Its like, if i took a sledgehammer to a thick slab of concrete and a thin sheet of rubber.
Which would break? |
rubber? well....
the concrete would chip and crumble thats for sure :P |
Is the bottom hat of the sabian aax stage hats crimpled up? I havent been able to try out/see a lot of cymbals, i just tried my friends zildjian avedis hats that had the crimp in the bottom hats and they sound amazing, bright and sizzly, but i like sabian and i wanted to find a hat that has that sound in a sabian name.
|
Nope.
Those Zildjians are A Custom Mastersounds, probably. |
You can get Avedis mastersounds too.
I think AAXcellerators have the crimp. |
Yeah, Xcellerators have the crimp along with something else, i forget what though.
|
The AAxcellerators have the crimp, and I think the fast hats have the holes in the bottom hat.

Paiste Sound Edges. |
No, i was talking Sabian.
Also zildjian mastersounds if you want to get into it. |
i think those are the only things in Sabian with the ripple bottoms.
well there are AAX and HHX, if that is what you mean. |
A custom mastersounds are amazing. Search through the forums for a review of them, I posted one a while back :)
|
now that the HHX-cellerators are out (well, news to me) i'm gonna have to track down a pair and give em a shot.

I fell in love with HH bright hats...they're just so incredible sounding! I still can't get over how much I love them. Now all I need is like 300 dollars...
Anyone have experience with an HH medium ride? |
I've used the K A and A Custom MAstersouds, the sound edges too! They're a lovely!!!

My cymbal setup is as follows:
Zildjian 13" K hats Zildjian 16" A crash Zildjian 20" K ride Turkish 22" Classic Jazz ride It's a lovely combo at present, but I want to expand. I'm primarily searching for something of a bridge between the brighter A and the darker K/jazz sounds, though I love quirky cymbals that might seem out of place but end up working well... any ideas? I feel like another, bigger crash (17-19") would make a good addition, but my concern is that the rides are quite dominating as it is. As such, I would also appreciate advice with regards to using a smaller crash (around 14-15") as well as any input into which may work better. |

You might like an A fast Crash?
14 or 15. Those Azuka Hand and Stick's are 15, it's pretty bright, maybe too bright. |

I'm apprehensive about buying chinas. Don't they break fairly easily? Not that it doesn't look like EXACTLY what I'm after. I've never broken/cracked a cymbal before, but it remains a concern as I slice fairly hard at times. |
No more than other cymbals.

I've never broken/cracked a cymbal before, but it remains a concern as I slice fairly hard at times.[/QUOTE] If you put them upside down they're a lot easier to hit IMO and so less likely to break. But yeah, what phil said. Also, it depends a lot on the specific cymbal, how you hit them, etc. A good bigger crash might be a 19" A as the larger sizes are darker... or perhaps a K dark crash medium thin, I love those cymbals though i think they only go up to 18" but you can check that. |
im looking for a great 18-20 inch ride cymbal thats around 200 bucks. any suggestions?

Erm anything more specific? What sort of sound: bands/drummers you think have a good ride cymbal? Wet (i.e. lots of wash compared to stick definition) or dry (the opposite)? Bright (lots of high end frequencies) or dark/warm (more mids and lows)? What sort of music do you play? etc Then I will do my best to help :thumb: |
well i like radioheads ride cymbal, thats all i can think of right now, but im into music from like glassjaw, the receiving end of sirens, to like muse and radiohead, stuff like that. i dont want anything real old, and i want it to have a light pretty sound, but also something i can hit hard and can sound loud and rock when it needs too. that help?
|
Hmm, not really,. I know something that fits that light sound be projecting when layed into, but it's about twice the amount you want to pay; 24" K Light Ride is amazing!
|
get two rides?
