How do you Floyd fans feel about Saucerful of Secrets and Obscured By Clouds? They're relatively unknown albums but I seem to be enjoying them.
I like them both. they're a bit patchy in places, but i enjoy them.
the pompeii bit with the slide?

I have to mould the 2 together to make it half playable (example- dave recorded one solo on a 24 fret gutiar, i don't have one, neither does he in pompeii) (another example- there are 5 guitars layered in one part) but I can certaintly do it.
No the Pompeii solo where it zooms in on Dave's guitar, the solo right before the funky part. I'm bad at slide parts :upset:

Ray: I love OBC. The songs on there are all very good, and a lot of the solos rule. I think it's sometimes underestimated because not many people know about it.

And Saucerful of Secrets is great too. It resembles earlier, PATGOD type stuff, so it's somewhere else to turn to if you want Floyd like that (I enjoy both Syd and Dave era Floyd, but Dave more.) The other thing I really like about Saucerful is how Rick Wright plays a larger role. He wrote, and sings on, a lot of the songs, and he deserves to have a larger part in the music. He is a very talented musician.
"It's sad that these people think he's such a wonderful subject, that he's a living legend when, in fact, there is this poor sad man who can't deal with life or himself. He's got uncontrollable things in him that he can't deal with and people think it's a marvellous, wonderful, romantic thing. It's just a sad, sad thing, a very nice and talented person who's just disintegrated."

David Gilmour
It's very sad story that I am not ignorant to. I'm talking about the music not how he went insane. I don't think it's genius that he got drugged every day and eventully went insane because of it. I dig the music not the legend.
MEddle is a fantastic album.
That's quite true! Echoes and One of these Days are both amazing, particularly Echoes (definitly one of the greatest rock songs of all time.) Am I the only one who thinks San Tropez is way underrated? Wright's jazz solo is awesome.

Alessandro 07-18-2005 12:20 PM

Can anyone upload some stuff from The Piper at The Gates of Dawn? I donīt know much about this album, so Iīd like to have a listen on a few songs. Thanks in advance

I love that, its great.

DeusExMachina 07-18-2005 12:45 PM

Man, how can you people learn all of Echoes? That song is soooo friggin big, i wouldn't have the patience to learn it. I barely have the patience to learn something like, say, Time or Money.

Illmatic 07-18-2005 12:54 PM

Yeah, I think Echoes is a little too ambitious.

WheepingGuitar39 07-18-2005 01:26 PM
I believe the Gilmour shirt is that black one that he's always wearing. Anyone else notice that he just wears plain black t-shirts, I bet you he's got a closet full of plain black shirts.
yea i noticed that too
but only when he's playing with Pink Floyd
plain black t shirt with blue jeans
lol..
When I saw him at live 8, i instantly said, he's wearing the same thing as on the Pulse video

I haven't heard most of OBC (though I love the title track and Childhood's End is my second favorite Floyd song after Echoes) but SOS is pretty cool. The title track is a bit iffy, but Let There Be More Light and especially Set The Controls are winners for sure.

Dried Muffin Remnants 07-18-2005 01:38 PM

Echoes is my favorite song high. However, normally my favorite Floyd song is probably Time.

you clearly have nowhere enar enough time on your hands.

Riva 07-18-2005 05:05 PM

Obscured By Clouds is fantastic! I wish I had the CDs, so listening to them would be easier. They got their wear when I drove my mum's car for a few weeks, which has a tape player. :p I think I'll play one now, actually.

I generally learn shorter stuff. I just finished learning Time and The Wind Cries Mary, and right now I'm exorcising my desire to play fast stuff by learning Liberty, by Steve Vai. Someday, I'll learn Echoes. When I get a guitar with enough frets.

Heretic! No one must deny the power of Echoes!

(I haven't attempted to learn it either). :)

ATM 07-18-2005 07:23 PM

I attempted SOYCD. That's fun to play.

Thor 07-18-2005 07:41 PM

Man, The Wall has me hooked yet again. I just can't get over how awesome that album is.

Personally I think it is one of their worse, but thats just me.

Otherside 07-18-2005 08:25 PM

I really like the idea of the album, althought it isn't my favorite Floyd cd.

In The Flesh?, Comfortably Numb and Goodbye Bluesky are my favorites on this one.

guitarhero 24 07-18-2005 08:56 PM

Roger Waters??

I know after he left pink floyd, Waters had a few solo albums. Does anyone know if they were any good?

yeah, i agree. its quite an average album.
I attempted SOYCD. That's fun to play.
Again, I can play part onne the way he does live (missing out the 3rd solo).

i should learn that 3rd solo sometime.

Can you explain to me why? I think it is probably the best rock album ever made at the moment.

what a load of rubbish.

IF they want to reform, they know very well they could sell out any venue they wanted to.

Dave's already madse it quite clear he doesn't want to do an album or a tour, so what's the problem? 1000 signatures on the internet won't make a difference.
Can you explain to me why? I think it is probably the best rock album ever made at the moment.
It's horribly repetitive. it feels like 1/3 of the album is based around the same riff.

Rounder 07-19-2005 09:24 AM
Can you explain to me why? I think it is probably the best rock album ever made at the moment.
The wall was ok, and of course Comfy Numb is on there, but come on, its not one of the best floyd albums, much less a best rock album ever. Most floyd records are better than the wall. Animals, Wish you were here, are better imo.
hell Echoes is better.

DeusExMachina 07-19-2005 09:51 AM
I attempted SOYCD. That's fun to play.
Yeah, I tried to learn it, but got bored and gave up at about the 5 minute mark. I should try it again.

I don't know why everyone is bashing the Wall so much. I love it. Is it overrated, and not the best? Sure. But it's still a good album, says I.
