Isn't melodic thrash a subgenre, or did I just make that up?
Thrash can be melodic, but there is no defined subgenre named melodic thrash. Your head was in the right place though, so don't feel stupid.
My two favorite thrash albums are Slayer- Reign in Blood (freakin classic) and of course Motorhead- Ace of Spades. Anybody else big on Motorhead?
Hell yes! I love Motorhead. |
Motorhead is great. I have Inferno,Bastards and Overkill. Actually seeing them soon too.
|

Oh yeah Inferno is a great album! I love how it's all based on the principles of the blues scales, too! I have Orgasmatron (my favorite song), Inferno, Ace of Spades, and I had Hammered and Encore Collection, but they were stolen. :upset: |
That sucks. I like the songs Red Raw, Brave New World off Hammered.
|
That sucks. I like the songs Red Raw, Brave New World off Hammered.
yeah Red Raw was my favorite off of that album, and the video for Hammered was good! |
i have a question. this may be a stupid one but im jsut getin into thrash (except slayer,l been a slayer fan for awhile)
bands like anthrax, testament are like sing, not as hard core as bands like slayer, strapping young lad. is there like sub genre's or is strapping young lad not thrash. idk?
Well there's different types of thrash that can depend on the location/region of the band (but not always) ala Bay Area thrash, German thrash, etc. If you count death/thrash as a subgenre, then you might as well count power/thrash, speed/thrash, black/thrash, and progressive-thrash as subgenres. Check out Heathen and Ulysses Siren, you might like them. |
teh tr00f.
Thanks for the rep. Have you guys seen the Ulysses Siren video on their website? The drummer looks like he's fifty, one of the guitarist (or bassist) looks like a ghetto thug, and there's like no one there watching. Good stuff. |
 thats pretty funny

Overkill is a wicked Motorhead album |

I got kicked off og's list, I asked him to re-add me, no reply yet. :upset:
I did finally manage to lay my hands on Rigor Mortis' s/t today though. It rocks.
bands like anthrax, testament are like sing
I can sorta figure out the rest, but ****, I have NO idea what this is. Nothing on the Ulysses Siren site ever works for me. Not that video, either. Rarg  |
Anyone planning of buying the new Slayer and Exodus albums this summer. After Tempo of the ****ed i think i will have to get the new Exodus.

No, GHUA was hardcore-influence crap, and TotD had some "WTF???" moments going on in it. |
Thanks for the rep.

Great song. If you don't have Eternal Nightmare though, get it, it blows OtM away! This coming from someone who is a big fan of OtM! I do not like Pantera, at all, and they certainly aren't thrash, on that album in particular. |
I really want to get that album, but its so **** expensive. I'll just have to wait for the re-release soon.
|
Any idea's when the Eternal Nightmare re-release is?
Pantera isn't thrash. |
Well, these days I've been listening to a lot of Death and Morbid Angel... I love these bands a lot... but I've only got Spiritual Healing and The Sound of Perserverance (not death metal but an amazing album), and three Morbid Angel albums. What else should I get? And are there any other bands with the classic Florida death metal sound I should look into?
|
I don't know much about death metal, but if you like Death you should definatly buy Symbolic.
Any idea's when the Eternal Nightmare re-release is?
I'm not sure it just says its coming out on the website. |

Why would you ask in here? No problem though. Anyways, I'm not too knowledgable about old-school florida death metal... Obituary would work. Deicide's s/t, of course. Er, you could try Pentagram (Chile)... bit hard tracking down their albums though. How about Facebreaker - Bloodred Hell. I just got that one. Oh, and if you like Death - Martyr and Capharnum (sp?). For Morbid Angel, hopefully you've got the first 3. |
Symbolic... im on it. I'm thinking at least that and Scream Bloody Gore for now. I'm not into most death metal, but these bands are pretty awesome. |

I'll d/l some of the new Slayer, not buy it. I'll definately buy the next Exodus album though, I actually liked TOTD alot. Griffin_Page: For some old-school death metal, try out Darkthrone's "Soulside Journey". For some Floridian styled old-school death metal, go with Dargon's suggestion of Obituary, "Cause of Death" being the album to get. I may not talk about it much, but I'm big into death metal. |

Here's some gooders for you. Nocturnus - The Key Malevolent Creation - The Ten Commandments and Retribution Massacre - From Beyond |
I've spotted these albums on eBay, Pleasures of the Flesh and Fabulous Disaster - Exodus and Time Does Not Heal - Dark Angel. They're relatively cheap (each) but if I buy them all then obviously the price gets steeper so I want some intel please :D :thumb:
NP: Dark Angel - Death is Certain |
