Lord Abortion 01-04-2006 05:01 PM

That metalcore thread was asking for trouble...

Aw3someman 01-04-2006 05:02 PM

A long convo? b/c a lot of ppl talk about different bands in specific band threads

Illmatic 01-04-2006 05:09 PM

I noticed a pattern in the Metalcore thread:
1) People making [misguided, from what I can tell] definitions of metalcore
2) Actual metalcore fans going "NUH UH WHAT ARE YOU, RETARDED?" instead of actually explaining it

Shadows 01-04-2006 05:13 PM
Makes... sense? <-<
The people around the CoB thread happened to start talking about Avenged Sevenfold, and no one in there (including myself admittedly) seems to like them.

Ad Absurdum 01-04-2006 05:24 PM
For graduation (in June) my parents said they would get me the guitar of my choice. Of the guitars mentioned below, which one would you recommend.

Flying V:
That's an organ piece, how could a guitar possibly do it justice?

Anyway mock exams were ok today. English I did acceptably and in German and Bioligy I managed to answer everything. Tomorrow I have maths, history and German. German will be pretty easy but history and maths will be pretty difficult I think :/ It's too late for more revision now though.

NP: Bach - Toccata and Fugue in d minor
I play it on classical, I think you can do it alot more justice on classical than the electric version that some people play. Good to hear your exams are going well, good luck with the rest.

I wanted to watch The Grudge tonight but I had to format a few of my sister's essays for uni instead, so I ended up missing the showing :(

NP: Entombed - 'Clauses' (I started liking this album, even though it's totally different to Left Hand Path)

gmoneyguy 01-04-2006 05:34 PM

Ahhhh yes I finally got my computer desk and chair put together, all of which done on 0 hours of sleep :thumb:

NP: Last Breath - Norther

Good job. :thumb:

Goddamn, Macs have a limited supply of free programming/emulating downloads...

Eh, my friend's got Fruity Loops, and I have a semidecent guitar setting...I guess most of it works out. :)

Silenius 01-04-2006 05:46 PM
The guys in teh CoB thread?

I dislike the band, but I have reasons other then "they look emo".
Hehe, that wouldn't be me would it?

Seriously though, CoB aren't like the greatest band ever (nor is Alexi god), but they a lot more enjoyable to listen to than A7X for me. The whole hype about A7X and their egoistical interviews (not to mention ridiculous quotes like "We want to make badass music that will appeal to Christian kids who are rebelling"-From RockHard magazine) make me dislike them. (And their music isnt as great as it is made out to be.)

I personal find the guitar work and vocals annoying in A7X, but thats just my opinion.

CoB, were great when i first got into metal, but now I have to be in a CoB mood to listen to them.

gmoneyguy 01-04-2006 06:24 PM

Apart from having scary looking kids with black hair, I can't think of anything. I'm not saying it was a bad film, but not something to be very sad about when you have just missed it.

Apocalyptic Raids 01-04-2006 06:38 PM

GenuineImitation: Out of those, the Soloist.

I would love a Rhoads, though.

Lord Abortion 01-04-2006 07:07 PM

Ah, but it's no longer my Birthday.

By my time, anyway.

I managed to get alot of music on my Zen.
I'm still without alot of the over 499mb bands(capacity of my USB stick), like Dream Theater, Maiden and Cradle.
Never mind...I'll have them done tomorrow.

Problem with defining genres is that people don't want to change what their perception of a genre is. It's usually just set in stone.

gmoneyguy 01-04-2006 07:16 PM
Problem with defining genres is that people don't want to change what their perception of a genre is. It's usually just set in stone.
Or they have the ingorant belief that certain genres mean the band sucks, so they'll try to classify their band under a different genre.

Jom, or anyone for that matter, how long will it take for my first review on Sputnik to receive mod approval?

Cain 01-04-2006 08:19 PM
Jom, or anyone for that matter, how long will it take for my first review on Sputnik to receive mod approval?
You need mod approval for a first review?

Deth 01-04-2006 08:20 PM

It said that for mine, but it went straight up.

Ace_of_Bass2112 01-04-2006 08:20 PM

yes. if my memory prooves me right 24-48 hours

jpj 01-04-2006 08:22 PM

That's the message that I received.

EDIT: It's up :)

ATM 01-04-2006 08:28 PM

Evening, all.

What's new in MX land?

Jom 01-04-2006 08:32 PM

It takes as long as it takes for us to review it and make sure it's a legit review. You have no idea how many reviews we've rejected (between Med, Damrod, and myself, and I've only had this gig for a bit) because they were so unsatisfactory.

So, since your review didn't suck, I put it through the queue.

jpj 01-04-2006 08:35 PM
So, since your review didn't suck, I put it through the queue.
Well, I'm flattered :)

Jom 01-04-2006 08:39 PM

Honest to God, I had this for an album review:
this album sux & so does Curt Kobain [note: I swear to you, that's exactly how it was written] u kno what had more brains than Curt Kobain? the wall behind him lol
It was seriously three sentences long and made a repetitive Nirvana joke.

So, you can imagine why I didn't put that one through the queue, aside from there being 20834502832 reviews for that album already.

jpj 01-04-2006 08:45 PM

 It's stuff like that that makes me glad I'm not a mod. At least idiots are good for a laugh.

I didn't think the mods would actual read the entire thing. I figured they just like spot checked it.

Jom 01-04-2006 08:49 PM

When I have a chance (which is pretty often), I go through the in-queue reviews and do a spell check and grammar check. I then leave them for the other guys to put through or reject.

But, I also get to decide first-time reviews' fates when they're not around :-D

Watchman 01-04-2006 09:01 PM

The 40 Year Old Virgin is really too long for what it is. So long, in fact, that even it's having Catherine Keener cannot keep me awake any longer, and I'm turning it off.

I sat through King Kong easily, though. In an uncomfortable cinema, too. It was only when the planes at the end flew around for a little too long that I realised I'd already been there for 180 minutes.

Ace_of_Bass2112 01-04-2006 09:33 PM

you know how i know your gay. your dick taste like shit

Gilmour 01-04-2006 09:41 PM

I enjoyed 40 year old Virgin. But when it comes to being funny, the new version of The Producers blows it away. They made the smallest things in there hilarious, like Leo's nervous breakdowns.

magicbus 01-04-2006 09:49 PM
you know how i know your gay. your dick taste like shit
That is my favorite part of the movie

TheDMV 01-04-2006 09:50 PM

Anyway, for the past couple of days everytime I hear a song in my head the word 'man' is inexplicably replaced with 'mang.' I think I want to die.

NP: Ryan Adams - 29
I can't stop saying mang. :(

MidnightRider 01-05-2006 01:50 AM

I hear you DMV, if USC would have won I would have to hear it from my bandwagon jumping friends the rest of the year.

TojesDolan 01-05-2006 02:16 AM

Yeah so talking about queues, I trimmed a little bit the "Death",, you know, the band, the little text that goes above the whole reviews thing because it was obviously a copy-paste.

It needs another trim, though, but I'll have to check it once it passes the queue.

superpeer 01-05-2006 07:13 AM

Why would having Catherine Keener be such a good thing?

I enjoyed that film, anyway, it was good.
But, I also get to decide first-time reviews' fates when they're not around :-D
Oh my! The mod power is overwhelming!
Sputnik is expanding at a frightening pace. Seriously, a week ago people were complaining that there'd only been one or two submissions on a certain day. Today alone there's been about thirty, four of which I've read.
I've recently started going to Sputnik and I'm kind of disappointed both about the amount of (underground) metal reviews and the amount of comments in general.
