you been listening to TSO lately?
and on the kamelot DVD is there any keyboard solos?
I just went to see TSO. And the keyboardist does take a few solos, including a solo classical piano thing that is really, really sweet. |

The band is really together too, which is ridiculously awesome. And all the guests are, of course, hotness.
Especially Simone Simons. :naughty: |
You're a douchebag.
I picked up One Cold Winter's Night. Great DVD...production is excellent, and the setlist is excellent too. I also picked up Sentenced's giant DVD pack thingy of their last show ever, which I still have to check out.
Have you heard Sentenced's newest album? I enjoy Frozen and Amok, but haven't heard much about the new one. |

Yeah, that was pretty sweet. I haven't gotten ahold of The Funeral Album yet, but I have The Cold White Light. Not the greatest thing ever, but it's really catchy, and there's some great tunes on it. |
Haven't been here in forever.
Anyway, got John Olivia's Pain, Maniacal Renderings today. Really damn good so far. |
Been a while since I posted in this thread.
I just got Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth. It's fast becoming my favorite album of theirs. It's up there with Imaginations From The Other Side and Nightfall in Middle Earth. Really good. |

I'd say start with Serius B and Lemuria or Secret of the Runes. Or wait until the new one is released, thats good too (read: download the new one called Gothic Kabbalah).

Sirius B and Lemuria are great. I like Quetzalcoatl, Son of the Sun, Dark Venus Persepone and Blood of Kingu from those CD's the best. I got the leak of Gothic Kaballah, though, and it has tons of great songs on it too.
I just got Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth. It's fast becoming my favorite album of theirs. Otherland is the epitome of epicness, and Straight Through The Mirror is probably my favorite BG song. IMO, that CD would be almost perfect if it weren't for Carry The Blessed Home. |
I like Carry the Blessed Home myself.
|
Maybe it's just my prejudice against BG ballads...
I actually think the singles off that album are weak too; Another Stranger Me is decent but I don't like Fly too much. Other than that, ATITM has been making up a huge part of my listening lately. |
I like Fly more than Another Stranger Me by a considerable margin.
Yeah, I have a soft spot for BG ballads anyway. |

Either that or Straight Through the Mirror for me.
I got Kamelot's live album today. Much headbanging ensued. |
I love that DVD, as was actually stated on this same page. :p
GODDAMMIT NO IT'S NOT! |
lawl, owned by page change.
|
Well shattered got me curious so with my bullmoose giftcard i went out and got the Kamelot DVD and am quite horny over it, its one of the best live DVD's ive ever seen the quality and preformance are amazing, the keyboard player is also quite good.
hopefully this last me till my late christmas **** comes in to play with. |
Honestly, I do think it's one of the best DVDs I have. Everything is fantastic.
|
the only other power metal one i have is Sonata arctica's and thats pretty good too but i still like the kamelot better.
|
i just finished picking up the last dragonforce cd i didn't have, i bought that new one...inhuman rampage, i wana finish off my maiden collection next
|
...so about the awesomeness that is Kamelot...
Why are their songs so awesome? Is there something about their songwriting or structure that is superior to other power metal bands? I usually don't like bands with a keyboard player and a single guitarist as much as I do with 2 guitarists but Kamelot and perhaps Symphony X are exceptions... In the studio of course they can fatten up the sound with layered guitars but they are still quite awesome live! |
For one, they are a very tight band. They know how to work off of each other very well.
I think what works majorly in their favor is the songwriting abilities of both Youngblood and Khan. Never have I heard an orchestra integrated so well with heavy metal as Kamelot does. Few can touch their greatness at that. They also know how to write DIFFERENT songs. They have VARIETY. That is one of the pitfalls of power metal, the sameyness that many bands exhibit. Kamelot does not. Even after multitudes of albums, their sound is still just as new as it was before. Now I'm kinda pissed I missed them in September. They would have been awesome to see live. |
I was supposed to see them in September also, at Jaxx in Springfield, VA but I got called out of town on business and spent the evening in a Hotel room watching X-Files re-runs instead
|
Ouch...that kinda bites.
I had a choice between them or Blind Guardian. As much as I love Kamelot, I wanted to see Blind Guardian terribly. |
Blind Guardian came to my town in November, and I was dying to see them. But it was on Thanksgiving, and I couldn't go.
|
Hey, guys!
Just dropping in to say hi and Happy New Year and all of that great stuff! :) Hard at work on the new LORD album now, and arranging for Dungeon's The Final Chapter album to actually be out worldwide (long story, but it'll all make sense in a month or 2) so all of you non-Aussies can actually get the damn thing! Hope you're all well! :chug: |
Good news, hope you had a great New Year's too, LT.
Meanwhile, you missed out on voting for Dungeon in the Top 100 Metal bands poll. |
HAHAHA! Ah well, there's always next year for LORD! :)
|
 He returns!
I have converted into a full Dungeon fan since the last time you were here o' Lord Tim. |
HAHA! You have my condolences! :p
|
Nice too see you again Tim.
|
I really need to get that Kamelot DVD, all I have of theres is is The Fourth Legacy and The Black Halo. They both kick huge amounts of ***.
EDIT: Oh ya, and BG live was amazing, saw them in November |
So, Blind Guardian announced anymore Aussie tour dates? Or is it just Melbourne?
|
Just Melbrourne. They're going to the Aussieland before they're coming to the Greekieland :(
|
So guys, i'm getting back into PM, and am looking for albums. I really like the faster stuff with a clear speed metal influence, but still super epic :).
|
Have you heard Firewind's Forged by Fire? I think it meets your demands. Also check Kamelot if you haven't. My favorite album by them would be The Fourth Legacy, but around here the Black Halo is usually pinned for best.
|
Getting both of those as we speak. Thanks :)
