I listen to loads of different genres mate I was listening to some ambient/trance music earlier. But my favourite genre is and always will be metal.

I know whatcha mean about the monkeys. There a good band ruined by music journalists who act so surprised that a singer sings in his proper accent. The musicianship and lyrics for such a young band are amazing tho'

I liked the Arctic Monkeys for a while, but then the press wanked over them so much I cant listen to them anymore. Overhyped and Overplayed imo.

The lyrics are clever, I'll grant you. Brainstorm could've been lifted straight off the last album though

Manic start, lots of dundundundun, everyone stops except the guitarist who plays a jilted, trebley riff, everyone joins in on said riff, singer sings along to said riff in his Sheffield accent, sticking rigidly to the 5 notes he can hit, everyone stops so the singer can finish his clever line, chorus

repeat ad nauseum

It's a derivative fad imo. I blame them for the Holloways, Kooks, Fratellis, Just Jack, Lily Allen, The ****ing View... everyone and anyone who has sucked someone off to make a career out of not putting in any effort into the performance at all, sticking to one octave for their unintelligable slurring and mangling of the english language over some nasty strat-riff

Arctic Monkeys are nowhere near as bad as those, but their style doesn't deserve the hype nor the following

Nobody has any longevity any more. Look at Kaiser Chiefs

The latest album didn't do badly, exactly, but nowhere near their expectations.

Might be because it was boring. And crap.

Apparently it was recorded almost straight after the first album, but they waited till sales of Employment dropped sufficiently for the release to be worthwhile. And you can tell; it sounds exaclty the same as the first album but without any of the fun

Arcade Fire's new one's boring too =/ King's Of Leon's is ... odd.

Indie is far better then Metal IMO, and IMO its not a fad.

There are a lot of predictable trends about now which are ruining popular music. I didn't say indie was a fad, the Arctic Monkeys seem to have started one for coloquial accents (as long as they're from sheffield or london), which has been taken too far by the View and the Kooks, with their choruses of "oooowaoh, she hurthukooo, shemooeenuroway"

High quality indie can pwn metal, you're right. But unfortunately high quality indie seems to be pretty sparse these days. Big selling indie, that is. I await Oasis's new one with baited breath

Nobody takes any time to actually write, and then produce their records now. It has become far too easy for just anyone to make music, throw it together and put it on the internet, then become a star because they sound exactly like another band.

The worst type is rap/hip-hop, watch Channel U and you will see exactly what I mean. The "music" on there is appalling

Lamb Of God and Mastodon's last album pwned almost every other album last year imo. The only other two albums which came close to it was the Muse's album and Arctic Monkeys debut. And agreed I ahte the kooks and most modern/gangster rap. That said can't beat a bit of Public Enemy or my fav The Streets.

Does anyone else do what I do? - Ignore any band that begin with 'The ______' or get their first break through NME?

2006 was a bit cack for albums, 2007 has already been miles better.

NME is fúcked up piece of opinionated shít. Just don't get it in the first place.

This is going to be ace as well; the first smahsing pumpkins release and thier first real album since 2001 make this year better than last on it's own.

NME used to be good but it's reviews are still subjective and really well written. Put it this way the reviewers on this site should take note of thow they write. It's just their interviews and coverage which are really crap.

I'm uncomfortable with the idea of a magazine informing us which bands are good because it creates an environment in which the definitions for 'good' are created, not followed, by the magazine

If some peole can think that punk is good then there is no way a general music review magazine can be of any use to anybody

My friend's band is playing the main stage at Download. I don't even know what to say to that. It's bizarre, I was in 6th form with less than a year ago.
