Adam Jones is GOD 04-15-2005 11:19 AM
I see lots of similarities in Tom Morello and Adam Jone's styles. Meh....maybe it's just me....
Nope, i see them too. They may have moved away recnetly along their own paths, but check out both artists preferences. Both use their tone as their strongest point, with loads of effects to create unique sounds.

Then both have a habbit of tremelo picking solos and occassionally shredding.

But from playing both Tool and RATM stuff (and to a lesser extent, some Audioslave), I notice a very similar style when playing them. The reason for this is obvious though

My thoughts exactly. Good to know I am not the only one who sees this.

Darkness 04-15-2005 11:30 AM

Yeah I think there similar to... probably because they tought eachother to play...

Adam Jones is GOD 04-15-2005 11:31 AM

Cookie for anyone who can name me the band they formed at High School.

(no cheating by using Kabir's FAQ)

Darkness 04-15-2005 11:31 AM

Electric Sheep

The JoZ 04-15-2005 11:32 AM

Electric Sheep.

Adam played bass though :p

And it's probably the relationship they had through high school that has led them to have similar playing styles.

bassist-bmxer 04-15-2005 11:35 AM

I thought it was Tom that played bass.... I'm probably wrong.

Darkness 04-15-2005 11:35 AM

^No, Adam played bass.

To the joz, its a fact that they learned how to play from eachother... I can't remember which one said that but I saw it in an interview somewhere..

Adam Jones is GOD 04-15-2005 11:36 AM

Good to see you're all on the ball today

/trusts at least JoZ knew off the top of his head.

Tom Morrello and Adam Jonas have similar playing styles? Tom uses alot if eighties like rifes and solo's while Adam......can't actually think of someone to compare him with.

They are still two of the most influential guitarist for me though, maybe Tom more than Adam.

Darkness 04-15-2005 12:02 PM

Their just similar the way they play, their tone, the effects...

clearvision 04-15-2005 12:15 PM

I did AJIG, just wasn't on at the time :(

/Hopes he still gets a house point

James Howlett 04-15-2005 12:30 PM

It's simply how they both play...differently.

None of their riffs or solos are particularly technical or hard, but they are some of the best around.

They are two guitarists who utilize effects to their fullest advantage. Rather than being seen as hiding behind effects, as some might do...if Tom and Adam didn't use effects the way they did, their playing would be only average, maybe a little above...

siva_chair 04-15-2005 01:38 PM

Anyone know where to get a hold of the legendary "Aenima" guitar tab book? I have searched everywhere, but I cannot find the **** thing.

I'm starting to wonder if it even exists.....

jamesclelland 04-15-2005 02:35 PM

the whole album tab doesn't exist. i've called companies etc... doesnt exist. you can get single song books for $3 though. www.sheetmusicplus.com

Yeah, I said the same thing. Although the "Know Your Enemy" solo was very impressive, Tom was still using a lot of effects on his guitar. Any advanced guitarist in music today could have such a solo.

But let's not downgrade the importance and skill of using effects. Tom and Adam are the best..maybe ever.

Darkness 04-16-2005 03:51 PM

Yeah but I love the way Tom uses other stuff to... like ball pointed pens or the cord that plugs into the guitar itself...

Kage 04-16-2005 05:24 PM

It's not that Adam uses effects, it's the way he uses them. I think it's brialliant, and I like his playing far better than Morello's, but that's strictly personal preference.

horseypie 04-16-2005 06:08 PM

tom has way kooler sounds...and adam has more structured, arty solos

The JoZ 04-16-2005 06:11 PM

Me too.

Morello's solos are cool. But nothing gives me goosebumps quite like the second Third Eye solo

Sleeper 04-16-2005 06:18 PM

Tom can make his guitar scream

Darkness 04-16-2005 08:15 PM

Tom can do alot of things on his guitar...

The JoZ 04-16-2005 08:19 PM

Why are we still comparing the two?

They are both great guitarists, with similar, yet different styles.

Darkness 04-16-2005 08:22 PM

^ Amen...

On to other tool related topics... I can't think of anything else to discuss right now...

Rounder 04-16-2005 08:29 PM

So, now that we have a website set up..Im thinking of making videos of me playing Tool songs because a lot of the tabs are wrong...here are some of the songs im thinking of recording..

Undertow
Flood
Stinkfist
Eulogy
46&2
Pushit
Third eye
The Grudge
Schism
Lateralus

if there are any others that you might want to see my take on..let me know..I can play other songs, some I need to relearn

Sleeper 04-16-2005 08:36 PM

I would like you to play either Swamp song or Disposition

Rounder 04-16-2005 08:41 PM
I would like you to play either Swamp song or Disposition
