i just listened to heroin...i enjoyed it (thank god im not on drugs or that would probably freak me out) you seem knowledgable, can you recommend more velvet underground songs that you think would do the band justice? i never knew nico sang with velvet revolvet. i read about her a bunch in my jim morrison biography. she didnt sound very talented at music.

edit- oh god i did say velvet revolver (i still spelt it wrong though)

you mean velvet underground dont you

Paranoidd 09-22-2004 01:30 PM

Haha, you said Velvet Revolver

I do it sometimes too.

Andy Worhol really, really liked Nico (but he was also a nutbar) and insisted that VU let her perform with them. The band wasn't even too crazy about her at first. She had a weird voice. Andy Worhol gave them their break (they were like his "official" band) so they owed him the favor.

Other songs I really like by them

Venus in Furs
Candy Says
Sunday Morning
Waiting for the man
What goes on
Pale Blue Eyes
Jesus
Beginning to See the light
Sweet Jane

Some of my favorites...

You may also like some of Lou Reed's solo work. He put out a CD recently called "animal serenade," it's a live album and it's real good. He does a few VU tracks on it, as well as his own material (of which he has quite a bit).

One of the best simple songwriters ever, IMHO.
They did plenty of original stuff. And what they took from others, they actually improved with additions of their own.

But yeah, sheesh, make your own music. All of it!
Yea I know, I meant it as a joke.

"Half my life...Spent doin' time, for some other fucker's crime" ~ Wharf Rat

That's a cool line.

We should make a top 20 best lyrical Classic Rock lines.

Paranoidd 09-23-2004 05:54 AM

Sounds like a good idea to me.

StreetlightRock 09-23-2004 06:26 AM

"it was a blind man who thought me how to see"

Blind Man - Aerosmith... was just playing, heh.

jpj 09-23-2004 10:09 AM

i like this one
"and to the black folks he was just a crazy ****** there was no doubt that he pulled the trigger"

Broken Arrow 09-23-2004 02:20 PM

I like the lyrics-"Love lost, such a cost give my things that wont get lost, like a coin that wont get tossed rolling home to you."

lunch998 09-23-2004 02:35 PM

I'm sure Pink Floyd has some great lines but I can't think of any specific examples. In general they have great lyrics though.

the mighty zep 09-23-2004 02:38 PM

The entire song Time could easily qualify

lunch998 09-23-2004 02:40 PM

I like the end section of Dogs. And most of the Wall has good lyrics.

jpj 09-23-2004 03:43 PM

"One of these days im gonna chop you up into little pieces"

MalcolmYoungRock 09-23-2004 03:50 PM

"Hey you, out there in the cold
Getting lonely, getting old
Can you feel me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles
With itchy feet and fading smiles
Can you feel me?
Hey you, don’t help them to bury the light
Don’t give in without a fight."

Hey You - God I love that song.
