Not necessarily. Abortions weren't a novel thing after 1973; they were just legal. Moreover, it might be preferable for a pregnancy to be terminated than for a child to be born at a time when the parents aren't ready to adequately take care of it. There are also the widely-cited cases where carrying a baby to term can have profoundly negative impacts (usually psychologically) on the mother. If a child is born in this instance, these negative impacts can easily be reflected onto the child.

It's also impractical to throw all of the would-be-terminated pregnancies into the adoption system. That would almost certainly make existence within the adoption system completely miserable.

Even a normal pregnancy could probably be classified as "intraspecies parasitism", or something to that effect. Moreover, up until approximately 28 weeks after fertilization, the fetus essentially has a statistically negligible chance for survival (it should also be noted that abortions rates following this point are significantly decreased from the 1st trimester rates). Anyway, my point is that just because the fetus could be defined as living (a claim that I'm not convinced is correct), that doesn't mean that abortion is necessarily [i]always[/i] morally wrong.
