I don't mind Audioslave. I throw the cd on once in a while, but ofcourse the only reason i got into them was because of my RATM roots =}

Morello's tone (the big, phat sound he +timmy, get, everyone know what i'm talking about) goes well with the Cornello's voice. Besides, Cornello's a great singer hands down, so i usually don't care much for the lyrics and listen to that relation. Guitar and Voice.

But yeah, definetely like 'em...

But back to RATM, gotta love Evil Empire...so many good tracks on there that people just don't seem to give a chance. Down Rodeo, Boomerang, People of the Sun, Bulls, Without a Face, gah...almost the whole thing.

It's guessing thats its not liked because its overshadowed by other RATM classics, but that might just be me.

TheMachineRagesOn 04-15-2005 02:07 AM

No your right, evil empire is the most underrated album by far, i love it, its a more no nonsense, harder album (imo) and it annoys me that there are nearly no evil empire tracks on their dvd's.(besides bulls and p.o.t.s)

ConnectiveTissue 04-15-2005 02:12 AM

Thanks for showing me their first show! Much appreciated!
I agree with TheMachineRagesOn, it is underrated. I can't pick my favourite album however.

Sept Vietnow on the Self Titled DVD....

Werny 04-15-2005 09:26 AM

That's something that doesn't make me wanna get the DVDs. I'd die to see Revolver live.

DuncMaster 04-15-2005 09:30 AM

Is this download a full performance? ...If so - Amazin!

Cheers Werny!

I like Evil Empire but i don't think that it's as good as the others, Battle of LA often comes in for a lot of stick but i actually think it was their best, after a few listens.

DuncMaster 04-15-2005 09:46 AM

S/T>BOLA>EE/Renegades

Thats my order neway, but i think all the albums have their strong points.

love them all, but S/T is best, How often do u see an album with no bad songs? or in this case no "ok" songs...there all great tracks :thumb:

Six Foot Revolver 04-15-2005 09:55 AM

I'd have to agree with you that S/T has consistent brilliance from start to finish (not one un-brilliant track) which would put it above the rest, except that my favorites are Calm Like a Bomb, Testify, War Within A Breath and Sleep Now in The Fire, which is why it's my favorite.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-16-2005 12:17 AM
I like Audioslave...I thought their debut album was good up until halfway through when the songs just went downhill, and really brought down the standard of the album, but I think that their new album could be really good, so long as they cut out the excess sub-standard songs which they had on their last album. I wasn't all that impressed with the new song which I heard the other day though. To me it sounded like some of the blandest moment on the debut album.
Be Yourself is a very average track that sounds like it belongs in some kind of Disney movie. I liked the solo though. :D

Why is Evil Empire so far back in your list of RATM albums? I always thought that EE was incredible.

As far as I know, yes.

I haven't even downloaded it. I always get disconnected halfway through downloading the first song. **** dial-up!

Permanent Solution 04-16-2005 03:05 AM

I think Renegades is easily my least favorite and s/t is of course the best, the other two are pretty comparable imo.

It's still incredible, it's just that the others are better. Imo anyway.
Self-titled album is definitely the most powerful, then I'd put them in order thus:
S/T>Battle Of LA>Renegades>Evil Empire

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-30-2005 05:59 PM

Bump'd to talk about the competition.

Which song shall we do if it goes through?

I can currently play Killing in the Name of, Born of a Broken Man, Bombtrack, Sleep Now in the Fire, and a couple others. I'd be willing to learn most anything if you guys don't want to do any of those, minus 3 or so tracks off of the S/T due to technical difficulties.

Static 05-30-2005 06:10 PM

bulls on parade. i love playing that song sooooo much. i can play any, but i like snitf and bop right now for playing. or maybe testify

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-30-2005 06:15 PM

I'd prefer to do Killing in the Name. The effects are easy enough to pull off (just whammy) and it's fun to play. SNitF is harder because the solo is basically a one off solo. I could just tab it out instead of using feedback. Testify is also hard due to the extensive amount of effects and such, mainly in the verse and solo.

my vote goes for KitN, as of now. I could do BoP, but that would take some toying with for the solo. I'd have to try and work out the pickscratching on the solo. :p

Endless Obsession 05-30-2005 06:18 PM

Bombtrack?

