Pretty amazing, eh?

Lord Abortion 04-05-2006 05:37 PM

Very much so...I just have to get to like scarred and then I love every song on Awake.

I can't understand your dislike for Scarred. Its always been one of my all time favorite DT songs. Petrucci's solos are some of my favorites. Oh well, I'm going back to listening to Live After Death.

Lord Abortion 04-05-2006 05:58 PM

I just honestly haven't listened to it all that much.
can't say I dislike it, it's just never clicked with me.

Chu 04-05-2006 06:03 PM

Petrucci's first solo in Scarred :o
Vote Portnoy...right now!
Yep. I'm cheering for either Powell, Paice, Portnoy or Peart to win these thing. (What's with drummer's last names that start with P? Weird.)

Lord Abortion 04-05-2006 06:38 PM

You are right, scarred is great.

It was the first song I really liked off Awake. Still probably my favourite on the album.

Watching that trailer really makes me want to get that DVD.

My DT CDs still haven't arrived :(

Jev 04-06-2006 04:47 AM
Yeah, it's not bad, but it just hasn't got that...James :p

Hahaha, JP is starting to look like James Hetfield
Haha, I was thinking that yesterday.
He needs to ditch the slicked hair.

kirk_wylde 04-06-2006 05:20 AM

I just discovered that the problem with the missing drum fill yesterday was not a problem with the dvd, but with my software, it turned out the software was just skipping. I feel like a fool now :(

at least i can lay my mind to rest now.
and i would be really interested to hear the pink floyd covers, although it seems an odd choice to do considering that the style of playing is the polar opposite of what DT normally do. It will be very interesting to see how well they can tone down their playing.

Clunge 04-06-2006 07:14 AM

Anyone else think that 6DoIT sounds as if its recorded live?

Lord Abortion 04-06-2006 07:26 AM

Well, there are a few of the songs on LATB, and they really helped me get into the studio ones; 6DOIT is now one of my favourite albums because of that.

Make sure you have a towel when you listen to them then.

ever eeking always rupert 04-07-2006 03:05 AM

Too late :( Boy, did I make a mess.

Oh god there's more coming.

Argh it's all going up the walls. Oh god this music is too awesome

From about 6:28 onwards in These Walls, I start to melt.

The end is just soooo good, the orchestral bits with riffage and stuff and ,fmaeokfjoauifhniufafhawey8rg8395t3875yhu8qfhrquiwhoir.

Oh man, I know the feeling! I feel just like this near the end of Learning To Live, when James sings the line, "It's what decides if you'll endure the pain that we all feel." God, I just wanna "fmaeokfjoauifhniufafhawey8rg8395t3875yhu8qfhrquiwhoir" every time I hear that!

Interesting.
Dream Theater are one of those bands who can make my hair stand on my back every time. Even if I know what's going to happen.

Happens for me too with DT, Radiohead and Muse.

The Tourist by Radiohead gets me everytime.

I feel the same; There are few bands that can do that, and DT are certainly one of them for me.

Jev 04-07-2006 02:58 PM

When James hits those high notes in Innocence Faded, it gets me everytime.

Lord Abortion 04-07-2006 03:00 PM

It's James' vocals that do that...ah man, I wish I could sing like him.

Jev 04-07-2006 03:05 PM

You're not the only one.
I try.

I'm just starting to get into Dream Theater, which album should I get first?

badtaste 04-07-2006 08:43 PM
I'm just starting to get into Dream Theater, which album should I get first?
Images and Words is the definitive Dream Theater album. Buy it, and then work from there. Essentially there are two types of DT fans, the prog fans and the metal fans. If you're the former, buy the earlier albums. If you're the latter, go for the most recent albums.

Learning to Live on LSFNY makes me cream my pants. Does anyone here also start clapping with Labrie and the audience?

White 04-07-2006 08:57 PM

ya.I&W is where I started and I got hooked from there.

Jev 04-08-2006 05:27 AM

Haha that bra thing is funny.
There's one of Dave Mustaine where he gets it caught in his guitar whilst soloing and doesn't stop.

I was listening to WDADU last night...
How comes everyone says it's their worst album? :(

nowitzki 04-08-2006 10:29 AM

Because it has awful production and doesn't have LaBrie.
