Sad But True 09-24-2010 05:06 AM
I do believe I just achieved the impossible. Now there is no line between being drunk and sober; I am now drober.
Haha I'm going to use that one.

Anyone know of any decent valve poweramps other than the Marshall 50/50 or 9005? (although if anyone has any experience with the 9005 that'd be nice)?

No Mesa because they be expensive to the max.

How is the Peavey Classic 60/60?
Uh, well, rather embarrassingly, I'm watching that True Blood series thing. My gf made me watch a few episodes and, because I get easily drawn in, I'm watching some more. I am a shameful person :upset:
I fucking love True Blood.

The way things are going, you'd probably be better off using the FX return on a head than looking for a seperate valve poweramp.

That said, is there a reason you're looking for Rack apart from teh metuhlz?

What do you mean by the way things are going?

I currently run my JMP-1 and Gmajor into the fx return of my JCM 800 combo, but not having a control over the poweramp volume is killing my tone at anywhere past halfway volume (ie, practice volume); distorting my cleans, fudging up my delays, etc. I also run the JCM into an old Marshall 1936 cab and mic that one up live because the speakers have more headroom than the ones in the JCM, so I'm thinking of picking up something like a 9005 50/50 and using the '36, and possibly buying another '36 in the future.
My brother just gifted me Civilization 5 through Steam. Dear god I'm not gonna get anything done for the next few days...
I'm thinking about picking that up today. I've played every one of them and owned all but the first. Though I already have Starcraft II and Halo:Reach to play, plus Gran Turismo 5 in a couple of weeks. Too many games to play! (if that is possible)

Sad But True 09-24-2010 11:53 AM

Holy shit GT 5 actually has a release date?! 'Bout fucking time.

I can't help but wonder on this fine September eve that GT5 having a release date is a cruel April Fools. It's so nonsensical that I'd be inclined to believe that it's actually April right now, rather than believe GT5 is going to be released.

i'm pretty stoked for the new duke nukem game

I mean that Rack amps are going out of fashion, and getting more expensive, while combos are getting cheaper and better every year.

If all you're lacking in life is a little box with a passive volume attenuator in it (or even an active one so there's no tone loss whatsoever), just build one/get me to build you one!

Sad But True 09-25-2010 05:01 AM

Moaner, could you troubleshoot with me for a few minutes?

Right, so when I turn up the preamp volume the poweramp section (I'm presuming) is distorting my cleans, and because my Gmajor is in series it's clipping and anything with delay/reverb on it (a lot of my stuff) is going nuts because it's clipping the input. But turning the input down leaves me without the volume to get over my drummer. How can I get more volume without clipping everything?

So the poweramp is constantly on full, and is still clipping your delay trails, through a 4*12?

What the fuck kind of volume do you need?

Sounds more likely you're overloading the input of the G major I guess, is there a global volume on the output of that you can turn up?

Sad But True 09-25-2010 11:17 AM

No, see, because the poweramp is basically the FX return of the JCM the volume of it is dependent on the volume of the preamp, I think. And it's a 2x12 combo, and sometimes I use a 1936 with it.

I_am_the_one 09-26-2010 03:25 AM

Did you try adjusting (lowering) the patch volume level on JMP-1?

jaklyons 09-26-2010 05:03 AM

A Zoom G2.1u will solve all your problems, and at a low low price!

Sad But True 09-26-2010 05:07 AM
Did you try adjusting (lowering) the patch volume level on JMP-1?
It's on about halfway, except the lead patches are a bit higher. Besides, that would only have the same effect as turning the master preamp volume down.

Bruce E Kinesis 09-26-2010 06:14 AM

Doesn't that amp have a master volume mate?

guitarbaz 09-26-2010 10:13 AM

sounds like a rig too complicated for me SBT

me = guitar - amp. although i do use one of them there vocalist live things.

odd one, me Engl (50w screamer) seemed to lose power yesterday afternoon at a gig, assumed it was one of the power amp valves popped, but then seemed ok at the evening gig. fired it up at home today and both power amp valves are glowing but it still seems a little quiet. ordered a new pair of valves but i dunno...ideas??

Kuffuffled 09-26-2010 11:55 AM

Mine shut off while I was playing and won't even turn on

I'm assuming it's now a paperweight
