ok i found out that lars ulrich isnt the guitarist but why do people say hes the drummer if its this dude

http://www.metallicaworld.co.uk/images/early/early30.jpg

people say lars has brown hair but the drummer doesnt have brown hair

so that means lars is either the bassist or singer
YOURE RIGHT!!! if you have garage inc., look at the drummer. That's lars.I think thats a picture of hetfield F***ing around though.

First off, great thread! I don't go to the forums much but when i saw this one i had to check it out. I love all different kinds of music from reggae to Beethoven but Metallica is my favorite by far. They inspired me to start playing guitar. My best friend introduced me to them when I was 8 yrs old, a little after Justice came out, and I've been a die-hard fan ever since. I too, am one of the unfortunates to have never seen them live, and I've tried so hard to do it. My best chance was last year in Seattle, but I joined the air force and my entry date was moved up so i couldn't see them. Now i'm in korea, and next year i'll be in italy so i may have a little trouble seeing them any time soon which so bums me out. to the others out there that haven't been to a live show i greatly recommend getting the Live Sh*t and Cunning Stunts sets, it's probably as close as you can get without actually being there. Again, awesome thread, and ROCK ON!!!!

Yep, that's James. If you check out the San Diego concert in the Live Sh*t set, James and Lars have kind of a drum duet.

Iplaythegeeeeetar! 08-30-2004 11:14 PM

cool, i gotta pick that up sometime.

The Bell Tolls 08-31-2004 11:39 AM

i've seen it, lars shouted at james "my 3-year-old son can do better than that and i dont even have a son" after jamming.

Khaoticwarchild 08-31-2004 02:16 PM

Metallica is one of the alltime best bands ever....
I can only see a couplke of bands better than they are, such as

Led Zepplin, Black Sabbath, and Jimi Hendrix

Better Than You 08-31-2004 02:28 PM

I haven't been a metallica fan for long, but I just this they're so awesome for their ability to write multiple styles of music, i.e. master of puppets, nothing else matters, and some kind of monster

drummer/huge metallica fan 08-31-2004 02:40 PM
right before they started playing So What they we playing the intro to Bleeding Me and everyone (especially me) went crazy...i love that song, but it was a welcome suprise to hear So ****ING What

and i guess Rob did have a couple solo's...a really nice one that tied into For Whom The Bell Tolls
:chug: i really like bleeding me. i wish they played it more often. The s&m version kicked ***

man S&M totally kicks *** i bought it (kinda expensive) but if u have money lying around totally buy it (or borow itfirst to hear it) it's really cool. Only bad thing is Hetfield's new-style vocals they still sound good but i dont really like them on Master of Puppets. Still though very good. :thumb:

hmm you didnt like master of puppets? i thought i was pretty good because they stopped playing the whole song around 93. if you've seen the other live dvd's ,except the cliff em all and 89 show on live **** binge and purge, they just stop at the master master....and then it draines out and it supposed to go to the little interlude and then the twin guitar solo. but, on the S&M they actually do the whole song witch i thought was great. refreshing! i also enjoyed that no leaf clover song. the orchastra really brought out the power of it.

chronosquall 08-31-2004 09:30 PM

god u all talk of nonsense lol just kidding. since its on teh topic of seein em live i happened to see em live back in march.......F**king INSANE IT WAS!!!!!! **** we just had a new arena built here and them and godsmack came as tour group you know and godsmack got everyone pumped then OMG metallica owned the freggin city. FRESNO, CALI yeah ok......we had this thing up on teh wall saying how many decibels it got to. if anyone has heard the song "one" you would have heard the bombs in the intro of the song. if you havent heard that song you need to get slapped!!!!!! *slaps all the ppl who havent heard one* anyways it got up to like 195 decibels .....IT WAS AWESOME!!!! pyro everywhere and when ur in the 4th row its alot louder!! it was insane. but yeah neways im done

Hitroshimite 08-31-2004 09:30 PM

Eh, the S&M thing was kinda cool, but I think the symphony spoiled a lot of the songs (especially Master).

Also, the set-list was really bad. Way too much stuff from the loads.

Metallica are finished. Kill em all they were one of the best new bands around. It was the start of a new genre, Thrash/Speed Metal. Ride The Lightning and Master of Puppets are some of the best metal albums of all time, if not in any genre. After the black album they were the biggest hting in rock/metal. *STOP EVERYTHING*. in 1992 metallica are on the road to being one of the best bands of all time. After load/reload, metallica are continuing this line. Experimentation is always good. Metallica STILL are on the road to being one of the best bands of all time.

At this point everything goes wrong for them. Their bassist quits. james is in rehab. They release two safe bet albums, S&M and garage inc (the cover one). Then they try to return to their former glory. They promised an album as good as the 80's ones. If they had pulled it off, they would have been hands down one of the best bands of all time. BUT instead they scrap the solos and make a mistake with production (that crappy snare).

They may still redeem themselves though. A few more excellent albums may make up for St. Anger.

The Bell Tolls 09-01-2004 11:12 AM

I have heard that they will start recording the new album in december or january 2005

No, not at all.

The Black Album was the defining point in their career when theyd "sold out", as most put it.

Load and Reload werent accepted well at all, infact they lost a lot of their hardcore fanbase.

Jason leaving wasnt bad for them because he was hindering their progress because to be frank, they hated him.

The "safe bet" albums, as you put it, werent that way at all; Metallica and a Symphony was greeted by cynical reviews and sharp looks, then their only release in many years was just covers .. quite a few of which were done 10 years previous. Both these albums werent received very well either.
