Phil, you really started something with those cat pics.

The Chemist 04-03-2007 09:07 AM

I'm thinking about buying a new set today.

I'm lookin for a replacement for my AAX Stage Ride

I'm thinking either a HH Raw Bell Dry Ride or a Jojo Mayer Fierce Ride.

Jezen 04-03-2007 09:13 AM

Oh man i'm rubbish at left foot clave :(

I'm working on playing this ostinato:

RH|x-xxx-xxx-xxx-xx|
RF|o--o--o-o--o--o-|
LF|x--x---x--x-x---|

And then playing all the permutations over that with my left hand and orchestrating that too.

Can't do it! It's too hard!

What is it with the left foot clave? We drummers need something new to master, everybody's doing the left foot clave now. Not that it's a bad thing, but it just seems like we should explore some new areas.

Retarded Chipple 04-03-2007 09:23 AM

Like cross stick clave?

I know what you mean, and I have the same qualm with the whole left foot clave thing. It's a shame that these sorts of things can be "fashionable" on an instrument, just like how at the moment it's fashionable to set your kit up with everything far too low, and completely flat.

I find it necessary for me though, as I am actually in a working latin band. I didn't need it before, because I primarily played timbales, but now the conga player (who was a really really excellent percussionist) has moved to Wales, and the drummer is abit on and off, and (without being bigheaded) my drumkit facility significantly surpasses his, so now the lineup has pretty much changed from congas, drums, and timbales, to just me by myself.

Actually it reminds me of a clinic story someone was telling me..

At the Q&A of an El Negro clinic, a man stands up and asks "Horacio, when did you first realise it's fashionable to play left foot clave?"

Horacio Hernandez stands there.. very puzzled. "I don't understand? You wanna know how long I been playing?!"

Then another man stands up and addresses the first man "Umm.. You do realise that Horacio Hernandez is from Cuba!!"

Little Android Man 04-03-2007 10:03 AM

off to the music store.....

again.

Jezen 04-03-2007 10:29 AM

So i've been trying to get into The Mighty Boosh... And I can't because it just really isn't that funny.. :-/

Berk 04-03-2007 10:40 AM

So I came home from school. damn cold.

I was in music class and we had like 5 minutes to play whatev. So me and bass guy started playing Dance Dance. Its was pretty hardcore.

Berk 04-03-2007 10:54 AM

MNdrummer21 04-03-2007 10:55 AM

Ah, I see your reasoning for using it BB. Got any audio of said band? I'd certainly like to give it a listen if you do.

2G is a taper size, yeah.

It'd be exactly 6.0mm

--Story--

I was walking around outside sunday, talking to my girl(we talked all day =]), and I found a stray cat. Nicest stray ever! She looked clean, acted nice, I'da said she belonged to someone but she had no ID. Anyways, we decided to name her, so we called her Apollo(lol) after a C&C album. Anyway, the kitty was really nice, and she kept playing with me to the point where I got too distracted. My girl started getting jealous, but not seriously. And then the cat walks through my legs a couple times, brushing up real close to me. Soon as I say that, my girl's like "You tell that kitty to back off, Vince!"

I don't know why, I thought it was a funny story that I should type up.

Berk 04-03-2007 11:14 AM

Damn, You get more from a cat than your girl?

Im thinking of 24" and 22" for my cymbal set-up. Idk.
