Have you heard Firewind's Forged by Fire? I think it meets your demands. Also check Kamelot if you haven't. My favorite album by them would be The Fourth Legacy, but around here the Black Halo is usually pinned for best.
I can say that both of the Kamelot albums are awesome, quality Power Metal.

Anyone got any tips for some good Symphonic Power Metal? Other than Nightwish and Therion?

Shattered_Future 01-05-2007 02:37 PM

Rhapsody. Of course.

Blind Guardian's A Night At The Opera would do you good as well.

Surtr 01-05-2007 02:43 PM

I have A Night At The Opera..and it's probably my least favorite BG album.

I'll check out some Rhapsody then.

MetalOz 01-05-2007 03:04 PM

Symphony of Enchanted Lands 2 is coming out in the DU in a couple days

Surtr 01-05-2007 03:11 PM

I'll check it for sure.

AA-12 01-05-2007 08:19 PM

Rhapsody is amazing, I love them.

Surtr 01-05-2007 08:24 PM

I can't get anything by 'em, all I keep getting is Bohemian Rhapsody stuff..

AA-12 01-05-2007 08:27 PM

Search for "Dawn of Victory". It's my personal favorite album from them.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-05-2007 08:28 PM

Josh: Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction

GenuineImitation 01-05-2007 08:29 PM
So guys, i'm getting back into PM, and am looking for albums. I really like the faster stuff with a clear speed metal influence, but still super epic :).
Check out Running Wild's Black Hand Inn and Savatage's Hall of the Mountain King.

Deth 01-05-2007 08:31 PM

I need some Savatage and Gamma Ray. They're bands I've had on my list for a while but haven't gotten around to yet.

Surtr 01-05-2007 08:31 PM

Ughhh..LimeWire SUCKS.

I can't get anything at all.

AA-12 01-05-2007 08:31 PM

You should get SoulSeek.
Josh: Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction
I actually have that I think, but haven't listened, haha. Jag Panzer kicks *** though so I doubt it'd be bad.
Check out Running Wild's Black Hand Inn and Savatage's Hall of the Mountain King.
BHI is great, i'll check out the latter album.

GenuineImitation 01-05-2007 08:31 PM
I need some Savatage and Gamma Ray. They're bands I've had on my list for a while but haven't gotten around to yet.
Whast your AIM? I can send you some Savatage.

You need Hall of The Mountain King.

That goes for you too Josh.

Deth 01-05-2007 08:34 PM
Whast your AIM? I can send you some Savatage.
My connection sucks, so I'll save you the hassle. Thanks a bunch for the offer though.

AA-12 01-05-2007 08:34 PM

I always thought Savatage was super hair metallish, but i'll get it.

GenuineImitation 01-05-2007 08:35 PM
I always thought Savatage was super hair metallish, but i'll get it.
Not hair metal at all. Whats your AIM? I can send it you, if you would like.

AA-12 01-05-2007 08:36 PM

intothenihil

thanks man.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-05-2007 08:39 PM

Hair Metal? I'm not sure where you got that from :-\

GenuineImitation 01-05-2007 08:39 PM

No problem dude.

I have been trying to find some Wuthering Heights. I know Alex always talks about them, but never got a chance to listen to them. What album should I start with?

AA-12 01-05-2007 08:42 PM
Hair Metal? I'm not sure where you got that from :-\
Haha, I thought I had an album before from them that was hair metal, but guess not. Probably some other band.

Burger Bike 01-05-2007 10:00 PM

I really love Alogia - Secret spheres of art

Riva 01-05-2007 10:46 PM

Savatage -had- a couple of hair metal moments, but Wake Of Magellan, The Hall Of The Mountain King, Edge Of Thorns, etc, are all pretty heavy/power metallish.

Iron Bars 01-06-2007 03:25 AM

The last 2 albums are both very good. Far from the Maddening Crowd is probably still my favorite though the new one, The Shadow Cabinet, is also great.

I'll check those out. Thanks alot.

MetalOz 01-09-2007 05:57 PM

I need some suggestions for atypical power/traditional or power/prog bands. I have many many albums of bands that are all kind of blending together into generic stuff and I'm looking for standouts. My favorite stuff at the moment is Kamelot and Stormental... any suggestions?

Shattered_Future 01-09-2007 07:15 PM

Atypical? Try some Sonata Arctica. They do traditional neoclassicalish power metal very nicely.

You could try either Oceanborn or Wishmaster by Nightwish as well.

MetalOz 01-09-2007 08:19 PM

I have Sonata Arctica's discography already and I already have those Nightwish albums as well, but thanks for trying :thumb: I might try something thrashier. The latest Winters Bane, Communic, and Nevermore have been getting a lot of play lately as well...

pate 01-09-2007 09:21 PM

Winters Bane :chug:

MetalOz 01-15-2007 02:39 PM

I just discovered another German band that have been around forever and I had never heard them... PARAGON

I got The Dark Legacy and it's great traditional/power stuff. Of course it has to be since it was produced by Piet Sielck (Iron Savior)

Any other fans?

/bump, third page!

Riva 01-15-2007 05:02 PM

I saw a Paragon album once, but I didn't pick it up for reasons that escape me at the moment. I'll look into it again... Sounds like Iron Saviour?

Lunarfall 01-15-2007 07:39 PM

Someone recommend me a Rhapsody of Fire album. Preferably the best one in your opinion.

Btw, what does Demons and Wizards sound like? Blind Guardian?

Stormrider 01-15-2007 07:44 PM

Demons and Wizards has some of Jon's(Iced Earth) signature riffing. And Hansi's vocals over it basicly(some changes obviously). If you like either band, I'm sure you'll like Demons and Wizards :)

So, any Rhapsody of Fire recommendations?

I would recommend Symphony of Enchanted Lands II, but thats the only one I have.

PS. That Symphony X albums is godly.

Stormrider 01-15-2007 08:18 PM

I don't think I ever got myself through all of the Odyssey(song) :-/

pate 01-15-2007 10:17 PM

ITT: Jammie loses respect.

no, not rly :p

Oz: I don't really like Paragon.

MetalOz 01-16-2007 12:34 PM

I only have the one album and it's quite good... haven't heard any of their early material but their last few albums were all produced by Piet Sielck so I'm guessing they'll have that same vibe...

Everything by Symphony X = :thumb:

Tyr 01-16-2007 03:27 PM
Everything by Symphony X = :thumb:
You've got that right, my friend.