Darkness 05-30-2005 06:30 PM

I can do bombtrack note for note. I could do bulls, but I'd have to get my friends wah. I can do that solo. I can also play settle for nothing (solo to) but nobody seems to like that song much.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-30-2005 06:43 PM

I like Settle for Nothing, but it's mainly feedback, so it's not too exciting to play.

How about this- DoG, you can do the guitar for Bulls on Parade, and I'll do Killing in the Name.

However, before we get ahead of our selves, we need a Zack. Any ideas?

Duncster 05-30-2005 06:45 PM

Is their going to be a rage cover song thing? If there is I would play bass although I'm already doing Zeppelin. If noone else wanted to I would.

Darkness 05-30-2005 06:50 PM

Yeah vocals could be a problem... any politicaly charged mexican rappers?

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-30-2005 06:55 PM
Yeah vocals could be a problem... any politicaly charged mexican rappers?
You would think I could find someone, being that I am from a town where the population is 3/4 hispanic, but I don't know any.

Static 05-30-2005 06:56 PM

Me- drums on kitno and bop
jake-guitar on kitno
greed-guitar on bop
dunc-bass on kitno and bop

we need teh mexicanos

Darkness 05-30-2005 07:13 PM

I just nailed the bulls solo. I'm so happy.

Problem = My friends wah is acutually a bass wah, I'm ganna get it and try it out tomorrow, but it if it sounds really gay then maybe I'll record the parts of bulls that don't have then someone else could do that one part? Or whatever works.

Static 05-30-2005 07:24 PM

ill do the wah part, as in the

Darkness 05-30-2005 07:43 PM

Alright thanks. Be sure to palm mute those muted strings. :D Lay down the drums first, then I'll do the guitar once I have the drums to play with. Then the bassist will the bass.

As for vocalist, there is someone I can ask who could do an extremely good job of it, but whether or not he'll agree to do it is a different story. But I'll ask.

Static 05-30-2005 07:53 PM

is he on MX? cuz it would kinda defeat the purpose..

Duncster 05-30-2005 07:59 PM

I cover both those songs with my drummer :D

Darkness 05-30-2005 08:12 PM

Hes not on mx, but I just asked him and he said he'd do it. But he says hes ganna join mx anyway.

Hot Darn! 05-30-2005 08:17 PM

RATM are the reason I got into rock and metal.
S/T is without a doubt my favorite, followed by Battle of LA and then Evil Empire.
Tom Morrello is a somewhat underrated guitar player, and Zack deserves more credit for his lyrics.

"It's set up like a deck of cards
They're sending us to early graves
For all the diamonds
They'll use a pair of clubs to beat the spades"

From Freedom has to be my favorite lyrics from him. Ever try to decode the message?
I understand it to mean that the diamonds = rich people
Clubs= police who beat the poor/working class people(spades, also means shovels) at the rich's commands

Darkness 05-30-2005 08:22 PM

Zacks best lyrics are on Evil Empire IMO.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-30-2005 09:01 PM

I'd say that my personal favorite RATM lyrics are from Ashes in the Fall. That song is just so powerful. The double octave whammy and the lyrics just create such a forboding atmosphere. It's one of my favorite RATM songs, methinks.

You know I actually think that...
Rage Against The Machine > Evil Empire > The Battle Of LA
Freedom is the best song especially "Anger is a gift!"

Some stupid idiots in the SOAD thread think Daron Malakian is beter than Tom Morello.

they're pretty pissed @ me now.

Dr. Jake Destructo 05-30-2005 09:49 PM

I know one can have his own opinion, but that poor soul must be on more drugs than Daron himself. :p

Darons a joke compared to Tom IMO. Alot less creative, rarly solos, uses drop C# tuning, riffs aren't as good etc. Toms just an all around better player. Daron doesn't suck though.

Darkness 05-30-2005 10:01 PM

I just got Toms amp EQ settings, and I'm ganna set it up to get a good Tom tone tomorrow.

When can we expect to see the drums?
