I saw a Black Sabbath box set for sale at a music store - "Under Wheels Of Confusion 1, 2, 3 & 4" whats good about it, whats bad about it? i know it covers a large era of Sabbath so obviuosly more than just Ozzy and Dio. advise? think its about NZ$60 which i think is about US$30 - $40 good buy or not?

rippa32 11-08-2005 05:55 AM

Ive never heard of it. Is it a best of set?

And someone try to answer my trivia, I am quite proud of these.

Brew 11-08-2005 11:07 AM
This thread is dying again. Trivia again. Two questions.

What Deep Purple singer was originally intended to sing on Tony Iommi's original solo album?

Who was actually playing with Tony but not considered a member of Black Sabbath because there was no band at the time?
Ian Gillan?

I'm not sure about the other one, I have a feeling its a singer though from around 1985...?

To the guy who asked about the box-set - from what I've seen of it, it looks like a pretty good buy if you're just getting into Sabbath.

Sounds like an unofficial compilation someone has thrown together, but it cant be any worse than the "best of" black sabbath

I had a chance to get the best of that was made in the 70s awhile ago but i didnt realise what it was so i didnt :upset:

:)

shadow_stalker 11-08-2005 11:24 AM

That looks kind of like it, i here it is rather rare aswell

Brew 11-08-2005 11:25 AM

I've only ever seen it on cd once, and a few times on vinyl.

Useless fact: It was the first Sabbath album I took from my Dad's collection, before he gave me all of them.

shadow_stalker 11-08-2005 11:28 AM

ah well im sure i will live without it, afterall i have paranoid so what other sabbath albums do i need?:p

Brew 11-08-2005 11:31 AM

You need this ULTRA RARE version of Volume.4 with its ULTRA RARE cover.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v196/Lord_Brummington/sabvol4.jpg

shadow_stalker 11-08-2005 11:37 AM

Wow i want that, its sad to think that that is still better than alot of artwork you get

(i saved the picture onto my comp)

Six Foot Revolver 11-08-2005 11:53 AM

Gotta hate the vol. 4 cover.

Brew 11-08-2005 02:12 PM
Gotta hate the vol. 4 cover.
My version is better

rippa32 11-08-2005 05:53 PM

Ill answer the first question. It was David Coverdale, the third Deep Purple singer.

blue3 11-09-2005 02:24 AM

That ultra rare cover is pretty awesome.

rippa32 11-09-2005 03:36 AM

Hehe yeah, good one brum, I really enjoyed that.

Brew 11-09-2005 09:20 AM

Its ULTRA RARE.

Almost like an ULTRA KILL.

/unreal tournament

Jude 11-09-2005 11:17 AM

This isn't Sabbath related, but Brum, I'm about to steal your avatar. I just watcehd The Two Towers the other weekend and we've been in love with that scene ever since.

Brew 11-09-2005 02:32 PM

Fair doo's.

I have a bigger version of it aswell if you want.

rippa32 11-09-2005 05:38 PM

Well seeing as this thread is going along nicely again. Ill answer the second trivia question. It was Jeff Fenholt, very hard actually. If you wanna know more about this guy go to the line-up page on www.black-sabbath.com

666Ozzfan 11-09-2005 09:47 PM

ok, well i bought the set, it covers Sabbath from Jun68 (lineup = Ozzy, Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, and Tony Iommi) till Jun88. in this time, Sabbath had 12 different lineups. the box set contains a "family tree" and shows how and where band members came from/went to. for example "after a day of drinking, Ian Gillian woke up to find he'd agreed to become sabbaths new singer" :p

so far, sounds good, especially like the later stuff, haven't really herd much of it before

666Ozzfan 11-09-2005 10:37 PM

Ooh, i dont know if this has alredy been done, but what was Sabbath ORIGINALLY known as?

Kronos 11-10-2005 03:16 AM
Ooh, i dont know if this has alredy been done, but what was Sabbath ORIGINALLY known as?
Well, it was Earth before Black Sabbath, but before that it was something Earth, and before that something daft with Pulk or something in the title...but I can't recall what.:upset:

rippa32 11-10-2005 05:28 AM

Polka Tulk, I am so smart, I am so smart S M R T, I mean S M A R T, hehe love that line.

Anyhoo I heard that Gillan story too, thought it was hilarious. So do you like the non-ozzy stuff better do you? So does brum. Hey that's funny considering your username. Oh and welcome to the forums.

Kronos 11-10-2005 06:23 AM

I'm just a total Dio-whore.
Dio>Ozzy>Gillan

Gillan - don't get me started - I hate Born Again with a passion I normally reserve for French cheese.

Sounds like a good buy mate.

anyone ever read the book 'Paranoid'? on the cover it says glory days with sabbath and other hard rock bands (or something like that), it hardly mentions sabbath most of the book is about the authers addiction to drugs!

Yeh i'm an avid Ozzy fan, and i'd just never really heard Sabbath since Ozzy, so it makes an interesting change. not sure if i like it better, but its certainly up there.

for those of you who want 2 checkout the playlist, see http://www.music.com/release/under_wheels_of_confusion:_1970-1987/1/
although it doesnt say which songs go with which album...

666Ozzfan 11-10-2005 06:14 PM

Martin>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>all other sabbath singers
My personal order is Ozzy>Dio>Martin>Gillan(only because his work with Purple is better), dont really know about Hughes. Also what is wrong with the Born Again album RumBoy?

On another note, I am looking out to buy some Black Sabbath albums on vinyl, if I find a brand new one, sealed and all that. Is it possible the sound on it would be remastered?

Brew 11-12-2005 04:01 AM

In 2002 (I think) the Ozzy era albums were re-released on vinyl, I'm not sure if they were remastered or not though.
