I haven't heard any of Gilmour's solo work, is it Floyd-esque in any way?
So, did the PULSE DVD come out as planned? I didn't get time to check.

If it did, how is it? I can't wait to get hold of it.

/bump
It was bumped back to like the 14th of January or something.

BigTrav415 01-04-2006 03:36 PM

Hey guys, I'm back in the old Pink Floyd thread! Good times, good times... hey... wait a minute... something's not right...

*breathing heavily* Someone better have a damn good explanation for what happened to The Dark Side Of The Forum while I was gone. :(

Umm for some odd reason I came on here one day and Riva had made a completely new Floyd thread.

anyway where have you been man?

DeusExMachina 01-05-2006 04:17 PM

Yeah, where have you been? It's been lonely without you.

Riva decided to make a new PF thread. Not really sure why, but I don't have any complaints with it. Except that I don't have a massive post count in this thread.

David_Gilmour 01-06-2006 04:50 PM
Most of the posters in this thread actually are big fans of the Division Bell. Most of us agree that musically it is at least as good as any other Pink Floyd album, if not better, but is lacking lyrically. Still a very good album though.

I'm a big fan of Pulse. Great performance. I hope I can see Gilmour when he comes here this spring.
i've never actually listened to the division bell. I should do really, I mainly focus on the stuff they did in the 70s really, apart form the live albums. I haven't heard much of the syd barret stuff either.

I wouldn't be surprised to find the division bell simililar musically seeing as David wrote a lot of the Floyds music and Waters wrote the lyrics. Although that it is pretty obvious in a Floyd forum

Deconstruction 01-06-2006 04:59 PM

Ey guys, I just picked up an original vinyl copy of DSOTM (heh, my dad lost his) and an original vinyl copy of Animals. Big score for me.

David_Gilmour 01-06-2006 05:00 PM

Man i've still got my copy from vinyl, its outlasted 3 CDs worth of DSOTM, in my opinion vinyl sounds better anyway

I've got DSOTM and the wall on vinyl.

Deconstruction 01-06-2006 05:02 PM

I want to find some WYWH on vinyl.

David_Gilmour 01-06-2006 05:04 PM

Yeah that is a quality album, have you seen the old copy they did of WYWH, the cover is slightly different from the one now, get hold of that and you have done well.
Does anyone here have a link to it/have it?
here it is, some idiots have written all over it though :p

http://www.irocknroll.com/images/Pink_Floyd_Wish_You_Were_Here_Album.jpg

notice how the man on fire has leant back more and the buildings in the back are different

If you want WYWH on vinyl then just go onto Amazon.com, they have them in suplpy all the time. They do in the UK store anyway

LF96 01-07-2006 11:27 AM

I've got Wish You Were Here on vinyl, and it's indeed a bit different from the cd version qua artwork. The man swimming in sand is not to be found either, too bad, I quite liked that picture.
I have every official album between Atom Heart Mother and The Wall on vinyl (unless More was made after Atom Heart Mother, can't remember, I don't have More (yet)) and am planning to get the rest as well. I saw The Division Bell on vinyl a few days ago (second hand), but the shop-keeper hadn't decided about the price yet. I hope it's still there when I go back, never saw it on vinyl before. He also had Nick Mason's solo album on vinyl which is very rare but also very bad (so I have heard). Has anyone heard that album before?

n00bguitarist 01-07-2006 11:33 AM

My dad has Dark Side Of The Moon and Ummagumma on vinyl. He used to have The Wall, but it was stolen, so he bought a second copy, and that was stolen as well.

David_Gilmour 01-07-2006 11:36 AM

I've got DSOTM and the Wall on vinyl, i've gone through 3 CDs of DSOTM. I also have a CD of the wall, animals, WYWH and meddle.
I haven't really expanded into the Syd era or the era after Roger Waters left.

Your missing out then, you need to pick up Piper at The Gates of Dawn.

Anyone like Syd Barrett's solo work? The Madcap Laughs is awesome.

Britton 01-07-2006 01:14 PM

I like a bunch of TML but I still prefer his work with the Floyd

Personal prefrence. I can't ****ing stand Syd-era stuff. It isn't even Pink Floyd.. When you hear Pink Floyd you think of DSoTM type stuff, melody, and such, not noise.

