is it true that david Gilmour owns the fender stratocaster from 1954 with the serial number 001?
Probably. I'm getting a strat that's almost the same guitar as his. Almost, he had some work done on it. It's the light blue one. |
Probably.

Man I was amazed that it took as many posts it did for the freaking Velvet Underground to come up! Lou Reed is god!
Ive been listening to the same music since fourth grade, classic rock and old grunge. Clasic rock is just music...we need the old whipersnappers to start teaching the new "musicians" a lesson on music! |
Most Saucerful of Secrets is bad except Syd's legendary Jugband Blues.

Oh, I meant the one off Ummagumma. |
Has anybody ever heard Stormbringer by Deep Purple? Amazing song. People should hear it before they hear Smoke on the Water, which is the most overrated classic rock song.

Yeah i'm getting an American strat. Hand made with a humbucker. It's going to be sweet. |

Employing the old "swoop in and leave" technique, possibly. Hope to hear more from you. Lou Reed was a cool guy, and I have some issues with a lot of new rock, but... you can't limit yourself in your tastes. You have to reach out and explore and you may find oyu like a lot more than you thought. -Mike |

Sorry. I have a little bit of a neurotic tendecy towards perfectionism, and I can be a bit of a jerk sometimes. I freely admit it. Mostly, I really don't mean anything mean by a lot of what I say. Still, I am working on it. I'll try to lighten up a bit. Sorry, Bro. :thumb: -Mike |
No negativity in the Classic Rock thread unless needed. Me and RocknotRoll learned that the hard way :(

Indeed. The classic rock isn't a harsh place. That's not what classic rock is about. If somebody says something you don't like, calmly debate it. Tom Petty>Neil Young>most. My new greater signingness type thing. |

Bob Dylan>All, in terms of voice. . . . ...degradation. He used to be able to sing, man. |

Very sorry, gentlemen. Not trying to be negative, just neurotically perfect. Blargh. -Mike |
Bob Dylan>All, in terms of voice.
. . . ...degradation. He used to be able to sing, man.
No he didn't. But that's fine. He has an all right voice. I like it. He was just a brilliant songwriter. His songs sounded good and had meaning. |
Well, since you put it that way, he never really had a great voice. It just sounded a hell of a lot better in the 60's. I respect Dylan highly and agree with you totally. I was just making a harmless joke.
I asked this before, but, does "Rush" count as Classic Rock? -Mike |
Yeh, it does.
I'm not sure anyone cares, but in my thread Thinking About a New Guitar... I've decided on an Ibanez Artcore AXD71BK. http://www.ibanez.com/guitars/guitar.asp?model=AXD71 I played it at the shop and it was beautiful. Matched my style exactly. Comments? |

Okay, so Rush counts. How the Hell does he sing that way?
|
Step 1. Take Knife.
Step 2. Put testicles on cutting board. Step 3. :amaze: You know what to do. Sorry if that was a little graphic but it's my best guess. |
:Ouch face:

So, the guy who sings for Rush is a eunuch? Strange...
|
It was interesting to listen to that guy sing. Later on, I was at a friend's house, and a Coheed & Cambria song comes on. The guy sounds almost exactly the same, and is singing in the same range. Seriously, the similarity of the two singers is a little strange.
Possibly not though... As I was being driven home (five days, man...), a Linkin Park song came on the radio (I tolerated). Interesting to note that as the guy was hitting notes that guys normally don't hit, I began to notice that his voice took on similar traits in tone as the guys from Rush and Coheed & Cambria. I think it might be something of a technique to get a voice that high that requires a higher voice to start and is somewhat standardized amongst some artist who choose to sing higher. Just a thought. -Mike |
It's falsetto singing methinks.... Mehopes
|
That would be frightful if it was his real voice.
|
It's falsetto singing methinks.... Mehopes
After being a member of Chorus and Chamber Singers and having to sing tenor in falsetto and listen to it, I really don't think that's falsetto. I have a friend who has the biggest guy range ever - low bass to high soprano. Not kidding. This guy has pulled off high Cs that sopranos have a hard time with. Chrissakes, he sang the girl's part in "Phantom of the Opera"! Hearing him sing in his falsetto range equivalent to the Rush and Coheed & Cambria guys, I think they're in the natural voice. Yipes! -Mike |
Yikers +1. No mentioning Coheed & Cambria or Linkin Park in this thread. You're making it impure

Nice looking, and you can't go wrong with an F hole. I want a semi-hollow like a sheraton or something, but they're too expensive. Probably going to get an OLP MM1. I need a second guitar because I'm too lazy to change tunings. |
