Don't even get me started! |
Get an avatar.. sometime. Yeah Rubber Soul is awesome. In My Life is my favorite song there.
I got the First U.S. Visit DVD and a Let It Be poster today.. I have to stop buying Beatles stuff.
My sister is addicted, we might have to send her to rehab She has that DVD, did you get to the part where Paul George and Ringo are in a hotel, and Paul says "Ringo.. I've done an abstract!" Priceless |
Don't even get me started!
Well I really don't know that much about it, that's just an idea. It's likely they would have had great sucess, but possibly not to the same degree they did. |
In My Life is incredible. So is Norwegian Wood, The Word, Nowhere Man, and I guess the whole rest of the album. Rubber Soul is awesome.
In My Life is one of the greatest songs ever witten, regardless of time period. I like the Stones. I'm not the hugest fan, but I definitely enjoy the music, and do think they would've been huge no matter what. Quite possibly even bigger if it weren't for The Beatles. |
Don't even get me started!
You know it's true.;) |
Read Med57's reply on what the Beatles did for music. Very well put, especially the instrumental experimentation.
The effect we take for granted called 'phasing' was created in the sixties by running two identical tapes of music in perfect sync together to achieve that 'swooshing' effect. It was very tedious and time comsuming, but ground breaking none the less. It came from Abby Road studios and the term 'phasing' was coined by John Lennon.
I swear, you have to be one of my favorite posters, ever. Everything you post is informative and very high quality stuff. I've learned a lot from reading your posts and I'd just like to say, cheers. :chug: |
He certainly seems to know his stuff, which is always nice to see.

Now that I think about it, that's quite possibly true. They could have been bigger if it wasn't for the beatles |
Yeah, information certainly is nice. You rock, bcf!
And I do see the Stones as being bigger if The Beatles weren't clogging up the charts. |
The Beatles are decent, although there's no denying that they saved us from 40's trash.

ou have to admit the Beatles had way more influence over music, it is arguable that Srt. Pepper's started acid rock to some extent. |
i love the beatles, im learning to play there songs on the bass

Yeah, but that doesn't disprove what he said at all. |
Well, thankye for the accolades, people. Much appreciated.
By the way, I heard talk of the Stones in here. Incidentally, the Stones may never have got their start if the they hadn't been introduced by John, Paul and George to Decca Records president Dick Rowe in 1963. One of the Stones first hits was a 'throwaway' number by John and Paul called 'I Wanna be your Man.' The Beatles later recorded it with Ringo in the lead, but first it was given to the Stones. Early on the Beatles wrote songs for many other bands. When they had first gotten to number one in Britian (before making it in America) their songs were sought after by other artists. The Beatles gave them away as they thought having credit as songwriters on other labels would boost their careers faster. Fact coutesy of the Bob Spitz book --fasinating. |

Really? Maybe I should go pick up that book. |
I got a Paul McCartney live cd today called Tripping the Live Fantastic its really good, Sgt. Pepper's is amazing.
|
I'd highly recomend it. It's great. There are so many versions of what was said, done etc, in so many other books and such, but this one seems to put it all in perpective. Kind of cutting to the chase in a realistic way, sort to speak. I thought my knowledge was good, but I'm learning new stuff with every chapter. :)

Oh, and by the way, Mister Blue Sky.... nice handle. I'm a big Jeff Lynde fan as well. :)
|
I'm a big Jeff Lynne* fan as well.
Excellent! We're the rare breed on these boards. I wrote a thread on ELO once. 5 people commented. :upset: |
I always point to ELO's cover of 'Roll Over Beethoven' as a breakthrough in rock. Besides, just as some rock legend collaborations can be silly and contrived, a few are so right in the level of taste it's uncanny. The Willburys -- Dylan, Orbison, Harrison, Petty AND Lynde. That was made in rock heaven.
|
He also produced Harrison's stuff for awhile. Brainwashed was one of them. Arguably Harrison's best album. Didn't he finish up Brainwashed after George died also?
|

Not to mention Jeff's ace production skills. Have you seen the Concert for George? Jeff produced that, and I think his cover of "I Want To Tell You" is pretty good. Although Tom Petty sounds so bad on "Handle With Care"
Didn't he finish up Brainwashed after George died also?
Yeah, with Dhani. |
Seen it? Heck, I own the DVD. Let's be nice and say Petty had an off day. Petty I can take or leave, but the roots are there, and that's what I find most impressive. I respect that more so than say, a member of REM stating the Beatles were only a pop band and REM was so much deeper than the Beatles ever were. Funny though, how Beatle-esque REM was in their songwriting and arranging.....

Man, the Beatles thread is high class. The current convo is completely over my head. :)
I was bored yesterday so I watched the first 3 dvds of The Beatles Anthology. I love how Paul said when he first started playing guitar, he might take a bus all the way across town just to learn a new chord. Makes you appreciate all the guitar books we have nowadays. |
I've been a news photographer for over 20 years. I got to photograph Orbison in performance shortly before he died. The man was amazing. Easy to see why he was a big infuence on the Beatles when they first discovered rock and roll.

He has one of the most amazing voices I have ever heard. Ever. |

Yeah, with Dhani.
I like Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty's songs on the Concert For George. They did a good job. The whole concert is very awesome. |
