my ultimate goal would be to have a record company that made enough cash that i could buy a venue and have gigs and a small record store in it.
wont happen though |
If you really wanna do it the best bet is to raise the capital through regular employment.

Haha nice. :chug: |
u in Syd big80s?
Evan [big80s] and I both live in Wollongong.
Hi Streetlightrock. You are familiar from somewhere. Possibly another thread.
Yea I'm new to these parts.
But yea, just about big80s record company dream , was gonna say Australia's undergounrnd music scene is top class, but apart from the Modular bands (Presets, Cut Copy, Van She, etc), there's like no publicity for them. Wish someone would start something that would get them all known. |
I don't think record companys have much place in the future of music.
It's a band's own responsibility to get themselves known, the only other piece of the puzzle should be distribution of their product, I'm getting in on some of that action this year. |
Oh, what u gonna be doing?
yeah i know. i just wanna own a venue tbh. There arent any good ones in wollongong that i know of which is a shame cause theres heaps of bands here
Running an online mail-order store for independent musicians/bands/artists in the Sydney region and eventually further afield :). I'll sell my own projects through it as well.

Nice! Dunno about you saying there's no place for record labels tho... they still absolutely rule the airwaves.
There arent any good ones in wollongong that i know of which is a shame cause theres heaps of bands here
Lol, it's strange that they all go to Wollongong, of all places. |
Yeah, true that, but noone serious about discovering good music would look for it on commercial radio anyway.
theyre FROM wollongong. i meant there are plenty of local bands but not much venues, that im aware of, for them to play
Oooh. Go for it man, a well run music venue always, always kicks ***. Dunno any bands from that scene tho.
Evan, work enough so you have money to buy a pub then convert the pub to a music venue
I know of like two venues in Wollongong. Oxford tavern and the uni venue, that's it.
uni bar is a joke. No self respecting band would play there, its for shitty cover bands. i dunno where oxford tavern is. I would love to run a pub/music venue. Something like the metro but smaller and with a bar downstairs i could open to keep some money flowing in
Everyone plays a crap venue sooner or later, just how it goes.
no but seriously ive only ever seen or heard of coverbands and terrible pop bands playing there. Nothing with any artistic merit.
Id love to run a pub though. I should take a hotel management course or something |
Do it Evan. I can see you as a publican.
i can see me as one too. givin bitches free drinks. only hot bitches but cause dem fat bitches take too much to get drunk
dang got out of work at about half past one

same place i always worked :/
