That song is about nothing, remember. Robert wrote it while high on something, that's for sure.
Hear Me Lord would be okay if not for Spector's production. I think Spector did a pretty good job on ATMP, but he messed up a couple songs, including that one.
Yeah, it sounds a little claustrophobic, but I like the part where the tempo speeds up all of a sudden and goes "Above and below us" *crash*

I think he said it was Moroccan weed. Possibly hash because I know in the Middle East the hash to weed ratio is like 20 to 1.

And I like Gotta Serve Somebody, but the Dylan and the Dead version is a hundred times better. The studio version doesn't have enough life in it.
My Sweet Lord is pretty cool. But I thik Spirit in the Sky by someone Greenbaum is great. Uh Joe? No. I can't think of it, but it was a one hit wonder. Sweet guitar in it.
That would be Norman Greenbaum, sweet song.
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?

This is the thread for general classic rock discussion.
Yah me to i luv classc rok, zepplns the best and the beetles

My favorite religion-related song would have to be God by John Lennon or My Sweet Lord, but thats already been said.

Badmoon 01-26-2006 08:28 PM
Favourite religion-related songs?
Billy Bragg & Wilco - Christ for President
Bob Weir - Greatest Story Ever Told
The Byrds - The Christian Life
The Byrds - Turn! Turn! Turn!
Grateful Dead - Samson & Delilah
Ry Cooder - Jesus on the Mainline
Ry Cooder - Married Man's a Fool
The Melodians - Rivers of Babylon
Johnny Cash - The Man Comes Around
Johnny Cash - Kneeling Drunkard's Plee
Matisyahu - Chop 'Em Down
The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace with God
Wilco - Jesus, etc
Woody Guthrie - Jesus Christ

Yea...good songs.

thickasabrick 01-26-2006 08:35 PM

Badmoon you probably know this alread, but did you know Woody Guthrie had written a bunch of songs that were never recorded, and while he was in the hospital he told Dylan that Dylan could use them...so Dylan walked to Guthrie's familys farm, and they couldn't find the seconds. And then later on Wilco came into possession of the songs and used them.

I read that in Chronicles, but it might be well-known info for Wilco fans. I'm not sure. But I thought it was a cool story. How things just get passed down.

edit - Damn the Pizza Tapes are good. Who all plays on those? Is it just Garcia and Rice? Oh right and Grisman. That's probably it then eh.

StreetlightRock 01-26-2006 08:53 PM
The Pogues - If I Should Fall From Grace with God
That entire album is great. I was listening to it all Christams. Only ever hear about them in the punk forum though.

JonG 01-26-2006 08:54 PM

Aren't all of Matisyahu's songs supposed to be religion-related?

Samson and Delilah is awesome live.

I made a recording.

My bad. I just thought with spelling that horrible you were some sort of gimmick.

Norman, yes thats right! I love the song.
The Pogues, in punk? I always just thought of them as Alt/Indie forum stuff, but I suppose punk would be the correct seeing as they are punk.

BigTrav415 01-26-2006 10:17 PM

Ugh, this thread moves too slow when I'm here, too fast when I'm not.

You guys left me off that corny 80's cartoon.

BigTrav: [goes on an impulse to make a rant about some stupid half-remembered post, probably unintentionaly ruining the good vibe after a great flamefest, and doesn't realize is wrong until poster points it for for him. Feels idiotic and not belonging in CR thread until Schyma takes time to make a response to me. Still feels like pariah of CR thread until someone put me as a regular for some reason :p Feels better, but still feels left out because is probably the only person in here who has no idea what I believe anymore. :upset: ]

That sounds about like me

Seriously, I have nothing to add to the whole religion thing. I feel so immature compared to most of you guys, honestly.

EDIT: But I can definitely say that Awaiting On You All is the best religion-y song EVAR.

By the way, has anyone in here ever heard of a band called The Lost Trailers? They are really good, not CR but a Southern, classic feel to them, but excellent lyrics and beautiful music. I might YSI Welcome To The Woods (my only album by them)

thickasabrick 01-26-2006 10:19 PM

My friend is two hours late picking me up. No one knows what the hell he does that makes him take so long...but I remember calling his house at 8:30 and his sister said he left already...and it's almost 10:30 now. It's a fifteen minute drive from his house to mine. He's at least two hours late every time he says he'll drive, and he always says he came straight over.

I did get to listen to all of Dust Bowl Ballads while I was waiting.

Broken Arrow 01-26-2006 10:24 PM

I just finished putting on all my music.

JonG I added all my Earlier GD Bootlegs there might only be about 8 because I only have the ones that are form '65-'71.

Blank 01-26-2006 11:29 PM

Ah man.
I've been going through a big Hendrix phase these days.
Eh....im starting to listen to alot of classic prog rock as well.
:D

BludgeonySteve 01-26-2006 11:33 PM

Classic prog is the best classic :). Yes, King Crimson, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Pink Floyd, Rush, Rush, The Doors, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Supertramp, etc.

Blank 01-26-2006 11:41 PM

Pink Floyd, the doors, rush and king crimson are probally my favorite prog bands :)

BludgeonySteve 01-27-2006 12:02 AM

Yes, I did say Rush twice on purpose.

Blank 01-27-2006 12:20 AM

Everybody in Rush is perfect at what they do.

Awesome band!:thumb:

Leper 01-27-2006 12:25 AM

This is the first time I've ever seen the Doors referred to as prog...

Blank 01-27-2006 12:28 AM

Well I wasn't gonna argue with him...I just went with the flow.

I've always thought they were psychedelic :-\

Leper 01-27-2006 12:37 AM

I always thought of them as psychadelic blues.
