*knows those bands*

Beck
The Decemberists
Radiohead
The Jolly Rogers

Iai 06-10-2005 07:19 AM

Still The Magic Numbers.

Totally in love with this band right now.

br3ad_man 06-10-2005 07:32 AM

I'll check that band out if you check out The Jolly Rogers.

ATM 06-10-2005 08:42 AM
Black Mountain
Calexico

Everyone should know these bands.
Calexico are staying at my grandparents house for a little while this summer.

Zappa 06-10-2005 08:48 AM

I walked along Lake Superior and listened to Slint yesterday evening. Spiderland sounds even better with waves.

ATM 06-10-2005 09:07 AM

What kind of music are Slint?

Zappa 06-10-2005 09:25 AM

They get the reputation of being sort of "the godfathers of post-rock," but to me they're just alternative rock that wrote slow-boiling moody tunes.

ATM 06-10-2005 09:26 AM

Cool, I'll have to check them out.

Zappa 06-10-2005 10:42 AM

Agreed.
At the Drive-In - Acrobatic Tenement

fucking wonderful album
It's not my favorite ATDI album, but "Ebroglio" "Initiation" and "Paid Vacation Time" are great songs.

Zappa 06-10-2005 02:31 PM

I'm finishing up a recording that I began this morning, and I'm digging it a lot. I love making music.

YDload 06-10-2005 02:33 PM
It's my favorite by a wide margin. Second is probably In/CASINO/Out
I think I like the Vaya EP the best because it doesn't have any really poor songs on it, but they've all got their strong points.
I walked along Lake Superior and listened to Slint yesterday evening. Spiderland sounds even better with waves.
I listened to it last night too. It's a lot better than I originally gave it credit for.

pixiesfanyo 06-10-2005 03:55 PM

Salsa.

Electrocution 06-10-2005 03:58 PM
Yeah I don't see a lot of the post-rock in Slint. They're a bit removed from GYBE, Tortoise, Mogwai, etc.
I'm thinking it's because they pioneered the loud-soft-loud thing for the more recent generations.

Anyway.

At the Drive-In

Why? Are my recommendations usually that bad?

Iai 06-11-2005 03:48 PM

Look ma, triple post.

I've put a buttload of stuff on my new PC and put it on random. So I'm basically digging everything I have on mp3 but not on CD.

Some really great stuff has come up that I've never really listened to before - Art Blakey, Ryan Adams, Skunk Anansie.

Other than that.....still The Magic Numbers. And yesterday, Rufus Wainwright.

Zappa 06-11-2005 03:58 PM

Art Blakey is the Thor of jazz drummers.

Iai 06-11-2005 04:02 PM

I thought the Moanin' title track was an alternate take of So What when it came on.

But by the end, I liked it more than So What. :-*
