i noticed you didnt list harddrive speeds. hopefully you at least got 10k rpm drives. that's most likely where your bottleneck will be, not the processor and ram speeds lol
Raptor system drive was listed, as in 10K Raptor 74GB. The other 2 drives are 7200RPM 1TB Caviar Greens.

Also, no point having fast drives as storage, and theres barely any point to having fast drives for gaming either, since RAM and VRAM holds almost all the data during gameplay. HDD speed only affects how fast the RAM can be populated, IE initial loading times.

And thanks to win7's superfetch and improved RAM handling, thats not an issue. Most games utilize a lot of pre-emptive streaming now too, so again, HDD speeds = Not a huge factor in bottlenecking except for when you're loading the OS, which is what the Raptor drive is for.
How do you people afford that kind of shit?

I reckon if I stopped drinking I might be able to afford something like that, but, I really like drinking, so I'll make do.
Having a real job?

SBT GO TO GRAD SCHOOL FOR ME

Sad But True 05-10-2010 11:50 AM

I'd rather that than live on some shitty dead-end job for an appalling hourly wage.

Living in mediocrity is downright miserable.

Or, I could carry on being a student.

Squirrel 05-10-2010 12:58 PM

Aren't you bored of that life? haven't you been doing it for like 6 years now or something?

Don't you find it embarrassing to be into your 20's and only slightly beyond the stage when you left school?

Not particularly, no. I worked for 3 years to afford the things I've wanted and do the things I've wanted, and now I'm at uni studying to become a teacher. I couldn't give a flying monkey shit how old I am when I do it; I get to spend 3-4 yeas more enjoying my life rather than settling down into a job and a life that I don't want just yet.

Squirrel 05-10-2010 01:36 PM

So you're on a PGCE course?

The nature of your reaction indicates a very passionate feeling about this. i'm guessing I hit the nail on the head and you post is an attempt at jazzing up the fact that, correct me if i'm wrong, you flunked uni 2 or 3 times, hence why you have "3 or 4 more years of doing it" and why you "worked to afford the things you wanted".

This translates to: worked as a till moneky or something until you reapplied or whatever.

You don't sound like you're on a teaching course, given that when you are you quickly note you don't study to be a teacher, you train to be one, and you do not, under any circumstances, live like a student while you're training cause they're unbelievably demanding. Much more so than "settling down into a job", cause they dominate your entire life, all day, every day, and every night.

So yeah i'm calling bullpoop you're totally jazzing that **** up.

JCBitB 05-10-2010 02:01 PM

Squirrel sounds like the type to lean over and tell you "you're doing it wrong" at a public urinal...

Squirrel 05-10-2010 02:05 PM

Squirrel sounds like a guy who actually finished uni and actually has teaching experience.

oh so you don't use it for accessing samples or anything like that. gotcha

If you may say so yourself... It's ok tho, being a prick isn't illegal, so do your thing and enjoy yourself I s'pose

Squirrel 05-10-2010 02:29 PM

Well its kinda relevant when comparing to someone whos taken like 6 years to get even reomtely near getting a degree or sth, and trying to jaaz up the fact they may sort of want to possibly think about maybe doing teaching, by saying theyre "studying for teaching"

Squirrel 05-10-2010 02:29 PM

...if you may say so yourself. If you hadn't gone to uni you might have missed out on this awesome opportunity

You lie in the bed you make, and it's up to each person to make up their minds for themselves. He's decided his pace, and so he'll have to live with the budget repercussions. You just look stupid trying to pull underlying motives and deficiencies out of a paragraph of text on the Internet. To me, you look like an insecure prick talking for your own benefit. I mean, are you expecting to convince HIM you're so much better off? I doubt it...

Squirrel 05-10-2010 02:52 PM

Actually no cause im not pulling anything out of the text i know what the real deal is as he's posted it before hence why i know what he typed today was bull
oh so you don't use it for accessing samples or anything like that. gotcha
I do, but theres no point to going to a faster drive. A good 7200RPM drive has been more than enough for 90% of DAW programs for years, and 10K SCSI drives have always been temperamental, required too much cooling, been too noisy, and generally been unworkable. I'm not aware of any suitably high capacity 10K SATA drives beyond raptors and those are only 300GB max anyway, on top of being ludicrously expensive for a very small benefit.

10K drives totally aren't worth it for the minimal performance benefits they offer, and the only reason I even bothered with the raptor i have is because it was on sale and the heavy use an OS drive gets goes some way to justifying the drawbacks, because it results in an entire system feeling more responsive, rather than just reducing load times by a tiny amount on some program that isn't going to be used all the time or even take up the bulk of the workload on the PC.

JCBitB 05-10-2010 03:00 PM

Rofl... I'm not taking anything seriously pal. Oblivious people make me laugh, that's all

Like I said, do your thing and walk your walk, but you shouldn't be so concerned about proving to others that your life is exactly how you like it. If you believe it yourself, it should be good enough. :chug:

Squirrel 05-10-2010 03:03 PM

im calling someone out for being a tard then trying to sugar coat it so gtfo out of here with that pseudo philosophical ****

im not oblivious at all, i know exactly what youre on about but i didnt invite you into this conversation (nor this thread, for that matter) so get outta here man and read the ****ing forum rules
