I have a freakin' Squier Bullet right now. :upset: I've only been playing for about 2 years and a couple months, so I don't really need anything too great. Plus I'm a jobless bum so I don't have much money.
Maybe you could just get a nice Jackson JS-1 which are about $200 US.

I've played them and they aren't that bad. Just made me want to get the more expensive models though. (not cuz the guitar sucks but the more expensive models are cooler.)
I have a freakin' Squier Bullet right now. .
Is that like a Squier Strat?

RustedPieces 09-30-2005 02:25 PM
How much is that guitar anyway?
I'm getting it off ebay and it costs $289.99 USD I think, so that will be around $340 CAD.
Is that like a Squier Strat?
Yes, but somehow it's even worse.

MAthiAS 09-30-2005 02:26 PM

Its pretty crap, I think its plywood.

Or you could wait and try to find an LTD V-250 (I think that's the model name) on eBay, its kind of the LTD precursor to the DV8, they look like solid guitars.

Both around the same price, and way better than that Jackson you're talking about.

lightningmetal666 09-30-2005 02:30 PM

Hey if you really got your heart set on an esp and lack cash (don't really know your budget) maybe you can get like a F-50 or something like that.

Found this Jackson you might like (I sure do anyways but can't even afford this right now)

It's not a V but still looks and sounds cool.

MAthiAS 09-30-2005 02:31 PM

He's obviously not got his heart set on an ESP considering he's talking about buying a Jackson.

Sorry, thought he was talking about getting a DV8. My mistake.

FlyingPaul_83 09-30-2005 03:30 PM
Its easiest with your second finger. I'll give you some more tips later, but I'm late for school right now.
alright cool.

Jev 09-30-2005 03:34 PM
alright cool.
Just out of interest how long had you been playing before you started sweeping?

FlyingPaul_83 09-30-2005 03:35 PM

like 2-3 years, why?

I'm not very good mind you, but I am going to practice like crazy all this weekend.

I was just wondering 'cos I've been playing 1 1/2 years and I can barely do 3 string sweeps.

FlyingPaul_83 09-30-2005 03:40 PM

I can barely do 3 string sweeps aswell, thats why I'm gonna practice sweeping all weekend, so I can get good enough to even start thinking about trying to play that solo in hangar 18. I know it wont take just a weekend, but thats the only time I have to play guitar :(

I can't do them very well but here are some cool sweeps I've memorized that are 5 string sweeps:

e:------------------12h17\12p8------------
b:--------------13--------------10--------- Loop this one a few times
g:-----------14--------------------9------- and amaze your friends
d:--------14-------------------------10----
a:-/12h15-------------------------------12-
e:------------------------------------------

AND....

e:------------------------15h17h20p17p15---------------------
b:--------------------16------------------16-------------------
g:----------12h14/17------------------------17\14p12----------
d:-------13-------------------------------------------13-------
a:-12h15------------------------------------------------15p12-
e:-------------------------------------------------------------

Have a nice guitar filled weekend. The first sweep should help you practice the hanger 18 solo (sorta)

Jev 09-30-2005 04:38 PM

I got a powertab file full of cool sweeps, I'm trying to learn them.

heavy metal kid 09-30-2005 05:26 PM

^^i already knew of that, i thing he's just messing around. And if Megadeth ends, it wouldn't be so bad, they made great albums.

the only bad thing is that not many people had the luck to see them live.

Britton 09-30-2005 06:53 PM

True

FatalEnergy 09-30-2005 07:11 PM

I know this question has been awnsered before but, I know Peace Sells isn't tuned to 440. Can somebody tell me what it's tuned to?

I don't know what 440 is, but it's a quarterstep down.

440 is the pitch

vashts80 09-30-2005 09:36 PM

I believe it was MAthiAS who said Mustaine has never had a trem on his guitars before. The V he uses on Rude Awakening (I'm watching She-Wolf atm) had a trem on it. It's a V with rounded edges, not sure who makes it though.

MAthiAS 09-30-2005 09:46 PM

More than likely its a fixed bridge. Its probably a Jackson Y2KV.

rolling finger tips?

MAthiAS 09-30-2005 10:16 PM

Oh yeah, you pretty much want to make sure you're muting the string immediately after the note is played. Rolling fingers a really hard technique to get down at first, especially over three strings; its considerably easier over two strings. You can also try muting with your picking hand, I do that a lot with three string sweeps in general.

The motion itself is pretty self explanatory. You're just rolling your finger over so that the notes don't ring out, moving it so that one end of the finger is up at a time and then reversing, then back. Its pretty awkward and unnatural having your fingertip off the fretboard and the meat of your finger on, so that's something to remember.

And the same kind of stuff applies as with all sweeping, starting slow and perfecting it and working up to speed. I don't know how you are with the picking technique, but I'd advise getting comfortable with one hand at a time. Since the arp before that one rolling finger one is the same picking motion exactly, its pretty convienient to do.

And I already told you to use your second finger. That's what I find easiest, though it could be different for you, so experiment with your third finger as well. But I have so much trouble rolling my third finger... makes playing Serrana very hard for me :(

I don't know how much of that is actually helpful, but hopefully you can take something from it. :thumb:

wow, thanks abunch man. I'm gonna practice sweeping all day tomorrow.

MAthiAS 09-30-2005 10:21 PM

No problem, good luck with that. :thumb:

Wait til you get to the second part of the next solo lol, that's where I gave up and learned Dave's solo

hehe, cant wait. :thumb:

The first solo was pretty easy, but this solo with sweeps is giving me some diffuculty.

MAthiAS 09-30-2005 10:26 PM

Yeah, Marty's solos always give me trouble. His phrasing, exotic scales, and just general dexterity he's got screw me over every time. He does all these motions that feel so strange to me.

That's why he's there and I'm here though I guess.
