Show off :(

Badmoon 09-21-2004 09:14 PM

I've noticed on Europe '72, during "Sugar Magnolia", Bob Weir (Who is sings the song) does not lose control of the note and give that old man gasp on the "Saw" part of "Saw my baby, down by the river". Which he of course commonly does.

Or am I the only one who cares?

Screw you Mohummed!!!!!

jpj 09-21-2004 09:14 PM

BludgeonySteve 09-21-2004 09:39 PM

ha, it doesn't have feelings.

Also i've notcied that the quality of the songs on that site aren't as good as the real thing. It has a lot of downsides but more upsides than downside, the upsides also being more significant than the downsides, so the upsides make up for the downsides which it has.

*hopes that made sense*

jpj 09-21-2004 09:40 PM

yea the quality is pretty bad
They were an early 90's brit rock band. They pretty much inspired Oasis (well, Liam decided he wanted to be a singer after hearing them). They also did a great job of combining some electronic sounds as well. Their styles vary widely...

If I had to recommend a couple songs off the top of my head, I'd say Daybreak and Driving South. The guitar work is excellent. Their bass player, Mani Moufield (one of my favs), went to play with Primal Scream after the stone roses broke up. He's a killer player too.
Yeah, Mani is a killer bassist. Also check out Waterfall, Fool's Gold and Sally Cinamon track wise. They sound like a more bass driven Smiths with a hint of electro psychedelica.

Brown solo tweaks up the electro (seeing as he doesn't have a drummer or bassist anymore he kind of has too) but but his songs are more elaborate and interestingly arranged. My favourite by him is F.E.A.R. where every line of the song goes F____ E_____ A_____ R______ example the first verse is:

For each a road,
For everyman a religion,
Find everybody and rule,
F*** everything and rumble,
Forget everything and remember,
For everything a reason,
Forgive everybody and remember.

It sounds REALLY cool.

Creedence Clearwater 09-22-2004 04:22 AM

^^ I like the avatar, did you make it yourself in paint?

slowhand 09-22-2004 12:10 PM

Ahem...

Guys, I want to buy the Blusebreaker CD (the Beano one). Is it as good as everyone says it is?

Also, I'm interested in Velvet Underground and Rush, but don't know where to start. Help, please. And can anyone tell me what they sound like?

Paranoidd 09-22-2004 12:17 PM

*ahem*

Good choise on VU and Rush. Two of my all time favorite bands.

Pretty much anything of VU is good. Lou Reed (of VU) has had a 30 year career after VU, but most people think his stuff with the band is the best. Jeez man, I really like all their tracks, but stuff like Heroin, Venus in Furs, Candy Says, Jesus, etc, etc is just essential. The only album you may want to avoid (unless you're really into pysch and poetry) is White Light/White Heat. I have them all, personally, but it's an aquired taste.

As for Rush, go with anything that didn't come after signals. A farewell to kings is my favorite album of theirs, but 2112, Caress of Steel, Moving Pictures, pretty much everything is excellent.

slowhand 09-22-2004 12:22 PM

Thanks.

From VU, is "Velvet Underground and Nico" good?

Paranoidd 09-22-2004 12:26 PM

Yup. Probably their most criticially acclaimed album.

The only thing that you may not like is Nico's voice, she's got a weird one, but she doesn't sing on every song so you should be OK.

slowhand 09-22-2004 12:32 PM

But what is their scene? I mean, are they blues rock, prog rock, what?

Paranoidd 09-22-2004 12:34 PM

Psychedelic. They did loooots of drugs.

Lou Reed is the master of making a simple song sound good. They're just simple songwriters, but some stuff (like venus in furs) has alot more elements to it.

slowhand 09-22-2004 12:43 PM

Well then, I think I might check out "Velvet Underground and Nico" and see what's all the fuss about.

Paranoidd 09-22-2004 12:45 PM

The track "heroin" is legendary. It's part of the unwritten junkie code that you never, ever play that song while getting high.

Heroin

I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
And I'll tell ya, things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus' son
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know
I have made the big decision
I'm gonna try to nullify my life
'Cause when the blood begins to flow
When it shoots up the dropper's neck
When I'm closing in on death
And you can't help me now, you guys
And all you sweet girls with all your sweet talk
You can all go take a walk
And I guess that I just don't know
And I guess that I just don't know
I wish that I was born a thousand years ago
I wish that I'd sail the darkened seas
On a great big clipper ship
Going from this land here to that
In a sailor's suit and cap
Away from the big city
Where a man can not be free
Of all of the evils of this town
And of himself, and those around
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Oh, and I guess that I just don't know
Heroin, be the death of me
Heroin, it's my wife and it's my life
Because a mainer to my vein
Leads to a center in my head
And then I'm better off and dead
Because when the smack begins to flow
I really don't care anymore
About all the Jim-Jim's in this town
And all the politicians makin' crazy sounds
And everybody puttin' everybody else down
And all the dead bodies piled up in mounds
'Cause when the smack begins to flow
Then I really don't care anymore
Ah, when the heroin is in my blood
And that blood is in my head
Then thank God that I'm as good as dead
Then thank your God that I'm not aware
And thank God that I just don't care
And I guess I just don't know
And I guess I just don't know

slowhand 09-22-2004 12:55 PM

I can read why someone wouldn't want to hear that song while doing drugs... It would freak them out.

And then there's Rush. Maybe I'll look for "A farewell to kings."
