yeah, I print it on thick cardstock type paper. If you're going to be making a shirt then use a thick paper and use double sided tape to stick the edges against the fabric to get cean lines.
If you're going to do silkscreening I like a glossy cheap photo paper type because the paint won't soak through. If you want a vandalism on buildings type of stencil, what I'd do is either the method you mentioned or easier to just put lots of double stick tape down on the printer paper, stick it to cardboard and cut. As far as thin parts, do your best. If you ruin it take some tape and stick it back together and trim off the excess tape. |
Ok Thanks guys i was wondering if i was doing it right. Ill try to post pics when im done but it wont be for like a week.
good luck, are you making a shirt or what?
You don't really need thick paper though, I've used standard computer printer paper for all of my stencils and I havn't had any over/underspray or any other complications.
Damn, the boots in that Minor Threat stencil are hard to cut. It took me like 5 tries.
For stencils, I usually cut it out of computer paper, then spraypaint the stencil onto a sheet of posterboard, then cut out the posterboard, then spray it onto my shirt/whatever I'm doing. |

computer paper is all flimsy and **** and thinker paper doesnt fall apart as easy and lasts longer. i print whatever out and then tape it to a folder and then cut it and then use the folder as the stencil. |
I print it out on computer paper, and then staple it to a posterboard and cut it that way.
That's what I do except I use packaging tape to tape it onto posterboard.

thats the shirt i made i did it fast jsut to see how it would come out i used fabric marker and im probably gonna write skanking time above and below it. comments plz.
You used a fabric marker but you didn't join up the lines?! If you did it would look even better than it does. I always thought that was the whole point of them anyway, and why people use them with stencils.
Hmmm why putting it above and below it? |
i know paper isn't very good for stencils cause the paper can bleed. but will thicker heavier stuff like drawing/art paper prevent this.

Pretty good. But I agree with the other person, you should connect the lines. |

^ yea thats where i got it from. Do u have any pics of ur shirt?
For mine, I just used the stencil from that site like incubass and ghostfire3 said, then just used acrylic paint and a foam brush.
Heres the finished shirt. keep in mind this was just a test shirt to get the hang of it its only my first one.

I find that photo paper (not really high quality, just low qulaity semi-gloss) prevents paints from soaking through and is easy to cut with an X-acto Incubass's Op Ivy shirt looks great by the way |
i will post the stencils soon but they are on a computer that has no internet connection
