We seriously need to switch to metric everything.
Metric is for wimps who don't know how to actually measure stuff. It's miles, not kilometers you assholes. |
So i played half a game of 5 person risk today.
I have south america, one guy has africa (border alliance with me), 2 people are fighting over europe (never good for the african player, he has to catch the refugees from the loser), some kid with a big wandering army just took australia. I dont know when were picking it back up and playing again. |
Ugh, Australia. The hardly-spoken-of stepchild of Risk.
In all the times I've played that game, I dont think I've ever made a conscious attempt to take Australia. It's a dead end, only one way in or out. |
Austrailia helps if you can fortify most of it at the beginning...its when you try to take it later that it ****s you.
I have the most trouble in the Americas. I wanna play risk with competent people :( |
I'm 5-0 in my Risk career. Undefeated bia. Like Rocky fucking Marciano.
Australia is just too easy to conquer and lose again. If someone really wants it, there's really no stopping them from taking it from you. I've only really made a play for Australia once. I was trying to take Asia, and I had a pretty strong hold in Africa. I came through the Middle East and took all of southern Asia (Afghanistan, India, Siam). I eventually used Australia as a base to take China. Other than that though, I usually just let the other players control it, then I conquer it to win the game. |
As soon as somebody takes australia I make it my job to get him out. Have some guy fester there and just placing those 2 extra armies on siam every turn is really a bitch later on.
Heres the situation: Green almost had europe, but didnt want to take iceland (grey held) to relase the big grey army in greenland. The grey army fortified into iceland and then green pulled out of western europe (he had a border with africa betweenthe continents, africas only weak spot being middle east), and now the blue player in africa has to try and protect 3 territories now instead of just the middle east. I now have to protect brazil too, I dont want grey getting any ideas of fuxin up my continent. Im moving nicely into north america, im kind of waiting to make sure that grey is all the way into europe before I move in. I dont want him changing his mind and having to go through a major war. |
See what I mean, the Americas are a sunuvabitch. Its all or nothing over there...over here...whatever.

As soon as somebody holds asia, nobody else lets them. The only way its possible in our games to take asia is if its the end of the game and you have either 2 strong players left, or one strong player wiping everyone else out. |

Having a solid hold on one of them though is great. South America is easy to take and protect, north america is kind of hard to get a hold on, but when you do, you only have those 3 border to keep an eye on. |
They're nice to have, but they're hard to hold.
Greenland is a nice pinch spot to fight another player, the only problem being there are three entrances into Canada from Greenland. I usually make a point of taking Greenland, and Iceland if I can, early in the game, then taking North America. With South America only giving you three bonus armies, I don't usually make it a priority to own. I do try and take Brazil though, since it's a nice backdoor into the eastern hemisphere. Take it, then Africa, move through the Middle East and bam you're looking good. I seem to always have bad luck with South America, anyways. I dont know what it is, but as soon as I get a foothold, I start rolling 1's and 2's, every single time. God doesn't want me to own South America, I guess. |
Thats why I hate N. America and Asia (and Europe to an extent, but I've never had lots of trouble there for whatever reason)...theres to many areas to defend.
I just get speedblitzed from all sides and always end up running home with my thumb up my ***. |
dropping in to say im not dead and risk is sweet

If a better opportunity arises ill take it, but I had a bad setup this game and nobody else was going for it, so I started placing armies there. I have really bad luck with europe and africa though. LIke I said is happening now, the player that loses in either africa or europe ends up trying to work into a crack in the other continent. |

I always seem to have good luck with Africa and Asia, which is nice because they're huge continents with nice bonuses.
And Risk is probably the only board game I've played in the last 10 years that I actually want to play a lot. |
does anyone here play videogames? Non-Guitar Hero video games really.
|
I play a lot of Risk and all of the versions of Axis and Allies that I have (revised, europe, D-day).
Id like to buy a few more strategy board games like A&A sometime. |

Oh no, no time for that.

i enjoy football games
soccer ones are fun all the time
fix'd |
nah some are just too poorly designed to be fun for more than a few minutes
fifa ones are fun though |
Football > Pro Wrestling > Hockey > Basketball > Baseball > Soccer
games that is...acutally, the sports themselves too |
why did they close my thread
i am angry |
I really only play sports games. I've got both of the 2007 hockey games, MLB 2006, NBA Live 2006, and FIFA 2006. I'm not real big on NFL video games because they kind of suck. Yes, even Madden.
Silent Hill is about the only non-sport game I play. |
Dude, if you don' tlike Madden its just because you suck at it.
I bet I could horse whip everyone on this board at Madden. |
(not that you sucking at Madden makes me love you any less)
(You not liking the Matches kinda does though) |
the matches are fun
