By looking at the size of the thread in Video Games & Movies (oh, I mean "The Media Center" ) it seems really popular.

I really need some Dick's Picks, me loving them so much doesn't show in the amount of their material I have. I gave my friend The Closing of Winterland (burned CD from mine) for Christmas, and I'm gonna ask him for some of his bootlegs that I suspect he has, because I was talking to him one time and I was telling him how much Dead I saw on iTunes one time, and he said "Well, I've got stuff they'll never have <_< >_>"

Some of my friends in the grade above me have to make a film about the Shooting at Bastille or something for History, and one of them is bringing the "uncut" film over here today at 4:30, and I'm gonna help them edit it. He's a huge CR fan too, and I think we'll put a mix of crazily dramatic music in the slow-mo shooting scenes, and then have some classic rock in any other place we can fit it. I thought it would be great if we used Mexicali Blues for the credits  I also think if we decide to do a scene like it, that we have like really dramatic/fast/heavy music while we're showing the peasants charging or whatever, then immediately cut to a scene of two guys just standing around cluelessly, and have Flying off Magical Mystery Tour in the background, then cut back to the charging, then back to the two guys. Think the scene in Holy Grail where Sir Whatever keeps charging towards the castle and the two guards are just standing there, watching.

just to tell you guys, the woodsotck thing was labeled weird when i ripped it to my pc, so discs 1 2 and 4 are in the same folder and 3 is different one though, no biggy
Blood in movies = ++
Wow, how childish....

Why do most English speaking human beings of this generation have a thirst for violence? I love to see a fight just as much as anyone else does but blood in movies does not give a movie a plus at all. Maybe it's just our nature to be violent beings......or maybe it's the environment of which we were raised in. The question has always intrigued me.

Trenchtown Mix Up by the Gladiators is now my favorite Raggae album. You guys who are not subscribed to the mailing list really need to go to Other Music and drop down your e-mail address in the Raggae thread. If you like Raggae, Dub, or Ska you won't regret it. :thumb:

BigTrav415 01-28-2006 02:56 PM

Violence is inherent in humans. I think it's nature's way of being lazy and letting us do our own natural selection.

/bad joke

I'm booooooored, I should be working on my (two) projects, but I keep finding myself just looking at the clock and waiting for my friend to come. I have to write a rough draft of a short paper in English on a Columbian artist named Fernando Botero, then translate it into Spanish. I also need to do a bunch of notecards for my religion research paper for World Cultures (basically, write each fact from a source onto a seperate notecard, for three or four sources). Both of it is easy but long/tedious work. Both are due Wednesday, but my mom is really getting on my case to do them now, and I don't blame her; I have a history of seriously procrastinating :-/
Wow, how childish....
how is that childish?

and to answer your religion question, I was raised Methodist and I still kind of follow some of those beliefs.

Yeah I actually really hate violence. If there is violence in a movie I don't get all offended and disgusted though, like just fights and guns and stuff like that...but I'm not a huge fan of those gross horror movies. I get scared really easily too, I have too much of an imagination.

And thanks for the heads up about the Raggae thread! :thumb:

WelcomeToTheMachine 01-28-2006 04:15 PM

Woodstock is done, whoever wants it put there email up, i cant get it to send to the whole mailing list for some reason.

EDIT:: i got it.

blue3 01-28-2006 04:26 PM

Thanks for that.

robo2448 01-28-2006 04:28 PM

Yeah thanks a lot. I'm downloading it now.

And I've gotten some good stuff from that reggae list. I signed up a while ago for it.

And somebody comment on my Animals review- http://www.sputnikmusic.com/album.php?p=5030

None of you have commented on it yet :(

jpj 01-28-2006 04:30 PM

I signed up for it a couple weeks ago. So far I've gotten In the Light and In the Light Dub by Horace Andy and Trenchtown Mix Up.

I was thinking about that the other day. My friend said "Imagine what it would be like if filmmakers weren't allowed to show violence in films". Made me think a lot.

For one thing, Quentin Tarantino would be out of a job :smash:

jpj 01-28-2006 05:56 PM

I sent out the first two discs of a Grateful Dead bootleg. Did everyone get them?

MidnightRider 01-28-2006 06:15 PM
Did everyone get them?
Nope....UTvol48@aol.com

Could I possibly just be added to the mailing list?

