Just before the release of Hatebreeder. He was in a coma for a week or so and the carried on with CoB. I'm kind of glad he did, because I like CoB.
My singer was trying to tell me that Alexi's vocals aren't singing at take no talent. I was seriously offended by this becuase no only is it hard, it is definately singing. He hits pitches that he can easily miss and it'll sound bad (he's done it before). He just calls it screaming. How would it be screaming if you can do it at any volume? And it sounds nothing like screaming.
They don't really take that much talent. Any real vocalist will tell you that.

Toaster 11-04-2005 10:57 PM
They don't really take that much talent. Any real vocalist will tell you that.
Well, I don't think so. Screaming does take talent, to have a good thick tone to your voice while pushing air as hard as you can is hard. Some people can't do it at all.. therefore, it takes talent.

stevo_13 11-04-2005 11:30 PM

I agree that screaming doesn't take much talent but to play the stuff he plays while singing(or screaming) is pretty impressive

It does not take much talent at all. The way he sings is basically the complete opposite of what you should do. Most trained vocalists look down on other vocalists that scream/sing like that.

can you sing like that?

Shadows 11-05-2005 09:40 AM

His singing is pretty easy to do, but his screaming is not, especially while playing the way he does. If you don't do it right, you could easily damage your voice, and it does take some talent.

AA-12 11-05-2005 09:41 AM
can you sing like that?
Yes, but I never do/will.

the screaming is basically the same as the singing. just hold on longer.

dest. Chaos 11-05-2005 09:43 AM
Yes, but I never do/will.
if you never do it, how do you know that you can do it?

Not at all. They're completely different.
if you never do it, how do you know that you can do it?
I'm saying i'd never do it for long periods of time, use it as my vocal style, or practice it.

then what's the difference?

if you have never practiced it you can't do it that very good...

AA-12 11-05-2005 09:49 AM
if you have never practiced it you can't do it that very good...
I never said that I had it perfected or anything like that, I just said I could do it.

Shadows 11-05-2005 09:51 AM
then what's the difference?
You really don't know the difference between singing and screaming?

AA-12 11-05-2005 09:51 AM

You mean how long can I keep singing like that? I don't know. I don't enjoy killing my vocals.

EDIT: Nice ninja edit :p

that's the thing you know... to be able to sing like that without killing your voice and get a hurting throat. to do that you must practice.

nooo. take a listen to downfall for example. listen to the scream at 1:46 yaaaa. and when he starts singing at 1:56 . If he would hold on that "I" (see angels burning) it would be the same as the scream before. edit: except that the scream starts on yaaa and the "singing" starts on waaa

thank you.

I say screaming is like Mudvayne or something. I know Bodom is singing because I can sing in his voice while matching pitch on a piano.

You can match heavy screaming to a piano too though, same with growls.

IheartSP 11-05-2005 10:53 AM

If your just screaming at the top of your lungs I wouldn't think you'd be able to control it.

Shadows 11-05-2005 10:54 AM

That's where the practicing part comes in.

Lil’ Bloodred Ridin’ Hood 11-05-2005 11:01 AM

http://www.fotolog.net/cob_hatecrew/ there ya go lol i think thats so funny

Huber 11-05-2005 11:35 AM

To my knowledge, "screaming" in music is basically done by singing notes but putting some rasp into your voice so it sounds harsh like a scream.

I think a good example is James Hetfield (not really screams, but you get what I mean), or even Alexi in the She Is Beautiful cover. It's just when people want harsher screams, they put more rasp and do falsetto etc...You still have to hold a note to be able to control it.

Shattered_Future 11-05-2005 11:50 AM

I can't scream high for crap...however, my voice is a lot lower than most peoples.

I do death growls instead. :D

I CAN sing, if I really tried, but not while playing an instrument. Tis physically impossible for me, unless it's a 4 chord progression ala Greenday styled (which I never do. :thumb: )

Alexi's gonna kill his voice eventually...

Did you do vox for the September contest? I want to hear those!!! Are they still available somewhere?

Shadows 11-05-2005 11:58 AM

I can't scream or growl for shit, which means I'll never be a metal vocalist. :( I'm not that bad of a singer though, so that's a plus. Maybe I'll do backing vox one day.
