were my first ones on my permanent teeth it didnt really hurt that bad the numbing stuff only kinda pinched and the drilling only hurt for a bit on my top teeth.

HomeCatMickey8 11-14-2005 06:13 PM

I got my fist cavity after a year of absolutly no calcium... Or at least I'm guessing that was the problem because I was brushing my teeth a lot more than I did before.

Yeah but like, this was my first one ever. I take good care of my teeth. The only reason i got one was because my teeth are in a wierd position that makes flossing hard in the place where i got it.

DepthsOfDreams555 11-14-2005 06:15 PM

I hate cleaning my teeth like brushing is ok and usually flossing but now my dentist is like you need to do this flouride rinse and crap too. Its a pain in the butt.

cobert 11-14-2005 06:18 PM

I mightve rinsed my mouth wtith fluoride twice in my entire life.

Permanent Solution 11-14-2005 06:26 PM

I don't brush my teeth to spite the dentists.

B 11-14-2005 06:27 PM

I've never had a cavity. Or braces, or any other teeth problem :)

HomeCatMickey8 11-14-2005 06:27 PM

My dentist gives me free teethpaste, so therefore he's pretty cool and I will never spite him.

Go, it's gonna be a good show. I've been downloading some Circle Takes the Square and I like it. I bet they put on a great show, but of course not as good as Thursday. I'm so pumped for that and it's still over a month away.

BTW, Thursday is due for a new CD, anyone hear anything about it?

Fish 11-14-2005 06:31 PM

wait, you like mewithoutyou? or do you just like watching the guy dance around stage shouting into a mic and then randomly playing an accordian

cobert 11-14-2005 06:32 PM
