Are you restricted to pitching the ball in a certain style? Cos you could easily break that speed if you pitched it like a softball or bowled it like in cricket.

hardly

my pitching coach has the pitching motion broken down into a science.
I asked him the same question, and from 60 ft, you get the most velocity from overhand. Imagine a rubber band.

Not to mention its shit easy to hit a flat pitch at 90, but really hard to hit a downward 83 mph pitch.

Also, you are much more restricted underhand in terms of types of pitches (fastball, changeup, curve ball, slider, knuckle, slurve, fork, split-finger)

I dunno. I'm sure your pitching coach is acquainted with the idea of a trebuchet. Catapulting the ball garners a lot of momentum, but it is really inefficient. And I'm pretty sure that softball pitches are over a similar distance.

I used to be like 6'1 255 when I was 15, lol. Since burley is a great word to use, I'll say I am a big burley manly man at 17 now :) I just lost 35 lbs and grew 3 inches.

softball is just below 40 feet i think
ironically my sister is a softball pitcher...

and we know how inefficient it is, but its not like we have a choice when half the kids you play against are on steroids

NemesisDivina 04-10-2008 08:39 PM

I'm like 6'1, 200lbs or something close. Probably closer to 205, not sure.

dude, i was being completely serious...thanks anyway though

Riva 04-10-2008 08:42 PM

Yeah, a lot of kids who play the high-paying sports in high school get REALLY competitive, cos they think they'll make a career of it. My maths teacher was explaining statistics once, and he said "Put your hands up if you play Rugby League". After a dozen people had put their hands up, he said "Keep them up if you want to play it professionally". Around 6 people kept their hands up. My teacher then went on to prove the chances of those 6 making it to the national league, and it worked out to be a 0.00000005/6 chance or something. So basically a few follicles of hair from one of those kids would make it to the NRL. :p
Matt you coming to Powerfest?
I'd really really like to, but unfortunately my brother doesn't have the same enthusiasm as me to go... so probably not since he's really my only ride. :(

I'll definitely 150% for sure be at Candlemass next month though :)

Is that like a circle pit, except everyone is really morose and keeps their arms crossed?
