This leads me to another question I've been wanting to ask this thread, we don't often cross the discussion of religion but I was just curious to know what's everyone's opinion on the topic of god. What do you really believe in? I was born and raised Catholic and lost faith around 12-13. I am currently really interested in the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama (aka "The Budda") I just like that it transcends a personal God, avoids dogmas and theology and focuses on meditation. (which I'm currently trying to do twice a day) I'm really curious to hear everyone's input on the topic, I mean we have been a stong community for almost 2 years now! (ani. March 16 or 17)
I'm Quaker by both birth and personal belief. I detest all forms of physical warfare, and believe very firmly in the saying that there's that of God in everyone. I believe in God, but I think the Bible is an interprative text that shouldn't be read word for word. That pretty much sums up my religious viewpoint. I'm agnostic, though I followed christianity very strongly when I was younger.
Today in school we were talking about what happens to bodies after being in a coffin for a certain amount of time. You basically just turn into a gooey mess and are unable to decompose. When I die, I wanna be cremated and have my ashes spread all over the world. NP: The Beatles - Blackbird |
Has anyone noticed how great of a song "Death of a Clown" by the Kinks is?The biggest risk in life is to taking no risks at all.....Being nervous always eventully leads to negative things, you just have to think to yourself that everything can and will go right and she/he won't know a damn thing and even if you get caught etc etc etc tl;dr

I was kinda born and raised Catholic...I was baptised, and went to church when I was very young. After my grandma died (I was around five), it was kind of a hassle for my family, so we stopped going. Nowadays, I find that religion is very flawed and hypocritical in some cases. I'm not saying I completely denounce Jesus, I'm just saying I don't think I've found the following that's right for me. I guess what I'm trying to say is....what I've found works best for me is to try to be kind to others, and basically be a good person my own way. If that makes sense. np: Lou Reed - Sally Can't Dance |

Np: Stormy Monday (Cream's version from the Royal Albert Hall)
That's pretty cool. I agree with your points (peace, Bible is interpretive...) I'm a member of the Presbyterian church, and confirmed. I never really go though. The minister there is a really great guy and cool to talk with. I had a discussion with him about religion and about how certain faiths kind of push beliefs on you like if you're not Christian you'll burn in hell and all that stuff... He's completely against pushing beliefs on people which is cool. So I kind of like my church's beliefs even if I rarely attend church. 10:00 is too early for me on a weekend. But yeah, all that close-minded dogmatic religious practices stuff doesn't appeal to me at all. |
Creedence Clearwater - Left, because we talked about CSNY a lot.
No, no, no. He just left one day. Mightyquinn left because we talked about CSNY too much. I was born and raised Catholic but when I turned 14, I just quit going to church. Except Christmas and Easter. Except Christmas this year, my family went on Christmas Eve and I was working. :-/ |
I was born and raised Catholic. I never regularly went to church.
Med, I like your user-title. |

I don't do religion I could careless whether or not their is a greater whatever, and I could careless about peoples beliefs as long as they don't step on my toes.
Just got home from doing a choir tour. :S 6 different schools 7 songs. Thats alot of singing :S |

It scares me that more people have died in the name of someone who preached peace then any other man ever. |
I was born and raised Catholic. I never regularly went to church.
Same, except I go to church. My parents make me go.
|
I was a baptized Catholic, and went to church. Stopped at around the age of 10 and started to question my beliefs. I don't really follow any religion, I just have my own ideas about how things work. I do believe in a God, though.
After all, ideas are easier to change than beliefs. |
A House Is Not A Motel is probably my faovrite Love song, the whole Forver Changes album is amazing
|
Yeah so to slightly change the subject, The Beach Boys are fu'cking amazing.
|
I worship Led Zeppelin.

My dad comes from a devout Catholic (Italian) family, but my parents never forced any religion on me. My stance now is that I really don't know anything about theology, higher power, God, etc. I'm just going where life takes me.
I just bought Hundred Year Hall, on an unrelated note. |
I was just thinking what a great song Lay Down Sally is. Anyone disagree?

It's good, a nice song for the radio to play. I like that kind of psuedo-country music. |
Yeah, it's got that certain sound that basically makes it accessible to fans of any genre. Well not every genre, but like rock, blues, country, etc.
|
You'll let me steal it off Soulseek sometime?
Definitely, whenever you want it. As of right now (up to TOYLL on disc 1) this album is amazing. |
I've just seen Deep Purple, and they are good. Gillian still has a great voice, only con was that they didn't play Child In Time, but they did play Hush :)
|
Cool. I can't remember the whole set list.. but I know they didn't play Lazy so that sucked.
|
I just read like 8 pages of arguing with Mr. X and theology discussion. My head hurts. I have a ton of homework, wtf?
I've seen Deep Purple, it was cooooooooooooooooool. |

They played Lazy here :) less of the new but still no Child In Time :( |
To Lunch: Awsome album choice, I'm such a huge fanboy for Hundred Year Hall.
As for religion my belifs are kinda complex and isn't an organized religion, but more of my own personal belifs. I belive that we all have a soul and we are all connected through that soul to create a collective unconsciance (i know I misspelled that) and our soul is all of the same entity and that entity is God. In other words the part of us that is greater than what we can see is God and we are all God, or at least a part of it. Just a theory it may change but at this point I'm happy with it. |

Right away I start thinking of Gotta Serve Somebody, and Gospel Plow...I suppose most Bob Marley is religious too. What are some of your favourites? When The Man Comes Around is another good one. |
Hear Me Lord by George Harrison. That is a freakin' cool song.
|
Stairway To Heaven
/runs |
I don't particularly like Gotta Serve Somebody. Or Hear Me Lord for that matter.
Awaiting On You All has great lyrics. So does P2 Vatican Blues (Last Saturday Night). My Sweet Lord. Lots of George songs. Hear Me Lord would be okay if not for Spector's production. I think Spector did a pretty good job on ATMP, but he messed up a couple songs, including that one. |
My Sweet Lord is pretty cool. But I thik Spirit in the Sky by someone Greenbaum is great. Uh Joe? No. I can't think of it, but it was a one hit wonder. Sweet guitar in it.
