Yeh but you know what i mean. Did DT do a cover of Aces High?

Deth 01-05-2006 06:52 AM

Not that I know of.

-HellsKitchen- 01-05-2006 08:40 AM

Has anyone heard any word on drummavarium?? I'm sure it would be good but just wondering if anyone has picked it up yet. And also i was wondering about the new DVD i thought they were releasing? but maybe not, my friend coulda been full of ****.

shamed-angel 01-05-2006 09:08 AM
i prefer DT songs that sound good to me in the overall context of the song rather than heavy, fast, and metal-ly. i believe DT to be so much more than just a progressive metal band. there are some who like DT for the metal stuff, but i like DT for DT. ToT is awesome yea, and i do like this dying soul, but that solo at the end...totally unnecessary i think. but the opening to the song is cream-worthy. myung does some weird string-pulling thing there. not a bassist, wouldn't know...

is ur user name a reference to FF8? (off-topic) and i watched that solo at least 10 times before moving on when i first saw it.

has anyone heard JP's suspended animation? comments. i think it's neat, but im actually a little disappointed with it. i think he layered too many guitars in many spots and sometimes...shredding just doesn't work.
To be honest, I don't find that album particularly progressive, in comparison witht heir other stuff, it's more heavy and stuff. JP's guitarplaying is storming though.

I think that's what they were aiming for.

i didnt say i found ToT progressive shamed-angel, if that's what you meant haha.

That would be cool, but I dont thin they did. They did cover the entire "The Number of the Beast" cd though.

i recently got live at budokan and i havent watched it all the way through yet because i just cant stop watching hollow years, i havent heard it before i saw it on the dvd, and the solo is just amazing, i would adore them so much more if JP could write more solos like that. its not shreddy, and the bit where he kicks in with the wah saounds awesome.......anyone agree?

eighty d 01-05-2006 03:56 PM

JP's solo at the end of In The Name Of God on the Budokan DVD is better than the Hollow Years one IMO. Not saying Hollow Years doesn't rock, I just absolutely love the end of In The Name Of God.

Lord Abortion 01-05-2006 04:13 PM

Mmm, new DVD.

Live Octavarium sounds godly to me.

I don't think so, although I do have a version of The Trooper they did with Bruce Dickinson.

Sounds pretty great.
I'm going to watch Budokan tonight...

So I thought maybe some of you on here could help me out.
At my college I'm a volunteer DJ for the student-run free-format radio station. Periodically throughout the semester, we could sign up for "artist features" where we basically play one artist and tell the listening audience a little about the artist.
So of course I jumped on one and picked Dream Theater. Each artist feature show is an hour and a half long, which as you can imagine is proving to be a challenge with Dream Theater. I had the concept of possibly doing one song from each of DT's full-length with the exception of WDADU (because I don't like it and don't officially own it) and one for each dist of 6DOIT. I was wondering what you guys thought of this idea, and if you like it what songs would you recommend I play. If you want to suggest something, I'm not looking for single-song suggestions, I'm looking for entire playlist suggestions (keep in mind I have an hour and a half and I have to talk about the significant events with the band in between each song). Thanks in advance anyone who tries to take this on.
Btw, I have my own playlist already selected, but I'm wondering what you all think and I might alter mine a little based on what you say.

Deth 01-06-2006 08:29 PM

What's your playlist?

It would probably be better if we commented on yours then 20 people making lists.

amen brotha. amen.
i just might get...a little happy watching it. im so jealous of europe, SA, and asia that got to witness 8vm live.

anyone notice that in "in the name of god" on budokan, he's out of tune in the end? and one of the last high notes he holds b4 shredding into the band's final "all-out" moment is cringe-worthily flat.

nowitzki 01-06-2006 08:56 PM

Yeah, it was amazing. Although Jordan's solo before it was very boring, it dragged on way too long.

ghettoeddo 01-06-2006 09:12 PM

which show were you at?
and when you say jordan's solo...is it the one in 8vm? or did he play one before? i have some vids of them playing 8vm live, and it didnt seem like JR extended his solo

nowitzki 01-06-2006 09:16 PM

I saw them both nights at the Hammmersmith Apollo in London.
It was the thing he plays right at the start of it, on his red pad thing. It lasts about 3 minutes on the album but it must have gone on for about 10 minutes live.

Heh, I thought it was pretty cool. Sounded a lot better than the album version imo.

Jev 01-07-2006 06:28 AM

That bored me.

Jev 01-07-2006 10:51 AM

What songs you want to the names of? All of them in order they're played on the video?

As I am
Honor Thy Father
Can't tell what the next one is, it's just drums
Endless Sacrifice
Honor Thy Father again
Stream Of Conciousness
Not completely sure on the last one. Might be in The Name of God.
