JJLink 08-20-2008 07:56 PM

Mappy, I wasn't able to understand anything there. Were there any words or was that a whole track of screaming and growls and more screaming?

Angmar 08-20-2008 07:57 PM

It's DM you don't understand lyrics 95% of the time, that's just how it is... :p

I know Angmar, I like his techniques and what he was doing, but was it just an instrumental with screams or was there any lyrical content?

Pete 08-20-2008 08:02 PM

ohyeah

JJLink 08-20-2008 08:06 PM

Well I am a singer and a lyricist, and screams and vocals should be in the same song, unless that is what Mappy was going for.
However if he sang that way for a whole live set, I wonder how long his voice would hold out. He said it was not painful to him to sing that way in another thread, but it sure sounds painful and like he could be hurting his voice. Hey what do I know about todays death metal singers?...not much

yeah he, and 1000000000 other metal singers with him, "sing" like that for whole live sets - nay, for whole tours even. mappy isn't even the most extreme or anything

yes, it was me growling, i didnt mean to build expectations

JJLink 08-20-2008 08:44 PM

One of the best teachers for learning to scream and growl properly is Melissa Cross, check her out. She has vids on google, She is based in NYC and when we record our Next CD in Bearsville, I will go to her for refresher lessons. She is $200 an hour in person, but you can buy her CD's much cheaper.

I have also studied with Elisabeth Sabine in Los Angeles and she has some stuff out to, but she teaches more hard rock vocals and Melissa Cross is more into the death metal style.
