The English gets better if you're talking to like popular cafe/shop owners or younger people but I know enough German to get by with basic stuff just not hold a deep conversation haha, it's been only a minor challenge but my courses started today and its 3 hours of German only so it should help me improve quite a bit.

Yeah, same here. I can get around quite well speaking German, and I might even understand some deeper conversation if they're not speaking too fast, but I wouldn't be able to participate in it.

Yeah that's how it was on Thursday when I was hanging out with this group of Viennese students at this dorm, they were speaking fast and their accent/dialect is different from the high German I'm used to hearing from my teacher as well, but I could interject every now and then lol, luckily the more I drink the more I want to use German so it works out.

I wish I had the ability to learn other languages. I just seem to be unable to do it

Yeah, I'd like to learn Spanish, but those languages most directly descended from Latin are fucking difficult for me to understand for some reason. Well, I've only ever really learned French (just the first two years of sec ed), and I really hate the language.

I wouldn't be able to continue speaking German if I were drunk, I think. Doesn't come out quite so naturally for me that I don't really have to think about it too much.

Myah I don't like Dutch either. I feel like it sounds like sort of an Anglofied German. I like English and I like German, but an in-between sound just sounds wrong.
