I'm debating on getting an SP-404 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmwm2kvPVDQ) or a new ride cymbal for jazz. I would probably use the sampler more for playing along with loops and just messing around with it in general, but it would also be nice to have a jazz ride which would better suit my playing nowadays. Any thoughts?

pixiesfanyo 05-03-2009 02:20 PM

get the MPD24

Does it do basically the same thing? I haven't really shopped around and looked at other things but I need something that can run without a computer.

Jaundice 05-03-2009 02:26 PM

Yeah I'm seriously looking into a trigger finger as well.

I don't play live though so it will be superfluous.
But it will make me feel like I'm properly equipped

Amit 05-03-2009 02:32 PM

trigger finger sux

Jaundice 05-03-2009 02:34 PM

the mpd needs a computer but it does basically the same thing. its also only 200 bucks instead of a couple of grand.

SgtPrimus 05-03-2009 03:00 PM

SP 404 is like $350

pixiesfanyo 05-03-2009 03:01 PM

SgtPrimus 05-03-2009 03:09 PM

def will be buying this when i get a job. my non-furniture/ house oriented list is:

- mpd
- turntable
- vinyl collection
- mbox
- ps3

pixiesfanyo 05-03-2009 03:44 PM

what are you getting the mbox for?

kingsoby1 05-03-2009 03:54 PM

recording... i play sax, guitar, bass, etc

pixiesfanyo 05-03-2009 03:56 PM

so you just need a direct input to your computer or what?

kingsoby1 05-03-2009 04:11 PM

yeah

pixiesfanyo 05-03-2009 04:15 PM

i like the M-Audio stuff for audio interfaces. you should try this if you don't feel like spending as much

kingsoby1 05-04-2009 10:44 AM

nice, thanks. i haven't looked into this stuff for a few years... i just remembered that an mbox was kinda what i wanted.

also, i saw my baby's boy parts today... it's a boy.

i have a saffire LE audio interface is really useful with all its inputs and routing capabilities for a cheaper interface, and i have a trigger finger, but i use the keys its pretty much gracy too me which i use long as the latency is considered when im putting the music in

eventualy tho im lookg for something like a lemur for a midi pad/daw midi control, or like aaron got a novation x station, the xy pad functionality will be cool for some of the complicated etherealish synths

also i want a kp3, for its portability, though the effects could be more customizable of course i see for the variety theres some tradeoff but i suppose i really need to just get a handle on one for a while, i have a minikp, the synth sounds are cool remind me of the brainfeeder crew but i bet the koascillator is the real tool and the kp3 has them both integrated and more, though there could be better equipt out there

that akai mpc midi thing is sort of cool, i wonder if it emulated the natural mpc jitter programmed into the hardware based ones.

easylee 05-04-2009 01:24 PM

i have a computer

its all flylo used when i saw him live besides his laptop.

(*The Noonward Race*) 05-04-2009 02:16 PM

i remember he used to use the trigger finger...
i have one because of that

he was using ableton right?

i tried that out for a bit and it really gave me a sort of flylo edge with the warp markers and quantization and easyish sidechaining

pixiesfanyo 05-04-2009 02:58 PM

i'm pretty sure. it was like a 5000+ venue so i couldn't see his laptop just the mpd24 he was ****ing around with.
