Anyone heard Willie Nelson's Reggae album?

Wow. What the hell.

RockThe40oz! 08-29-2005 10:37 PM
What do you think those hardships are?
Not getting accepted into college?
No.

It's about being poor and having respect for your roots.
As in West Coast, East Coast.

=)
I understand that your white.
I am white...but i do also live in "the ghetto" on rental property....i know what it is like to be poor and from the ghetto

In the American society there is a differnce in being a poor white man and a poor black man.

People write and sing about what they love, if they love where they came from, if it includes drugs, sex, gang violence. Let them do it.
Self expression comes from the inside and your surroundings.

I mean look at GG Allin. He wasn't born crazy, his life turned him crazy.

SlappedByTheClash 08-29-2005 10:40 PM
I mean look at GG Allin. He wasn't born crazy, his life turned him crazy
I think that's debatable. GG was one insane motherf'ucker.

SantaDuJuan 08-29-2005 10:41 PM

That is kind of true, but I do think his child life really influnced his mind and way of life highly.
I mean Jesus the guy was beyond crazy.

you make a good point....

but there is alot of things that could be speculated...

things are more complicated than drugs and violence....

Like what?
When I was around 3 and 4 my mother dealed weed right infront me.
To this day when I hear about drugs violence and over doeses.
It hurts me in a personal way.
I could make a quality hip hop song about that.
And it would be a quality topic to sing about.

DOLEMITE 08-29-2005 10:51 PM
i understand that there are hardships in the "projects"

You gotta be ****ting me.
What do you think musical lyrics come from?
Singing about what you eat for breakfest?

No!
It comes from personal things.

Plus, you don't how much of an impact that song can have on someone.

yeah, but the point was when i started to talk about rap was that i think its more respectable to sing about that kinda shi't "in a personal way" besides just saying this is my hood, a do drugs and gang bang and drivebys...or MIKE JONES! MIKE JONES! MIKE JONES!

....they can rap about whatever they want to......

but when i hear that kind of **** i just want to go and ask the rappers why they want to sound so....."ghetto"......i just dont understand why....

Sid 08-29-2005 10:58 PM

It's funny when the MTV rappers do it. I'm sure they're on the streets everyday, with their millions of dollars and bmws.

I see my personal argument isn't getting through to you.
Let's relate it to music.

Timmy wants to be in a Jazz band.
He learns Jazz bass guitar and practices.
In his highschool he sits with his Jazz friends, he looks like someone that would play Jazz.
He's in Jazz band at school. (I actually am  )
He wears shirts of Jazz bands.

Why does Timmy do this? Because of he loves Jazz.

Why do people sing about Rap, why does Mike Jones write a song like that? Because the hip hop culture was orginally like that.
It came from blockpartys and Rapping about anything.
Can you really discuss African American hip hop when your not African American correctly?
there's no "correct" way to discuss culture like that. hip-hop is, of course, not exclusively african american. music is a component of culture, a form of expression shaped and influenced by cultural forces - those from the culture in question and outside ones as well. you could just as easily exclude blacks from punk music, whites from ska, asians from western music as a whole, etc. but that's absurd. someone's cultural identity cannot be discerned by skin color, even if the culture in question is roughly defined by skin color in some conventional sense.

and with that, i think i'm going to bid the community thread adieu. i'm too busy now with school to keep up with 5 pages a day of crazy posts by you people. but if you start badmouthing me in here, don't think i won't find out :upset:

yes, EXACTLY

and what i was saying is that i think that it is more of a respectable thing to write music and lyrics that explore a kind of new frontier for the genre...

such as kanye west...

not that its bad to stick to your roots or w/e...