Whoa! Where have you been?

fishbulb 01-28-2006 06:33 PM

Since this is 1854 pages long, i hope none of you expected me to read all of the previous posts, so i'm going to sound like a retard by repeating what others said.

All of my friends like classic rock, except one that likes german techno. Especially Zeppelin. All new music just sucks. The only new stuff i like is Dream Theater (i'm going to see them March 10)

Also, does anybody else like King Crimson, around in the sixties/seventies?

Well, you've started out better than most. At least, you acknowledged you're repeating what was said on the first page.
All new music just sucks.
See, this is where you went wrong, now you're just being an ignorant fool.

On another note, all discs of the Dead bootleg have been sent out.

You are are so right it all sucks. Nothing is good from any artist that is new. But then you like... Dream Theater... sorta ironic.
On the topic of violence I'm not too fond of graphic movies, but I do like my shooting movies and like EMH I really dig Quentin's films and gangster movies. But horror movies and slashers I just don't like at all.

I read it but I don't know what to say about it, its good. It made me want to listen to that album, so here I am listening to it. But I disagree with the 3/5 for Story of Bo Diddley, I actually like that song alot. Not sure why though its interesting. Plus I like Burdon's voice.
Ugh, I messed up my new account, time to make another.

fishbulb 01-28-2006 06:40 PM

Dream Theater is the only new band i like. I think most of it is just how good petrucci/portnoy are. The bassist isn't that bad, but the singer sucks. All he does is sing. Petrucci and Portnoy write the lyrics too.

jpj 01-28-2006 06:43 PM
You are are so right it all sucks.
NO! Stop it! The Mars Volta, moe., Widespread Panic, Opeth, Blues Traveler, Matisyahu, Fantomas, QOTSA, John Butler, Robert Randolph, String Cheese Incident, Porcupine Tree, Ben Harper, Wilco, just some of the wonderful artists releasing music nowadays.

fishbulb 01-28-2006 06:44 PM

Oh yeah, my bro gave me some Mars Volta, i should listen to that someday.

jpj 01-28-2006 06:44 PM
Oh yeah, my bro gave me some Mars Volta, i should listen to that someday.
Yes, yes you should.

fishbulb 01-28-2006 06:47 PM

The drummer has a cymbal that he calls a stack of totally busted metal on a cymbal stand. I've seen him play on it in a video too.

Krabsworth 01-28-2006 07:06 PM

Wtf...

MidnightRider 01-28-2006 07:16 PM
Wtf...
Haha, yeah that made me laugh.
Also, does anybody else like King Crimson, around in the sixties/seventies?
I do, In The Court of The Crimson King is one of my favorite albums.

robo2448 01-28-2006 07:18 PM
Opeth
What do these guys sound like? I know Magicbus likes them too, and I'm always interested in finding new bands. All I know is that they're metal.

Krabs I was thinking the same thing. Roger Daltrey really sucks because he just sings.

Well, these n00bs are actually more intelligent than most n00bs so we should go easy on them. But they should probably learn that singing takes talent, and new music does not suck. At least they didn't quote the first page and can type. That puts them above 95% of the n00bs.

PinkFreud 01-28-2006 07:19 PM

death cab for cutie, polyphonic spree, the arctic monkeys, electric six, mr. bungle, tomahawk, ...and you will know us by the trail of the dead, tool, liquid tension experiment, andrew bird, the arcade fire, rilo kiley, bear vs. shark, muse, buckethead, red hot chili peppers, john frusciante, sigur ros, the black crowes, glassjaw, head automatica, the strokes, gorillaz, sufjan stevens, weezer, the black keys, and death from above 1979 are some other great modern bands. theres a lot of good music still out there.

and yeah, i agree with krabsworth. what the hell do you want him to do?

Incense and Peppermints 01-28-2006 07:28 PM

Speaking of Weezer I dunno how many of you read the sputnik news what not but I guess they are covering the VU's Heroin, which is just dumb because I don't think River Cumo has anything (or any right) to say that even touches what Lou Reed sang about in that song.

Opeth are like a Progressive Metal band that has growling yet at the same time very good clean vocals. I don't know much about them but I do own Blackwater Park and their newest Ghost Reveries and can say for both of them they get a solid 4/5.

MBS 01-28-2006 09:11 PM

Who's Incense and Peppermints / Peggy Suicide?

Leper 01-28-2006 11:35 PM

Are you asking what the guy's name is, or what's the significance of his name?
