Dated drum sounds? Gadd knows all about that ;)

the_pure_drummer 02-18-2007 03:19 PM

your doing it again The_noob_drummer

Gary Lover 02-18-2007 03:24 PM

Hmm... I didn't know Vinnie did GRP stuff. I would have to liked to see him with the GRP Big Band or whatever Weckl played in, though. This has a little too much cheese factor for me.

You on the other hand are just knitpicking.

Undisco Kidd 02-18-2007 03:25 PM

I hate Gordon Goodwin so much.

Yeah, I admit I am really not a big fan of most big bands because they tend to bring the cheese. There is very little I can latch onto big band wise... I love Ellington, though.

Everyone in our highschool's jazz band is like 'OMFG GORDON GOODWIN' and yet none of them have any knowledge of jazz that isn't stuff that the director picks out for them.

The lead trumpet in our top jazz band doesn't know who Miles Davis is.

raz0r 02-18-2007 03:29 PM

I got back from snowboarding today.

I'm exhausted, but man, there was some awesome powder on tuesday.

Jezen 02-18-2007 03:29 PM

My concert went well btw, in case anyone cared. :)

That is very, very sad. The modern state of jazz is a shambles, in my opinion. It has turned to mindless acedamia. I think the "soul" is gone.

British Boy - Glad to hear it went well! What did you guys perform?

Gary :thumb:

Undisco Kidd 02-18-2007 03:35 PM

Yeah, highschool jazz bands are kind of based on who has the best chops, etc.

I quit (was in the lowest one) after getting sick of all the pointless competition.

There is no music to it.

Jezen 02-18-2007 03:37 PM

Oh god I doubt I can remember the setlist off the top of my head..

Sundance
Prelude from 49th Parallel
Jupiter (Bringer of Jollity)
Time Remembered
A Lindisfarne Rhapsody
Prelude to Sinfonietta
Sarabande & Polka
Chips in a Bag

I'm sure I missed a couple there. For "A Lindisfarne Rhapsody", we had Juliette Bausor on flute, who is Northern Sinfonia's principle flautist. She was incredible!

Cool, I love Holst! I played "The Hammersmith" by him this summer and then started checking out his other stuff.

I cannot WAIT to go to college.

I can't wear like 1/2 my clothes to high school because of dress code.

Jezen 02-18-2007 04:18 PM

I feel as though I should dress as a whore for college.

When the rule on bottoms is fingertips, and your arms and fingers are stupidly long [much longer than everybody elses], and you're not fat enough to buy skirts that meet said requirement without them falling off your body, it kind of blows.

And when you get detention because your shirt rides up a little and the world gets a flash o' some stomach skin, that kind of blows too.

And the insanely thin skin everybody has there. All offended, all the time.

I could go on, but I won't.

Berk 02-18-2007 04:22 PM

Just got back from snowmobiling.

Me and my dad went on this 4 hour run.

It was intense
