Thats cool

Guess what guys. I may become the new guitarist for a band at my high school. What makes this super sweet is that they are opening up for Dream Theater and Spocks Beard in August.

If I get this position, you will be seeing less of me until the gig.

Im off to work on my chops. Peace...
I thought DT was going on vacation for the summer?

GenuineImitation 04-02-2006 07:36 PM

Yeah, but its a local one night kind of thing. Its going to be in Hauppauge, a town or two from where Petrucci and Myung grew up.

It's always so hard to take pictures when you're not in the front row. Use the flash and either people's heads light up in front of you or the stage is too dark; use without the flash and the picture's blurry.

My upload speed blows, so maybe tomorrow I'll YSI some video clips.
Cool pics. Man, I can't wait for that DVD.

ghettoeddo 04-02-2006 10:39 PM

geniune, why does life rock so much for you? go to the DT DVD show and then get the opportunity to open for dream theater. YOU GET TO OPEN FOR DREAM THEATER. you have NO idea how much of a coveted position that is...

ask petrucci for a lesson. film it. so i can see it. i am currently filled w/ jealous rage.

speaking of, i bought the official octavarium tab book cuz online tabs weren't doing it and the first parts of the title trackaren't available in PT format, which is what i use. ill be workin on the album songs, as they're not too difficult :]

waaaaay overpriced ($30 w/ tax) but DT is worth anything.

I would if I had the ability to record.

I didn't get the position yet. The band is auditioning about 6 other guitarists.

scenesfromatheater 04-03-2006 01:55 PM

How's it going people? Haven't been on here for a while

Can't wait for the new DVD to come out, the setlist is pretty poor though, probably my least favourite live release setlist. It's cool they've finally done Innocence Faded on a DVD now.

Haha, I was watching the live Tokyo DVD the other day, the fan who says "James Labrie is the greatest singer in the world, that's all I have to say". Haha, what a guy.

Element of LED 435 04-03-2006 02:22 PM

out of these CD's which do u think i should buy:

6DoIT
SFAM
Awake
8vm
When Dream and Day Reunite

Lately ive been leaning to 6DoIT becuz i heard good things about it but now i heard octavarium and SFAM are also good so im leaning toward those but im just a lil confused on which to buy

GenuineImitation 04-03-2006 02:27 PM

They are all great but my top 3 from that list are:

1)SFAM
2)Awake
3)6DoIT

If you have enough money, I would say get all of them.

jpshortstuff 04-03-2006 02:28 PM

SFAM
Amazing album with a great concept idea.

kurrpt 04-03-2006 02:28 PM

dude, ill hook ya up with all of those if you want

a little thing called yousendit links....

Lord Abortion 04-03-2006 02:31 PM

SFAM and 6 degrees.

The second disk is amazing.

I was shocked that they played the entire thing live with an Orchestra.

I cant wait for the DVD.

Is their going to be a Gigantour DVD?

Element of LED 435 04-03-2006 02:33 PM

lol the thing is i dont wanna download these songs even tho i downloaded about 30 DT songs and these CD's were the ones that i hadnt heard the most songs on and i want the albums some ppl mite call it stupidity but i want them to just be a true fan

There is nothing stupid about having all the albums, not just the mp3's. I have all the DT studio albums and most of the live albums. As does most people in this thread (probably).

kurrpt 04-03-2006 02:40 PM

actually...

i feel the more i download albums, im actually motivated more to buy the CDs

Example : Dragonforce

having had no experience with the band, i downloaded anything i could get my hands on. After listening to the new CD a dozen times in less than 2 weeks, im not frantically buying up tickets to see them live (where REALLY make money) T-shirts, the whole nine

everyone knows the band makes diddly for the album sales

Element of LED 435 04-03-2006 02:41 PM

its all about royalties and how much the bands royalty rate is

Lord Abortion 04-03-2006 02:42 PM

Yeah, I have the entire discography...bootlegs will be needed, though.

jpshortstuff 04-03-2006 02:43 PM

you could get someone to send you samples songs of all the albums that you're considering, then buy the album you want. Of course the problem then is that you'll want all the albums because of how amazing the songs are, but you'll end up buying them all anyway if you want to be a true fan.

GenuineImitation 04-03-2006 02:51 PM
Yeah, I have the entire discography...bootlegs will be needed, though.
I was going to buy the Dark Side of the Moon, Master of Puppets and Number of the Beast Bootlegs, but I only have enough for a poster and 2 shirts.

temporary 04-03-2006 03:01 PM

GenuineImitation: You seriously have to be the luckiest guy ever. If I got a chance like that I'd spend all my time practicing. If you get in, that would be amazing.

Yea, I was tempted by a copy of When Dream and Day Reunite, but the damn 20th Anniversary shirt was thirty five bucks.

Thanks.

I got the 20th Anniversary shirt/poster, program and the Octavarium t-shirt (the one with the picture of the maze from the octavarium cartoon)

My digital camera wouldn't stay in focus that well when recording movies, but I still present you with this damn good shot of the end of Sacrificed Sons.

I downloaded most Dream Theater (Except for Scenes From a Memory which was a present from my parents), but I have later gone back and bought them all.

Except for When Day and Dream Unite, Falling Into Affinity(sp?) and the full A Change of Seasons album..

How long is that movie?

Laztec 04-04-2006 07:32 AM

DT's number of the beast bootleg- Does it have james' vocals on it?

Jev 04-04-2006 08:29 AM

Yup.
He sounds a lot like Bruce.

ghettoeddo 04-04-2006 10:04 AM

maiden even asked james to fill in for bruce after he left.
that says something my friends.

geniune, hope you get the position. you're set for great and awesome things :]
will you guys be playing DT covers or original songs?

ok im a little embarassed, but i don't have all the original albums...i downloaded most of mine but i went and bought all the live albums and such. if i get the money, i wanna buy 6DOIT cuz it sounds better all connected on the 2nd disk, but burned CD's stop and restart so it's disjointed.

Jev 04-04-2006 10:05 AM

I'm surprised LaBrie never took the opportunity.

Lord Abortion 04-04-2006 11:04 AM

Holy crap!
Name return!

Yeah, me too; although I think he realised it's a bugger of a position to take up. Blaze was never fully accepted by the fans, amazing vocalist though he is, and excellent albums The X-Factor and VXI are.

He fits DT so much better and must have been confident of the success to happen, he made the right decision IMO.

JamJar 04-04-2006 01:01 PM

And his Kanadian ways wouldn't work in a British band :P
