Listen to their early stuff, all of it is either hardcore-punk or post-hardcore.

i undertand they changed their music style,but gradually,and the ticket prices may be nitro records doing,remember they put out the retrospect cd without the band knowing,and sum video are from older stuff but believe or not many ppl who watch MTV dont know them,i respecr ue opionion but i think they changed more then soldout,

no, because who they are is not a matter of opinion, especially your uneducated opinion. check out the album "very proud of ya." i'd say that's the best starter album, although "answer that and stay fashionable" works well too. go to the YSI thread or something, or look around online, or *gasp* go buy it.

That's like me. When I was starting to get into punk, it was from my step-bro who hates AFI. And I hated hardcore. It was a year after Sing the Sorrow that I heard The Art of Drowning. Then by going backwards I got used to hardcore. I think listening to TAOD, BISTS, and SYMAOYE is the only reason I like hardcore now.

I think the Art Of Drowning is my favorite AFI album.

According to afiseries.com Davey says that the album should be out around early 2006. No one's sure if that's a hint at release date or it's a safe margin for error.

I'm going to go with release date, just because those bastards always fail to meet the deadlines. Or so that's the case in recent times.

I'm hoping they go back to the "old" AFI sound on the new record. I really didn't care for Sing the Sorrow at all. Except for Dancing Through Sunday, that song is pretty awesome.

AFI are hit or miss with me.

There's a Myspace profile that has some B-sides to Sing The Sorrow, and they're really good. They have like old school AFI tempos with the little goth thing they got going on now, and it's a good compromise.

B-sides? Do you mean Synesthesia and Now the World? They're not B-sides really. They were the bonus tracks on the UK version of Sing the Sorrow, though Now the World was also on the Japanese one. The demo of Synesthesia is on a few of the singles too. Now the World is a re-recording of the one that was on the 336 10" vinyl (aka the Now the World Picture Disk). The only difference is what Davey shouts in the chorus. In the original he said "I wanted this excorciation. I thrive on this self-mutilation" and in the new recording he says "I wanted to excorciate. I remain and self-mutilate."

When was Sing the Sorrow originally supposed to be released? They're already past the original "guesstimate" for the release--this past spring.

They will never go back to the old sound. They've matured and are beyond that stage besides having much better musical skills than the old stuff required. The old stuff was a result of bored kids not knowing how to play attempting it anyway. The new stuff involves actual skill. They never "re-create" an album because that would be boring, and it would be moving backward instead of foreward.

There's supposed to be more electronic layering. They also said something about "cold pop" which generally is interpreted as "Cure pop". Davey and Jade love the Cure and are the principal songwriters, so it makes sense that they'd sort of emulate what they like to hear. It won't be industrial though. I think Blaqk Audio is Davey and Jade's way of keeping their industrial-love from taking over AFI.

I got the Give 'Em The Boot DVD a few days ago, and just got around to watching it. Up until the end, I was slightly disappointed. I mean, it was great seeing a lot of bands I like (Rancid, Tiger Army, LFATB, Nerve Agents, etc.), but Davey kept making cameos all over the place. And the no AFI live footage was disappointing me. But at the end, Davey sang on an acoustic song with Tim Armstrong. And on Rancid's last song they played live, Davey did the lead vocals for all of it.

So I was satisfied.

What song did he do vocals on?

Recently, I've been getting back into AFI. I love them.

Not positive, but I think the song is called "Radio". I know the song, just not good with titles. :p

And I just found out that the acoustic was "Knowledge" by Op Ivy. I'm not really into them, so I didn't know. Just knew I heard it before.

That Dag Nasty cover was great. Tim and Davey's acoustic version would be intresting.

The description of that DVD was completely misleading in some cases. The Iggy Pop part was really lame (why the hell is Brett trying to play drumbeats on his knees?)most of it was good though.
