Matt Freeman is an awesome bassist but I don't like Maxwell Murder. His simpler basslines (like Journey to the End of the East Bay) all sound a lot cooler, something isn't better because it's harder to play. This isn't metal.
I love playing Journey to the end of the east bay. It's one of the songs that when I pick up a bass, I just start playing it.

But Maxwell Murder is a challenge that I have to attempt every once and awhile. That solo haunts me.

Skidmark Steve 03-15-2006 04:16 PM

Journey to the End of East Bay is my favorite song to play on bass.

asdf 03-15-2006 04:18 PM

My favorite song to play is probably Peaches En Regalia by Frank Zappa. I don't know all of it, but it's so fun. It's the most challenging song I know.

AIRIC 03-15-2006 04:18 PM

Okay Rancid's cover of Moron Brothers if awful. His voice is so bad.

So I just got done coloring in a Joe and Monkey strip

I also cropped it for my avatar, but I think it's too wide.

All this talk about Matt Freeman is reminding me of why I first heard Rancid. Some kid from school back in 8th grade was telling me how his friend was learning to play Ruby Soho on bass. I thought his friend wasn't very good, and I had heard that Rancid's bassist was good, so I decided to take that as a reason to learn the song. I couldn't let this dumbass from school be better than me. I learned it, and then learned a few other songs.

Later on (like a year later) the bassist kid shows up at my house. He's never heard me play bass, and asks me to play for him. So I instantly start playing Ruby Soho. He was so impressed and goes "Man, I'm not nearly that good." It was obvious he had never even tried to learn the song, and I learned it all for nothing.

Cool. You should put a picture in the background.

Brain Toad 03-15-2006 04:52 PM

I liked Rancid for a day. I heard the song that was on Give Em the Boot III, liked it for a day, then I went back and listened again and couldn't stand Tim's voice at all. I tried to listen to them again, especially ...And Out Come the Wolves and still thought they sucked. Only song that I like is Journey to the End of the East Bay.

Rise Me Up 03-15-2006 04:52 PM

Haha, nice. The first song by them I learned was Tropical London, I think. It wasn't the first one I'd heard by far though.

Brain Toad 03-15-2006 04:53 PM
Cool. You should put a picture in the background.
That'd take a bit of work, but I could try.

Danger Bird 03-15-2006 04:54 PM

I like HR's voice.

Nerdcore753 03-15-2006 04:56 PM
I like HR's voice.
Me too. It's weird how different he can sound on some songs/albums.

Sweet.

AIRIC 03-15-2006 05:47 PM

Nick you just like that song because it's about East Bay.

Skidmark Steve 03-15-2006 05:56 PM

We should change the Community Thread name to "Oh! Community Thread, Oh!" - Like in Office Space

"I'll show her my Oh face"
"Oh! Oh! Oh!"

Brain Toad 03-15-2006 05:58 PM
Nick you just like that song because it's about East Bay.
That and it's about Op Ivy

Liebensaft 03-15-2006 06:18 PM

Nice coloring job.
Where in the Bay Area do you live?

Nice to see some fellow Bay Aryans on here, even if they do like the Sux Pistols (lol clever)
Again, ouch. I live in San Mateo.

And I like The NoFX/Rancid split. I actually like Tim's voice. Hmm.

Liebensaft 03-15-2006 07:23 PM

It's Bizarro Nick! The exact opposite! Except for the place of residence...

Brain Toad 03-15-2006 07:27 PM

San Mateo is gay :p

Except they have a really cool fairgrounds that holds one of the greatest antique shows, mainly because the music room has some cool record guys.

ViciousLove 03-15-2006 07:30 PM

I didn't know I lived in a town that had a sexual preference, haha. ;)
But yeah, it's pretty boring here.

Brain Toad 03-15-2006 07:32 PM

San Francisco obviously has a sexual preference :naughty:

I just added you on MySpace just because you're a Bay Aryan.

ViciousLove 03-15-2006 07:33 PM

Okay cool. I accepted.

What am I even supposed to think of you now?

Vismund Cygnus 03-15-2006 08:19 PM

I just saw GBH last night, my first real punk show.

by far the most fun I've ever had in one night

DaveToopes 03-15-2006 08:21 PM

Awesome. I don't listen to street punk much but when I do, GBH is a favorite.

Rise Me Up 03-15-2006 08:22 PM

Yeah, I bet that'd be an exciting show.

Ghostfire3 03-15-2006 08:37 PM

But, I like Office Space too... :upset: It's funny.

Anarcho Poser 03-15-2006 10:12 PM

About half my school went to a Fall Out Boy concert tonight. A couple of them went so far as to make shirts to wear there. I giggled at them, and proceeded to be punxrawkanarkee elsewhere.

I can play that on guitar. Not all of what I can play are guitar parts though I don't think.
