hey blockhead you ever play guts revenge for the dreamcast? hack n slash based on berserk
I have never played it bro. I have a Dreamcast though so I'll burn it and play it soon. It's pretty cool how DC has no piracy protection so you can burn all the games straight to a CD-r and you just put them in and they work. I got my DC for $30 and I have these games:
Jet Grind Radio Capcom vs SNK 1 and 2 Marvel vs Capcom 2 Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike Ikaruga Sonic Adventure 2 I play Ikaruga the most by far. Have you ever played that? It's a vertical shooter and it's very tough. The concept is you can switch between black or white polarities and you can absorb bullets of whichever color you are and use them to fire homing missiles. White does double damage to black enemies and vice versa. Of course you have a normal shot too. It's really crazy because there are bullets of both colors filling the entire screen and you have to switch polarities on the fly. |
damn negro...
Ikaruga is a game by treasure(probably damn expensive now)...you'd do well to try and get through all their games. A friend and I blasted through Gunstar Heroes in one sitting tripping on mushrooms....it was a furiously cool experience. |
I've read a bunch. Akira is a great one to start with and one of my favorites. I just read Death Note (I'd seen the anime before) and it was excellent. I would highly recommend either.
What's Battle Royale like?
a bunch of kids get transported to an island and forced to kill each other for other people's entertainment |
I've been aware of Ikaruga for ages but somehow I still haven't played it. My story with the DC is exactly the same though, I have a tin full of CD-Rs with the games burned on them. It's cool because I've found games that aren't that well regarded but are actually awesome and I never would have played them if not for it being free.
Super Magnetic Neo is the most relevant example of this. It's criticized for being a mediocre Crash Bandicoot rip-off but the magnetism gimmick is really cool and something that should have been used in more polished games. If I were to recommend one game for you to burn though, it's Cosmic Smash. To my understanding, it originated as a Japanese arcade game and the DC port was never released in the US. It's essentially a squash target smash game but wow I have no clue why it's so good. The art style is really cool, it looks like Apple designed the game except it came out before iAnything. I've beat Dynamite Headdy, Gunstar Heroes on Extreme with my bro, Gunstar Super Heroes and a few others I can't think of. I've gotten to the boss on level 4 of Ikaruga but I haven't been able to get to the last level yet. I'm improving steadily though and I know that I will beat it eventually. I've beat Gunstar Heroes more times than I can count, it's one of my all time favorites. When I rode the bus I would beat Seven Force on Extreme every day on the way to school  I used to be insane at that one but it's a good bit easier than the original. |

The only problem is that my cd drive on my laptop is broken so I can't burn any games until I buy a new computer. :( Why haven't you played Ikaruga if you can burn it? What are you waiting for bro? It's an excellent, but frustrating, game. It's not cheap, it's just hardcore. When you play it you will want to play another game as soon as you die because it's so addictive and you'll want to see if you can get just a little bit farther. What other old school systems do you own and what games for DC do you have? I'm a big retro gaming enthusiast especially JRPGs, 2d fighters and platformers. I've been getting into 2d shooters a lot lately too thinks to Justin (juddybear.) |
I have a lot of burned DC games but the ones that aren't stupid crap and I actually have labelled (gotta do that as soon as you burn, I have a stack of unlabelled discs I don't wanna go through and boot up and label now):
MDK 2 (highly recommended, TOUGH action game), Super Magnetic Neo & Cosmic Smash (mentioned), MvC2 (tbh I find it overrated), Powerstone 2 (the first and this one are DC classics, multiplayer is ridic), Crazy Taxi (nother classic), Chu Chu Rocket (quirky puzzle game). Wow I could have sworn I had more must have lost a bunch :( I'll get on Ikaruga ASAP and get back to you We got an NES when it came out but skipped SNES/Genesis generation so I've played those games retroactively. N64 is my favorite system ever, harboring the classic 3D platformers which is my favorite genre. Banjo Kazooie is not only my favorite game ever, but I would argue at least one of the greatest games ever made. |

I've been sort of holding out on going to the emulator mainly because of the serious library of classics that I have to unload on my brain. But it's coming, I can feel it. |
what is it like
it depends on the dose. Light doses under 1gram feel similar but not the same as mdma. The immediate shift in your serotonin/dopamine balance gives your thoughts and body (body being very prominent) a free flowing feeling. It also removes or disaffects time as a preoccupation for your mind (free flowing) which allows your thoughts to sort of spark up and fade out naturally, giving you an empathetic capacity for retaining certain feelings and thoughts. Consider it like a magnifying glass, your focus is expanded merely for the moment so you are able to recognize what is vibrant in the now, what is passing by, giving you a true shift in perspectives. It doesn't alleviate you from stress or any such thing, rather it gives you the capacity to let things live and die before your conscience. So fearful thinking can still take place and can cause "ego-death", but you are reassured in that you can see it through till you feel and think in one motion, being "one". |
