ATM 04-03-2005 03:27 PM

You've never seen it? It's a really funny skit from SNL. I can upload an episode if you are interested.

GurS 04-03-2005 03:29 PM

ATM, sounds cool but i'm not on my laptop so i wouldn't be able to watch it :upset:
I'm probably going to spend quite a lot of time discussing methods of knowing, such as rational, emotional, logical, and instinctive, and attempt to define where one of these begins, and another one ends. My conclusion's probably going to end up being something along the lines of what we think we know at the moment, based on "scientific fact", is in a state of permanent change, as new theories come to light, and therefore what we know as a result of our emotions is as valid a form of knowing, as what we know based on what we percieve as absolute facts. I'm really undecided though,as we've actually been told to avoid coming to too firm a conclusion, as apparently it shows a "lack of open mindedness". So yeah, I'm basically saying that it's possible to know something that hasn't been proven. I'm considering going into religion, but I'm undecided on that as well.
Ah fun. You might also bring up that what is accepted as fact is only where many people conceive the same thing to be true, and so not proving something simply means that the majority of people don't perceive it to be true, but because of the evolution and change you mentioned, that doesn't mean it won't.

Madey: No eating really is overrated.

But I love eating.

I loved food even when I was living in Europe for the first half of my life.

Kurtz 04-03-2005 03:39 PM

Where in Europe?

I love to eat too.

ATM 04-03-2005 03:41 PM

I was born in Germany, and I spent a few years in Norway too.

Jom 04-03-2005 03:43 PM

Holy shit, it is soooooooo nice out. I just got back from playing ultimate.

Guess how much paper I've revised so far?

NOT A SINGLE BIT! Ah hah hah hah hah. But I'm working on it now.

But I want to be outside :(

Kurtz 04-03-2005 03:43 PM

German born, or were one of your parents in the military via America?

Jom 04-03-2005 03:45 PM
When you get back, what's the paper about? I have to write a 1600 word essay tomorrow on whether we can know something that has not yet been proven. Fun fun fun.
I have to revise that Aeneid vs. Odyssey paper, the one that talks about trips to the Underworld.

I could drastically use some assistance :-\

Your paper = far more interesting.

I would like to be a philosophy minor, but it's not a teachable minor :(

I want to take some phi courses. But I can't. Fuck my uni.

Permanent Solution 04-03-2005 03:45 PM

It's nice outside here too, I'd be outside but I have nothing to do so meh.

ATM 04-03-2005 03:46 PM

My parents were in the military via USA. It was a great experience.

Thinking about transfering?

ATM 04-03-2005 03:51 PM

AH, transfer to art/music school like I am.

GurS 04-03-2005 03:53 PM

wanna hear something funny?

I came home, to find my house empty, and my keys and mobile phone inside the house. I was locked out.

All I had were three cd's, four pounds, a pen, and a bus pass.

What did i decide to do?

Ride the buses for about 5 hours. I went EVERYWHERE. All over London. Did a fair bit of walking. Sight-seeing too. Bought a hot dog. Went back home. My parents were back. I said hi, and we went to TGI Friday's for supper.

Good times.

ATM 04-03-2005 03:55 PM

Sounds good. I wish I was in London. I've been there twice, but only for a short period of time each time I went.

Jom 04-03-2005 03:55 PM
Thinking about transfering?
Negative, I love the campus here, it's just that I hate everyone here and how scheduling and coursework is divided... but I guess with the people thing that's the drawback of being at a Division II uni.

/begins rant

It's just that I don't want to be here for five years for a job where I'm only going to get around $26,000/year for. It's almost not worth it to me right now.

I would change my major, but I'm already too far in and I still do want to teach and coach. It's just that I would appreciate it if I could take one or two courses that don't involve my major and minor, just because I'm interested in them and want to broaden my horizons... but no, they focus you in on solely your major and minor by not clarifying your required classes.

This is what I meant:

I have to take PSY325, which is Psychology in Education. In order to take this REQUIRED class, I need to take two REQUIRED prereqs to get up to it.

Nowhere does it say ONCE that that needed to happen. That's why I'm irritated.

/ends shortened rant when it could have dragged out

Also, could someone please upload Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)?" I know it's a strange request, but I left all my CDs at home and I don't have it with me, and I really want to hear this song :(

Thanks.
AH, transfer to art/music school like I am.
But I'm not good at art. I love music, but my background in it (music theory courses and band in high school) is not as diverse or well-grounded as yours :(

The TSO track will be with you in a few minutes.

That's what you go there to learn. You don't have to be an expert at these things to get in, you just need passion.

Explain why they differ, that's really ambiguous the way you worded it.
That's what you go there to learn. You don't have to be an expert at these things to get in, you just need passion.
Yeah, true, but I don't have any confidence in any of my playing abilities. I also don't think that I'm exactly a stellar musician, save for trumpet. My suckiness at guitar has been well-documented on MX. And besides, I only know a little theory and transcribing. It's fun, but I don't think I could do it. When I read Ramsey and others post about Lycrian modes and things, I always think, "I want to know what they're talking about!" but am too worried to ask. So I just pretend that I know what they're talking about.
