I really dont like u2 a whole lot , exept for the joshua tree which was an incredible cd, I cant stand their new stuff, theyve lost most of their alternative elements.

thickasabrick 01-27-2006 03:39 PM
I used to like U2 but lately everytime Bono has opened his mouth I've heard nothing but ignorance and arrogance come out.
That's ****ing bull**** and you know it. Admit it. You are just jumping on the bandwagon of ignorant rock elitist wannabes who like to pretend they know a lot about rock by saying that Bono is pretentious and an asshole. Have you actually heard nothing but ignorance and arrogance come out of his mouth? Because just about everything I've heard come out of his mouth has related to his contribution to aid in Africa, or his current music projects...and I don't see anything ignorant or arrogant about that. I have actually never ever seen Bono say or do anything that I would consider arrogant. And I'm pretty sure the mullet thing was just rumours and words taken out of context anyways. So why don't you use your own brain and opinions instead of just going by what you hear other people say?

And on the back cover of the book it said like 10 bucks, but I stole it from a used furniture store and it was also used. So it was probably worth like five bucks.

edit - I don't wanna sound like a prick, but I'm sick of tired of everyone saying that Bono is an asshole despite the fact that he's doing more for this world than any other musician on the planet.

Broken Arrow 01-27-2006 03:48 PM

Strange Days had a quite a few psychedelic songs in my opinion but I agree as they went on they turned their focus to blues instead.
Strange Days had a quite a few psychedelic songs in my opinion but I agree as they went on they turned their focus to blues instead.
I think Strange Days did have psychedelic aspects to it. A lot of the lyrics relate to psychedelia in some way. Songs like Strange Days, When the Music's Over and definitely Horse Latitudes have a psychedelic sound to them. I haven't listened to Strange Days in quite a while, maybe I'll do that right now.

Leper 01-27-2006 04:25 PM

Well I agree with you Thick that there are a lot of people who hate Bono for unjustified reasons, but I actually used to really like U2 until I heard some of the things he's said.

Another thing he said that just came to mind is that he thinks Imagine is a terrible song. He said that it is surreal and pointless or something like that. You could say, ok, that's just his opinion, as I'm sure he's not the only person in the world who doesn't like Imagine, but don't you detect just a hint of arrogance in that statement?

Broken Arrow 01-27-2006 04:26 PM

Track by Track Psychedelicness of Strange Days

Strange Days-Yes
You're a Lost Little Girl-Kind of, the guitar solo yes
Love Me Two Times-No
Unhappy Girl-Yes? I'd say it is psychedeldic pop
Horse Latitudes-No question
Moonlight Drive-questionable, the lyrics are, I say yes though
People Are Strange-Also questionable, I'd say yes again though
My Eyes Have Seen You-Not so much, debatable
I Can't See Your Face in My Mind-Yes, the marimba or whatever adds alot
When the Music's Over-No Doubt
To tell the truth...how hard would it have been for the doors to find a bassist?
/has read books about the Doors

I think it was Robby Krieger who said that a bass would just take away from the vibe and partnership of guitars and keyboards by adding an extra sound. They wanted it to be very simple.

robo2448 01-27-2006 05:42 PM

I think Strange Days is very psychedelic and very awesome. I think every song is definitely psychedelic except for My Eyes Have Seen You. Love that album.

I like U2 a lot. And I admire Bono for his charity work and singing. Call him arrogant, pompous, pretentious, whatever, but he seems sincere about trying to make the world a better place.

I'm about to post a review on The Animals Greatest Hits.

Wow, I would call that arrogant. I never heard him say that. I think Bono is probably quite bitter towards songwriters like John Lennon who are loved by everyone and known as wonderful humanitarians even though they really just wrote songs about peace and love and attended the odd love-in...they never actually got out there and tried to physically make changes happen through working with governments and charity groups day after day.

Bono doesn't really use his music to create change anymore, like Lennon did. Back in the day U2 did have political songs, but they were fairly subtle. If you actually looked at statistics I'm sure it would appear obvious that Bono has actually physically helped out the world more than Lennon did, but that's no reason for Bono to say mean things about songs like Imagine.

Personally, I've got nothing against Bono, but I'd rather see him become a politican or another form of social-leader than continue his seemingly half-hearted music career.

