I only get about 2 good concerts a year, down here in Tennessee.

keep on phishin' 03-27-2005 05:52 PM

Just ordered a bunch of albums from Amazon:

Jazz Is Dead - Great Sky River
Project Z - Project Z
Phil Lesh and Friends - There and Back Again
Aquarium Rescue Unit - Mirrors of Embarassment
Moe. - Tin Cans and Tire
Medeski Martin and Wood - Friday Afternoon In the Universe
Eric Johnson - Ah Via Musicom

Pretty good figuring the total was only $53. I'm especially excited about hearing those Jimmy Herring albums. :)

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-27-2005 07:07 PM

Aquarium Rescue Unit is a hot band. Enjoy that. The whole list looks pretty good to me.

Yeah NY has a nice music scene...if any of you ever want tapes from NYC shows just holler at me.

keep on phishin' 03-27-2005 08:09 PM

What NYC shows do you have tapes of?

I'm glad you listened to some of my suggestions.

I have the MMW album, that's my favorite stuff by them...Badmoon highly reccomends that Phil one so I'm sure that's really good.

I'm so stoked right now for summer, I found out Lynyrd Skynyrd and Allman Bros. were touring together, I now found out I'm going to two of their shows, one in RI and one in CT...and then between those dates I'm going to see Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers with the Black Crowes which should be unbelievably good. And all that is after Bonnaroo.
Connecticut has been surprising the hell out of me lately, so many great artists are coming here either before or after they all play at New York since its only an hour drive away.

So this Jimmy Herring guy is good, aye? Any reccomendations of a couple songs I can d/l?

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-27-2005 08:41 PM

Any shows from the NY area are fairly accesable to me...One of my good friends is a taper, and goes to NYU, so besides school, live music is his life. He makes it to all the hot shows pretty much. I know for a fact he's got some nice Benevento Russo Duo, MMW, and the whole Allman Bros. Run at the Beacon from this year.

Badmoon 03-27-2005 08:41 PM

If Jerry Garcia hadn't been my favorite guitarist, it would be Jimmy Herring. He is just insane; He's got the technical ability of virtuoso but is a Rock guitarist who plays around with Fusion a lot.

Jazz is Dead - Eyes of the World

^Download if you can. Jimmy's skill is displayed great in that cover.

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-27-2005 08:45 PM

Any of you guys like Keller Williams? He's just freakin' awesome. Not for everyone, but awesome. Check him out. He's also a trip to catch live.

Badmoon 03-27-2005 08:47 PM

Keller Williams completely ripped off Michael Hedges's guitar style. I guess you could just say he was influenced by Hedges, but it still sets him back a bit in my book.

keep on phishin' 03-27-2005 08:49 PM

Out of the one album I have (Blue Light Rain) my favorites on there would definitely be "Crazy Fingers" and "Dark Star".

I could be going to that too, but I'm going to fuckin' Florida that day :( Steve Miller and the upcoming Victor Wooten show could make up for it, though.

Badmoon 03-28-2005 08:56 AM

^You don't deserve that trip to Florida

Ungrateful bastard

Jam2Me 03-28-2005 10:32 AM

I'm going to Disney in mid June :( I don't like Florida past April or before September.

I downloaded "Eyes of the World" really good stuff.

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-28-2005 10:35 AM

I'd take Miller and Wooten over Petty and the Black Crowes any day of the week. But it stinks that you had the opportunity to go to the other ones as well. :upset:

Yea, if I had to choose I'd definitely take Miller and Wooten. I'd still like to see the Crowes.

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-28-2005 12:39 PM

Are they Mr. Crowe's Garden now?

Weird, indeed. On the site where I saw the date it said The Black Crowes.

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-28-2005 01:50 PM

I wonder what in the hell they're doin?

Jam2Me 03-28-2005 03:04 PM

Holy f*cking ****, Mr Crowes Garden came to Toads Place and I said to myself, I wonder who they are, searched them and there was no info.....So I pretty much missed the Black Crowes.

That sucks man, I feel for you.

6Stringer 03-28-2005 03:35 PM

I just bought quite possibly the greatest Grateful Dead CD ever. I bought the Closing of Winterland December 31, 1978 4 CDs of non-stop Grateful Dead action.

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-28-2005 03:59 PM

Yeah man, that's a ****in bummer!

Where in TN? Cause where I'm at I get some pretty good ones.

johnbro23 03-28-2005 04:18 PM

Would DMB be considered a "jam band"?

keep on phishin' 03-28-2005 04:22 PM

Franklin, a little south of Nashville

You?

The DVD is insane as well, it has played on PBS occasionally
Would DMB be considered a "jam band"?
Yeah we mostly consider them a jam band.

moghes69 03-28-2005 05:41 PM

i'm in a jam band, i was wondering if you guys could give us a listen and give some pointers, what you like, don't like etc... http://www.purevolume.com/madagom there are a bunch of messups and stuff but that was mostly because it was recorded at our first concert ever.

JPage54 03-28-2005 05:50 PM

Dude, that was awesome. Not quite as long as most jam songs should be but that was rockin just the same. Major props to the organ solo. :thumb: Keep up the goodwork theres alot of ****ty bands on purevolume.

Are those original TubeScreamers or are they reissue? Also how did the guitarist get that rad Orange head?

JPage54 03-28-2005 05:59 PM

Yeah, you guys need to get some mics, and practice...A Lot.

i don't know about the guitarists equipment, he has so many pedals that i didn't even bother asking about any of them, and i don't know about the head. we were all really nervous so we rushed a bunch of our songs, and didn't go into spontaneous jams a lot because the crowd was all of the punk/emo/######## kids and we didn't really know how the crowd would react to our style.

moghes69 03-28-2005 06:31 PM

and plus, the recordings suck because they are the audio tracks ripped from a video we took of our show

JPage54 03-28-2005 08:01 PM

Oh I see. Not such a good idea. Are you the drummer then?

6Stringer 03-28-2005 10:36 PM
Franklin, a little south of Nashville

You?
Oh, Knoxville.

no, im the bassist

jpj 03-29-2005 08:30 PM

Bah! On Skynyrd's website it says more LS/ABB dates will be announced. I'm really anxious to see if they're coming here, the suspense is killing me! :(

SplitOpenAndMelt 03-29-2005 10:00 PM

I'd be surprised if they didn't hit Tennessee. Btw Moghes, nice work, but I think it's time to move up to a fiver hmm? :thumb:

I'm a bassist too.
