Blasting "Nectar" at the moment...
Why does Opeth kick so much ass? I guess no one will ever know. |
Because their song writing ability is second to none.

Good song writing is purely opinion. I'd say it's Opeth's originality for sure, because not everyone will agree that they are good song writers, but they are original for a fact. |
I think their earlier lyrics were much more put together and made more sense. Their latests ones i'm not too impressed with.

I think all of Opeth's lyrics were well put together, but I dislike the lyrics on Ghost Reveries. I don't think I will ever get into that album, there's too much singing. The only song I tolerate is Reverie/Harlequin Forest. I like the ''heavy Opeth with a little bit of singing'' better. That's what makes his voice so extraordinary. Because he barely did it. On Ghost Reveries he sings a lot, and it doesn't sound the same. It sounded better when it was only a few lines. (Orchid) Don't get my wrong, Mikaels vocals on D@mnation are amazing, but that's D@mnation. I expected Ghost Reveries to be way heavier then it turned out to be. There's a lot of clean vocals on Blackwater Park, but certain songs/riffs make up for that in the album, which makes it come together all in all. I think Ghost Reveries is Opeth's lightest album. The Grand Conjuration comes so close to being heavy both musically and lyrically, and that's the heaviest song on the album. I've always known Opeth for their brutality. Ghost Reveries lacks that, there's not enough double kick or violent riffs, and the Keyboards really don't suit Opeth like I thought. They're okay, but... :upset: When I think about it, I appreciate Deliverance a LOT more now ;) |
I didn't mean anything harsh to GR, I'm obsessed with Orchid. Probably one of my favorite albums of all time. :thumb:
I think Ghost Reveries is Opeth's lightest album.
Damnation?
Damnation?
D@mnation is heavier, only because of the lyrics IMO. Ghost Reveries tries to be hard, you die hard Opeth fans know what I'm talking about. |

Definately. I listen to The Master's Apprentices regularly. :thumb: |
I still like Morningrise the most. What an amazing album. The lyrics, the songwritting, everything. Probably the best Metal album ever recorded.
''Smiling in the midst of the moor!'' |
The whole album Deliverance gets a regular spin from me, I love the more unappreciated songs like Wreath and By The Pain I See In Others.

I'm obsessed with Orchid as well. :D You're right though, GR is their lightest album so far... |

You saying I'm not a die hard fan? Pfft! :p I don't even know most of Opeth's lyrics. I'm not too big on lyrics of most bands, except a few songs here and there. I concentrate on the guitars usually. |

Yeah, those songs don't get nearly enough credit. NP: Lazarus |

Sorry, no CODs. Order today! |

I just sing along to the clean parts. NOOOoooooooo growling for me....I love how it sounds, but if you try to do that without knowing what you're doing, you'll be talking through a voicebox in no time.

Haha, it's the opposite for me. I've developed a good growl over the past few days. |

I tried growling with the album Deliverance, and as a result, I lost my voice for 3 days. :p |
im listening to ghost reveries...its amazing

I haven't listened to Orchid in a while, maybe I'll put that in while I watch the Hawkeyes get owned. :upset: |
Opeth is a million times better when you get to sing along. :)
To be honest, I don't even know what he says in the growling parts. I have read the lyrics, but never memorized them. I could sing alot to most of the new CD, but I'm just not a sing-a-long kind of guy. Except for bands like Funeral Diner, Circle Takes The Square, and Orhicd. :p |
im listening to ghost reveries...its amazing
Yeah I got it off the Daily Upload and I haven't been listening to anything else. |
I can't tolerate more then one listen of Ghost Reveries per day.
|
God, I love GR.
|
I do too :D.
But still: NP: Korn - Chi... you need to shake things up a little, keep your tastes balanced. |
I can't tolerate more then one listen of Ghost Reveries per day.
Same. When I listen to any song from that album, it just makes me want to listen to heavier Opeth. :D |
If I listen to Baying Of The Hounds once, I have the listen to the whole Deliverance album to regain myself. :p
