(except for you trippers)
Since I'm the only one who thinks early Floyd was better I'm assuming you're refering to me.
I thought early Floyd was their peek far before I ever touched any psychedelics. I wasn't even that big into weed when I started to think that either. Am I really the only one who thinks that? |
i think that the early years were just as good if not better then the Waters days
|
The early work is growing on me. I like A Nice Pair. I haven't heard Pipers At The Gates Of Dawn(Is that right?), But I'm sure, when I listen to it, I'll like it. Coz It's Floyd. Have they made something bad(before Waters left)? Floyd - Waters were ****. They made a load of crap. But, Waters made that band. He was the creative one. Writing lyrics and making the songs. He did everything for that band.
BTW: Rogers Waters' solo work. Could someone recommend me some of his solo work please. Thanks. |

Waters actully only wrote one song off Piper and it's the weakest song on the album. OK, we have 2 anybody else? |
Was Piper before SOS?
|
^^ Yeah it was, it was PF's debut album
|
I always thought Piper was a Soundtrack for a movie. What was I thinking.lol
MLOR (Momentary Lapse of Reason) is a very good album IMO.
Some "true fans" can't stand it because there's no Roger Waters.. Which is fine, their opinion. But I think early PF is simply terrible.
Waters or no waters, I can't stand it because its not a very intresting album. |
The wall, The final cut...
When they wrote as a group, they wrote fantastic music. when waters took over most of the writing, they stopped making great music, and when he left, they did not restart.
What? The Wall? That's under the name Pink Floyd not Roger Waters. I meant like ROGER WATERS. his totally solo work, away from PF. I think Roger made better music on his own. It's very much more musically great than the early work. Water made the group more mature. The early work, IMO, was them having fun as young adults. |
But, Waters made that band. He was the creative one. Writing lyrics and making the songs. He did everything for that band.
How can you say he did everything? Honestly.. He did a ton, lyrically. But the rest of the band did the music. Waters rarely even played bass on the albums, most of the time the band would get pissed cause he couldn't do it after so many tries, so Gilmour would come in and get it done quick. Gilmour also wrote a lot of music for the lyrics that Waters produced. It was a communial thing, Waters wrote lyrics, and the rest of the band went from there. |
But what about Animals and The Wall? Waters wrote everything didn't he?
|
Animals he wrote, except for Dogs.
The Wall, he wrote all except.. Young Lust Comfortably Numb Run Like Hell and The Trial |
But what about Animals and The Wall? Waters wrote everything didn't he?
Nope, the whole band wrote Animals. Rogers wrote almost all of The Wall, but Gilmour wrote most of the guitar work. Rogers always wrote always wrote the lyrics, though. |
But on the back of the Animals cd case, It says (Waters) Next to all the track names. I figured that meant 'wrote by:'
|
It does, and a lot of songs do say Waters, but a lot of times he didn't write the lyrics, or play bass on the song for that matter. Waters never gave his band the credit they deserved.
|
The Wall, IMO was the bands best work, as cliche as that may seem. Animals coming second to that. Pink Floyd made good music in the start, but then it was not just Waters working on the music. That was fun psycadelic music they made. But later, Waters was moving away from the band to make the music himself. That IMO, worked. As he grew even more apart of Pink Floyd, he went on to start a solo career. That should be good, as he was the musically creative member of Pink Floyd. Can someone post the Discography of his solo career please. Thanks.
POST 1000 for me. Yipee. |
I've never recieved a clear answer about this....... Why did Roger leave the Floyd?
|
I've never recieved a clear answer about this....... Why did Roger leave the Floyd?
He didn't. They kinda kicked him and his giant ego out of the band. |
Well first him and Rick Wright had a problem, which is why Wright wasn't on The Final Cut.
Gilmour and Waters have really always never seen eye to eye. They've always had disagreances, and eventually Waters just.. left, or maybe they kicked him out? Either or. So Gilmour and Mason brought back Wright to make 2 more, I think, very good albums. I've always liked Gilmour a lot more than Waters though, vocally, musically, and even as a person. He seems to be a better person. I lost a lot of respect for Waters when I heard he spit on a kids face who was crawling up on the stage during DSoTM. |

The early work, IMO, was them having fun as young adults.
it was a weak attempt at a joke. I just find the solo stuff boring. there's nothing musically original or exciting about it, the lyrics don't appeal to me and in some of roger's albums the vocals consitute little more than rhythmic monologue. Roger elft pink floyd because he felt that the other members were simply jealous of his songwriting ability and ebcause he was upset that they said he couldn't sing. However, an outsider might suppose that the reason roger was doing mostr of the songwriting was that he wouldn't let anybody else do it. he went on to make some veyr offenisve comments about david gilmour, which in the msot part dave didn't dignify with petty arguments. but they were both pretty silly about it. |
Yea. I'm really suprised that they got back together.
That's why Gilmour and Waters with an arm around each other on stage, was simply.. amazing. |
Fuk, I wanna see that Live8 Pink floyd Concert. Was it any good?
|
It was pretty good..
It was more of a "wow I can't belive this is happening" then, what a great performance. |
Waters discography

Did someone ask about Waters' solo albums?
The only one worth buying is Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking. It's very Floyd-ish in regards to the conceptual flow, and the music. The band Roger put together is one of the best assembled. Eric Clapton, Michael Kaman, David Sanborn, Andy Newmark.. Good stuff. Some people don't like it. I loved it though. I saw the tour and was lucky enough to catch Clapton before he quit the tour, citing that "Waters is a psychopath". David Gilmour also released solo works. His album "About Face" is actually pretty good. Pino Palladino plays some mean fretless on that album. |

I've heard a lot about Rado K.A.O.S. But that doesn't mean it was any good. :thumb: |
Radio KAOS sucked.
Amused to Death is over the top lyrically, but decent musically. Pros and Cons will make you happy. |

I don't know on the DVD. I'll buy Car Ira when it comes out though. I own all the other ones. Something intriguing about Roger doing opera based on the French Revolution. I assume Roger will record the upcoming event in Rome, and maybe have that on DVD. |
I found this very cool photo:

I like Amused to Death. Interesting concept and Jeff Beck has some great moments on that album.

<- My favorite early Floyd photo. Rick with the hat looks awesome (I'm pretty sure it's Rick... either him or Mason) |
Mason is the one with the hat, Rick is far right ... I think ... :p