Yea then you listen to floyd with syd and he's singing about gnomes and little girls playing... that why I always ask do you like old floyd or DSOTM floyd? whenever some tells me they are a fan.

TheDMV 01-07-2006 02:53 PM

I don't have any vinyl :upset: My dad threw away all of his classics like DSOTM.

\m/-CHeV-\m/ 01-07-2006 03:49 PM

I'ma see david gilmour march 19th in amsterdam :D:D.. looking forward to it.. such a great man, such a great guitarist..

What the hell was he thinking? I've got basically every beatles album ever recorded on vinyl, but no Floyd. :(

Yeah I even like some of his solo stuff more than his stuff with Floyd. Dominos is my favorite.
What the hell was he thinking? I've got basically every beatles album ever recorded on vinyl, but no Floyd. :(
I thnik he just figured that there would be no need for them any more. I have to give him almost all the credit for getting me into bands like Floyd though.
I thnik he just figured that there would be no need for them any more. I have to give him almost all the credit for getting me into bands like Floyd though.
That's understandable. My dad got me into music too, he's obsessed with The Beatles. We have several bookcases at my house containing only books about John Lennon.

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 05:03 PM

I got into listening to classic rock from my dad as well. I remember asking if I could borrow The Wall (my first real introcuction to classic rock) and thinking "Whats with this guy screaming about meat and pudding?"

MidnightRider 01-07-2006 05:07 PM

Haha, you can't beat the angry British guy. I might have to watch The Wall tonight, I haven't seen it in forever.

moaner 01-07-2006 05:09 PM
Haha, you can't beat the angry British guy. I might have to watch The Wall tonight, I haven't seen it in forever.
scottish guy. The guy is scottish.

MidnightRider 01-07-2006 05:12 PM

Really? I've always thought he was British.

Riva 01-07-2006 05:41 PM

His accent is very, very Scottish.

Well, whilst we are whoring our PF collections, I can safely say that I have every Floyd album on CD, tape or vinyl, and in a lot of cases, on both tape and CD or vinyl and CD.

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 05:51 PM

My collection is about to get a hell of a lot better. I have all their cds and a good number of bootlegs and I'm awaiting my next purchase from EBAY to come in the mail. What it is is a bootleg box set with 13 live cds, each one from a different tour spanning their entire career together, and 20 dvd's spanning their solo careers. I can't wait.

n00bguitarist 01-07-2006 05:54 PM

IMO, Animals and Atom Heart Mother are two of their most underrated albums.

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 06:02 PM

I've never been a big fan of AHM but I think that it has some very underrated moments on the album, like the song If and many points in some of the jams. I think the only thing that keeps Animals more underrated than it should be is the long songs, its such a shame people won't listen to amazing music just because of its length.

David_Gilmour 01-07-2006 06:20 PM
scottish guy. The guy is scottish.
urrrrm.....if someone is Scottish then they are British as well.

Britain = England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland

standard 01-07-2006 06:20 PM

GOT MY ACCOUNT BACK! Sorry.

I need to get all the Floyd's on vinyl.. they a record player. Heh.

David_Gilmour 01-07-2006 06:21 PM
IMO, Animals and Atom Heart Mother are two of their most underrated albums.
Within the general public, i believe that animals is very underrated. If you are a fan then it tends to be pretty well known as one of their best. (Which it is)

standard 01-07-2006 06:25 PM

Animals is underrated, and is EASILY some of their best work. Gilmour freakin' shines on that album.. As does Waters' voice and lyrics.

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 06:58 PM
Animals is underrated, and is EASILY some of their best work. Gilmour freakin' shines on that album.. As does Waters' voice and lyrics.
Yeah I always felt that album was Water's best vocal preformance.

Yield 01-07-2006 07:25 PM

It's true that to the general public, Animals is very underrated. To the fans, it's known as one of the best. But i think that to the fans, even Atom Heart Mother is underrated. I think that most of their early albums are underrated and unknown to some of the fans.

pigonthewing82 01-07-2006 07:30 PM

Its hard to call their early albums underrated or overrated because they are just different. I love them but someone said very well earlier that early Floyd and latter Floyd are almost like two different bands. By the time Dark Side of the Moon came around the band was playing very different tunes.