MBS 01-27-2006 06:22 PM

I think Bono would suit to be a better politician or a humanitarian than a musician.

thickasabrick 01-27-2006 06:30 PM
I think Bono would suit to be a better politician or a humanitarian than a musician.
I'd say so. I think he's just keeping his music career up and running because the cash comes in handy for all his charity work he does, and the celebrity status gets his charity more noticed. I could honestly care less though, either way is fine with me. If U2 put out a really good album I'd forgive him for not putting 100% of his time and effort into his humanitarianism.

I've been on a Bob Dylan debut album binge for the past two days. I've already listened to it three times today. I think I need help.

I agree completely. I never much liked anything U2 did, but the most recent stuff has been quite bad, I think.
I agree completely. I never much liked anything U2 did, but the most recent stuff has been quite bad, I think.
I absolutely adore just about all their earlier stuff. I think albums like War and The Joshua Tree are great to listen to. I can't really say the same for their newest stuff, I've really only heard the singles off their latest album but I wasn't too impressed.

edit- Oh yeah and this was what I've been dying to tell you guys about: So there is this rock radio station in my city called The Wolf. In it's new advertisement it has this ugly looking fella kinda just sitting there showing different facial expressions during various types of songs (obviously to show that he likes the songs that The Wolf plays). So anyways, one of the songs played is What A Feelin' by Crowbar (I think that's the title) and the guy starts pretending to throw up...then the song quickly changes to Back in Black and the guy starts smiling and nodding his head. Like what the hell is that? Worst advertisement ever.

JonG 01-27-2006 07:04 PM

I've never been a fan of U2. I could care less about them.

I don't like Bono because of his stupid goggles, and when he sings, he's pretty cocky. Lately, I mean.

I'm officially obsessed with the Dead again.

Blank 01-27-2006 07:31 PM

Im not a fan of U2...most of the music i've heard by them has just been catchy...meh.It's ok for others to like them though :thumb:

Oh and I guess no bass did make the guitar and keys blend well, but I still think a bass would have made it better, but hey,it's just my opinion.

NP-All along the watchtower-The Jimi Hendrix experiance

zabbit82 01-27-2006 07:45 PM

I like U2, I was obsessed with them back in the days of 6th grade or so. I honestly couldn't give more of a crap about how Bono is 'arrogent' or how they are so political, or how everyone hates them because they are politcal. It comes down to the music for me.

Having that said, I like their new album, it's good. If you disagree, oh well. Deal with it :)

I just got The Allmans Live at Fillmore East today. Its pretty sweet, then again, what ABB jam isn't?

gmoneyguy 01-27-2006 07:46 PM

I don't like them just because I can't get into their music.

jpj 01-27-2006 07:48 PM

The Allman Brothers are so amazingly amazing. For a little while, around the time I got DP 22 I liked the Dead more, but then the Instant Live I ordered came, so now ABB is undisputed favorite band again.
I don't like them just because I can't get into their music.
Because you suck at life.

NP: Allman Brothers - Whipping Post (Live)

This song is amazingly awesome, on Live at Fillmore. The 23 minute jamb goes on. They could have gone on for 6 hours on one song...

 Incredible....

Breaking news: Gregg Allman is, indeed, alive and well. JPJ may sleep at night.

Trios are all fine and dandy, Cream, Rush, Jimi Hendrix Experience, ELP, Ten Years After, but my two favorite bands are "big" bands.
Saucerfull of secrets is there most psychadelic album in my opinion.
Of all the psychedelic music I've listened to through-out my musical exploration, I think I can strongly say that Piper at the Gates of Dawn is positivly the most psychedelic album I've ever let pass through my ears.
I stole a book today....it was the first time I've ever actually stolen anything of worth. It was Malcom X's book, By All Means Necessary. I remember the first time I ever took something of value, it was a brand new bike and it was probably a Christmas present (since it was only a few days after the 25th) I still feel really bad about it too. (I dished it a day later)
Haven't seen you around lately, Schyma where you been?
I get online everyday, scan through conversation if I don't see anything that interests me I don't post and lately you guys have been either posting alot of spam or posting about bands that I'm not a fan of. MBS 01-27-2006 08:28 PM

Well, define power trio. Are you thinking like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Cream and all that jazz?

Blank 01-27-2006 08:29 PM

Nope.I love power trios.
But I also love other bands as well.
Don't think im a one band kind of guy :smash: :p

Edit-Mister Blue Sky,yeah.A power trio is a band with only 3 members,usually guitarist,bassist and a drummer.
